  1. just thinking about all the wonderful ordinary working class people in Britain, from all walks of life who without a second thought are giving and giving what they have and any spare cash to help us through this terrible crisis, myself and majority of people can not praise the front line staff and essential workers enough, but everyday we see and hear about all the footballers, popstars ,actors etc who are giving and helping us out and at the end of all this will receive awards in the queens honours list, with all the millions and billions there worth they could all donate a little bit of th
  2. im afraid this is going to become common not just with working dogs, but with the current situation were all in,were going to see a lot more dog owners abandoning their dogs, soon lots of pet owners wont have the money for dog food, vet fees and with the long time future uncertain, the dogs homes will be inundated causing another crisis the majority of the genuine working dog men with carry on regardless but theres always the minority shortage of rabbits and red tape regulations startin to take its toll.hope you and your families all keep safe and get through this bad time.

  4. often used to find if the land was getting lamped regulary the remaining rabbits would be sticky and reluctant to bolt, and if ferreting on stormy and windy days ferrets had a job to get rabbits to bolt.
  5. ive had a few dogs direct from dave plats over the years, and still got a couple of his generation stuff now, always found the man to be honest about the pups he is selling now, and let me say to some of the so called experts on this site, about his dogs, have you ever kept them long enough, given them time enough to mature, before running the arse out of them at every quarry going to reall pass comment and judgement on them, the deerhound xsare not everbodys cup of tea, but most folk cant wait nearly 2yrs to start working the I knew it wouldn't be long before plats , replaced hancocks way of b
  6. that's some price for hares, cant give them away round my area, what sort of prices are they charging for rabbits and pheasants, think the last price I heard on rabbits was about the £8 mark.
  7. getting back to the deerhound topic, does trevor from cookland deerhounds, still breed any pups, deerhound xs,or pure bred stuff, didn't he acquire most of bill dohertys doxhope stock, never had the pleasure of owning or seeing any of bills pure deerhounds work, but by what he wrote in his excellent book, and repots of the prowness of his stock, he was the man for breeding genuine working strains of working deerhounds, such a shame that he could not carry on with his passion for the breed, even now if I could find dogs of genuine doxhope and ardkinglass strain of deerhound,i would travel the len
  8. no not the same litter, the ad was taken off donedeal a few weeks ago, these pups look to be well reared and strong should make good in the right hands and given time to mature properly, not badly priced, in my opinion worth taking a chance on.
  9. take note lads, bakerboy and pirate have both had close calls with these chargers, the lamps should all be recalled by clulite and relaced or refunded, this is going to end in tears,if this issue is still ongoing, not worth the risk, but that's just my opinion/
  10. would you still chance the plr500, now that clulite has changed the chargers, after what you experienced, I would still be dubious about charging one round my property, thank god you and yours escaped serious injury, clulite would have had a lot of explaining to do,a serious safety issue.
  11. wasn't there a thread on here just recently from a lad who said when he was recharging his plr500, it burst into flames, think it was in his house, put me off straight away after reading this, sound cheap and dodgy to me,wouldnt take a chance on one.
  12. didn't know this man personally, but from comments on here sounded like a genuine and honest guy in the lurcher world, men like him getting rarer as the years go by, perhaps some of you boys that knew stick well, could write a fitting and appropriate tribute in respect to him, rip stick and sincere condolences to his family.
  13. Geoff had some outstanding sprinters in his days, but tay was the one that he ran in the field fare challenge coursing competion staged in the late 80s if memory serves me right, tremendous little dog with plenty of guts and courage, ran him against ginger French and other top dog men of the day, still got the old vhs knocking around some where ,must get it put on dvd someday, god bless Geoff rest easy
  14. alright foxpack 2, reckon you got a good bargain there, the print of the chase in the snow by w.hobson, was alimited edition of a 1,000 issued, the one I have is 54, might be worth something in years to come, got a few of mick cawstons prints, picked up at various game fairs over the years,a very talented man whose works are much sought after by many people, god rest his soul, so much work left undone.
  15. bought this same picture, when it was first issued, cant recall how much it was new, but think I bought it through an ad in the country mans weekly, hangs on my living room wall, along side another cracking print by w.hobson called a chase in the snow,of a solid looking lurcher coursing a hare in the snow, but its possible I got these prints through the ed\rd magazine, both are framed ,did you pay much for the print at the boot sale. hopefully in years to come they might be worth something.
  16. you have associates and you have true friends, some of them lifelong mates, who will be there for you through thick and thin, ican count my true ,friends on one hand, this time last year I was going through a rough time with a bout of cancer, those true friends and their families were there for me and my family, then and now,the help and support of these lads was priceless, something I will be eternally grateful to them for.
  17. there was a nice litter advertised on done deal, a couple of weeks ago they were three quarter bred ,but were a good strong type, was sorely temted, but as they say its a long way to Tipperary, and a bit too far for me to travel, seem to be more in the south than the north all the best and good luck in your search.
  18. my eldest grandson made the base camp last week, only 21, and raised nearly 3 grand for cancer research, very proud of him, and areal achievement for a lad of his age.
  19. hope all goes well for you with the mating, good strong healhy looking animals, good jackets and a handy sizefor al round mooching,if I were a bit closer and had a few more rabbits to go for would have certainly considered a pup from this mating.atb
  20. every time these past few weeks while out on evening stroll with the lurchers, been picking quite afew rabbits young and old absolutely riddled with mxy virus, strange thing is a lot of places held hardly any rabbits all winter, really sad to see them horrible vile disease, caught a doe early this morning full of young full of it, whats it like in other parts of the country,at this rate I will be having another crap season come September, hows the vhd fairing another scourge to our sport.
  21. any body able to put the picture of Aubrey fryer and his Norfolk lurcher, thats in david hancocks book Lambourn, some good pictures of the lurchers that were about in those days in that book.
  22. yes you are spot on in what you say tommo, mick douglas the fenman must be a damn good age if he is still about, was areal character in the 80s used to walk the land barefooted and was a very well educated man ,who escaped the rat raceto live on the fens with his family and lurchers, phil Lloyd did a story on him and the dogs many years ago in the old shooting news, don't think phil was too impressed by him at the time.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, earlier this year, hit me like a bomb shell, when surgeon told me I had it in 3 places in the prostate, had to have robotic surgery to remove the whole thing after psa test, mri scan and biopsy showed it was contained in the prostate, luckily they said it had not spread and advised the op over radiotherapy, the op is a bit brutal and takes about 4 nours to perform, seem to be progressing well now, but its a slow job mending up, still have to have psa test every 3 months. take my advice lads and get checked regular, loads of guys in the hospital with this probl
