its across i would like to try obviously using the right type of working parents, there has been acouple of litters advertised on here over the years, there was a lad from cheshire on here afew weeks ago with alitter for sale,i would think they would make an intresting cross, another lad hadsome in ireland a few years ago.
-
he's not planning to breed any 1/2 x's but i think i'll try a 9th generation across a grey.so there basically 3/4 grey 1/4 deer.there smaller a little with hopefully more take off speed.£300 all pups.he's got a litter of above now but i'm waiting till spring. ginger beard yousay davecharges 300 a pup,are they jabbed andchipped for that price as well
-
sorry mate, my mistake, definetly an age thing lol.
-
would like to see some updated pictures of her,and abit of an update on her progress, once again atb with her, lovely looking animal.
-
gingerbeard, you say that dave platt breeds good half cross deerhounds,so is that what your going for in spring time, does he charge 300pound for dogs and bitches, and does he have along waiting list for pups,do you know if dave has got any litters on the ground now,or will he have anyready before spring.
-
that black dog is in top nick, lovely looking animal, how old and whats its breeding, looks nice ground to have a gallop on atb.
-
if you dont mind me asking, what breeding and at what age did you start the dog you got rid off because he was yapping when behind prey, yappers usually begin when there run too young,or overmatched on what they get on,but saying this your new pup looks a nice type atb.
-
so am i right in thinking that any paperwork you have relating to the dog you havein your possesion, would be checked if you boarded a ferry from the north to england,or does it just apply to animal transporters.
-
been thinking about getting a pup from southern ireland, could be going over shortly, from what ive read on this forum, seems that you need a passport and other documents to transport dogs from south to north, how do you go about sorting this out and whats the procedure,if i used my own transport could i not just buy a pup from a breeder, pop in the motor in a cage and drive into the north, hoping some of the irish boys on here can advise me all the best.
-
run the dog hard on hard ground, learn the hard way, forget till the the ground softens up.
-
tried it once, never again, managed to train them to a certain degree, but never got a true bonding with them, they both hunted as pack animals instead of solely for me,daytime they were a nightmare to work together, but lamping at night one at a time completely different dogs, they were both bitches and were bedlingtonx whippets with cloth ears.lol
-
sorry lads but a ferrets a ferret to me,as long as there bred worker to worker,do the job there bred to do,dont cost silly money to buy thats all ive needed all the years of keepingand breeding them, like to see the different types the show crowd keep but dont give a damn about colours or size, like most things the working ferret is losing its true identity to the show breeders and the prices they are charging are a joke, changing times but thats how its going these days.
-
sounds like it was a great show, from what all you lads are saying, definetly will try and make the effort to attend next year, though it will be afair bit of travelling for me to get there, worked with alot of the irish boys north and south, and always been good craic,is there camping on site or is thereeasy available accomadation in the area, would love to see any photos of the terrier or lurcher classes, atb and good luck to you all.
-
yes this severe heat is causing over heating problem with my dogs and ferrets, got the water bowls and drinker bottles full up with iced water and lumps of rock sulphur, the missus managed to pick up a couple of cooling fans at charity shop, and we set them blowing into kennel.and ferret hutches, certainly helped the animals a lot.
-
got to agree with you foxdropper, all the terriers ive had over the years would always find a good few when out for a stroll, especially thi time of year, got a lurcher here now that will retrieve theml live to hand, terriers always tried to kill them and there mouths would be bleeding like pigs.
-
this topic has been discussed on here before, and i put my pennies worth in,do a search, been alot of interesting answers back on it,in the area i live in there has always been superstion relating to black rabbits, mostly by the older hunters, lots of the boys would always call them the parson or the priest.and the mention of them to fishing boat skippers was taboo,an old uncle of mine who hunted rabbits into his eighties, would turn heel and head for home if the dogs caught one,or the ferrets bolted one, always saying bad hunting day would follow, may be just coincidence but usually something would

Wales Welsh Game Fair What Day Is The Lurcher Show
grompz replied to D Lloyd's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
when you say the judging was very heavy handed,do you mean that the dogs you seen judged were just rushed over due to the adverse weather, or do you think the judging standards were poor, personally i have never heard of the lurcher judges tim and phil fawcett from cumbria, what sort of lurchers do theyhunt or have hunted over the years, and what their claim to fame, majority of lads that have judged at the welsh have been well known in the hunting circles. -
billys looking well for a10 year old dog, hope he had a nice day, looks like hes got a good owner, atb.
-

The book i mention waspublished by argent publications,as regards alans write up there is no mention of the author who wrote it,there is a crackingpicture of alan with 2 pure coursing deerhounds, one of which is cloud, her kennel name being sorisdale macdill, probablybe hard to get a copy these days, but worth a try.atb
-
the deerhoundThere is a photo of a deerhound named Cloud in one of Frank Sheardowns books. She was cracking stamp of a bitch, is that the one that belonged to Alan do you the deerhound cloud that alan had, was out of kenneth cassells breeding, there was a good write up on alan and cloud in the 1991 running dog year book,it was called a man for all seasons, dont know if youve seen it,but a nice little write up,not sure if bitch in sheardowns book is the same cloud.
-
some of you older boys might recall alan wilkinson from county durham, who used to breed pure deerhounds, and deerhoundxgreys, alan used to be the slipper for thedeerhound coursing club, pretty sure there was doxhope in his dogs.but could be wrong,he bred some good stuff for afew years, dont hear any thing of him these days, but hope he is prospering and well, like us all he will be that little bit older. a genuine guy.

mxy the curse of the hunter since the1950s, already started again in areas round me,it will always rear it sad sight on the land some where, pity its just the rabbits that are affected by it,the bstards never got a disease out yet to see the rats off, at least it keeps are terriers and lurchers in work, cruel and evil disease on rabbits.
