  1. try dave platt, or trevor cook,i am sure there will be lads on this site who can point you in the right direction, hope you get lucky.
  2. stay well clear of cats specially ferals mate, not only can they damage a dogs eyes badly, the bite they give can carry some bad bacterias, my mates dog died after being bitten by a feral on a rubbish tip,got a deerhound x thats well capable of killing wild ferals, but i tend to steer clear as much as possible.
  3. havent had any ticks on the ferrets for a while, but the dogs got to be checked out after every trip of late always find afew and they get treated regullary, last year was a bad year for them,
  4. never heard of that one,fed brown bread to lots of dogs over the years, and never had any problems.
  5. Just been reading some old stuff on this cross, just wondering is there or has anyone on the site ever worked or seen one working, read that aguy called steve barton ran 2 inthe lurcher trials a few years ago,the dogs were called rooney and musket, and were born by artificial insemination, like the labrador x why has this cross fellout of favour, iwould think it would be handy if bred the right way, another guy called battams used them with sucess i believe.
  6. i packed up lamping a couple of weeks ago,my patch hit hard by mxy, hoping the odd ones willget a chance to breed through the summer, rolll on september again.
  7. just watched it,tears tripping me up with laughter, topman game for a laugh.
  8. just a few weeks ago, there was a thread on here about micro and grey hound ferrets, should be easy enough to get micros but wouldnt hold out much chance for greyhound ferrets, pretty rare these days, threads well worth a read.atb in your search.
  9. a good mate of mine had 2 labradorx greyhounds in the late sixties, these dogs were bred out of good old fashioned working labs to a retired track greyhound, they both stood about 23tts,and were long and lean, both werent much to look at, but boy could they hunt, they excelled at lamping and had plenty of staminia and good mouths,a bit slow for hares, but would carry and work with gun like good uns, also spot on at marking and ferreting, both dog and bitch were from same litter, never seen or ownedany of this cross since, and these dogs had to work to feed them selves and us ,times were hard andbeliev
  10. got nothing out of any of these stud dogs samba, but dark raven looks like my stamp of dog.
  11. any body on this site used dark raven; or any other of dave sleights stud dogs on their bitches, any pics of any of the pups, and how are any of them shaping up,heard that top dollar is throwing some good stuff,be intresting to hear your comments lads.

    Rabbit Flu

just been reading an article in one of my old ed/rd magazines where a young bloke died of this disease after catching an infected rabbit, the article stated that he caught it through a cut in his finger, much like weils disease, it stated it is carried by dogs, cats, and foxes through their bites,is this a rare case,or has any body on here ever had or heard of thisdisease over the years.
  14. definetly seperate them, whilst breeding season is on,it is not unknown for one to kill the other by biting and breaking its neck, are they litter brothers.
  15. up and ready to go this morning, but blowing a gale, bitterly cold and light drizzle, not amorning for standing round, waiting for bolts, must be getting old, might try later in day, just to give ferrets and dogs a run, weather has been naff for weeks, hardly done anything.
  16. fussy eater, looks to be in top condition for a 5month pup, going to be a belter by the look of him, heisa credit to you mate.
  17. 357 for the mk1collars, i find the renata watch batteries as good as any, and 393 for micro 15ft collars.
  18. any of you guys still using muzzles on your ferrets, especiallybig hobs to prevent them killing underground, iused tobut the ferrets nowadays dont seem to stick the same, yearsago i used to ring them with silver watch rings, use the brass bar muzzles, the spring muzzles that went behind the killing teeth, ive also seen the old boys snapping the end of the killing fangs to stop the ferret from holding rabbits underground, still see the leather muzzles for sale, but wouldnt bother using them these days probably all out lawed by now.
  19. out for a walk this morning, with the dogs.and noticedthat quite a few hares were starting to box, and follow the females trail,is it just me or is this early or not,i know the seasons are changing but this is the earliest i have seen this, any of you lads noticed it in your areas.
  20. glad a lot of you guys go along with me about good sized hobs being betterto work and dig to in big setts and thick hedges, dont get me wrong i am not knocking micro ferrets or the lads who use them, but the ground and conditions i work my ferrets in,they wouldnt stand a chance against some of the hard bucks that they would be up against, and yes i have seen these micro ferrets work, and cant honestly see the point in them, just another money maker and show pieces, but each to your own.
  21. you are totally right what you say bunny tickler,i well remember the greyhound ferrets you mention being long, lean and keen, why they fell out of favour idont know,i think you would be hard pressed to find good old working strains of them now.abbot brothers of norfolk used to advertise in exchange and mart and had excellent stock, real metal in them, wish they were still about today, like you said they used to send ferrets to every corner of britain 2 pound each, good days.
  22. rain has finally stopped here, good windy night, still agood lump of a moon,.but definetly going out tonight, bunnies should be lying good and tight, good luck to all who are venturing out tonight.
  23. interesting to see and hear about all the rabbitsthat are getting caught by lads on this site, but a question how much are butchers and game dealers paying for good hauls of rabbits these days,i havent sold good lamped rabbits for about 10 years and was getting 1;50 arabbit skinned, they always wanted them but didnt want to pay much is it still the same in most areas.
  24. always preffered good sized hobs to jills, especially working good big setts and thick hedgerows,i always found that when they stuck on a rabbit, they stayed firm until dug to,not like some of the white mice that are being bred these days, just my preference.
  25. dodger go and get that pup back, and give it the chance it deserves, if it was me i wouldnt hesitate, no need for neglect really gets my back up.
