  1. cheers lads for all your comments on ginger, good and bad in all of us,this is what we still need in the lurcher game is characters like ginger, tom riley, platty, all lads that have seen it and done it and are not just key board hunters, you cant please every body, all the best grompz.
  2. merry xmas all, just watched an old video the field fare challenge, when ginger and his dog mink, were running against some top dogs in the country,i remember ginger also owned luke another good dog, iknow this was a few years ago and ginger fell on bad times and bad luck, but just curious to know does he still keep a dog or two, and is he still in the land of the living, he was a top dog man in his day.
  3. get a few woolen blankets from charity shops,my dogs love them, wrap them selfs up in them, soon as there done with, dump them, and buy some more cheap as chips.
  4. started a topic on this cross only ashort while ago,got agood response from the lads on this site,i believe jason powell from wales bred some from good dogs some years back, dont know if he still does, its a breed i would like to try at rabbiting,

only just started a thread on this myself, what your saying is right, farmers are dropping mxy rabbits on there land, and moving them from one area to the other, its true have been asked in the past for mxys, and i bet you can tell what my thoughts were, the bstards who invented this crap should have got a dose themselves, blind, deaf, andstarving to death for weeks on end
  6. thanks for that buddy, maybe some of you guys dont remember the type of mxy ,i am talking about, you may have only seen the recently mild strain where the rabbits can get over it,this is the one ,where the rabbits resemble a sloppy cow pat,the rabbits are oosing puss crap from every part of their body, there are that bad the dogs dont even want to mouth them, the last time i seen rabbits like this, was in the late sixties, but its back with a vengance, but as always the humble bunny will survive ,despite all diseases, predators and man,but it will take its toll heavelly as does rhd another man ma
  7. just got back from run with dogs, been running this land on the lamp for the past few weeks, caught a good few clean rabbits, picked 2 mxys up this morning riddled with it,is it still rife in other parts of the country, and do you boys think it is being spread deliberately seems a much stronger strain than normal .
  8. how much would you pay for a good heat lamp, what make is best, and is there any good sites selling them, thinking more for the dogs when recovering, cheers lads
  9. give it another go tommorow but be prepared for a few lay ups,the rabbits you prevously bolted will be wised up to the ferrets, and the welcoming party out side atb.
  10. lots of the land round me has got fencing wired up to the the mains, gives the dogs afair wallop when it hits them, take of like scalded cats, ran into one myself out lamping didnt half make the balls tingle so be careful lads.
  11. hi all, any body on this site using these type of dogs, and how do they fair day and night,i believe they are bullx whippets.and that jason powell bred some real good ones.dont know if he still does, comments and a few pics would be gladly appreciated.
  12. anybody got any pictures of dogs and pups that trevor has bred,or any pictures of wallace
  13. got a 2yr old hob here, same thing ,tried small sets, put it down on easy rabbits, that a novice would find,in my opinion, if the breeding isnt there they will never work, this is the first ferret ive owned that has no inclination to hunt, this ferret was bought in, and been given plenty of chances to work, and i have ferreted for over 30 yrs and never seen the likes before.
  14. thanks for that slip lead have started to do as say, cheers
  15. out this morning first light ,with my deerhound x got 2 nice clean rabbits, then a mxy well full of it on the land, then to cap it all the dog rattled his foot, toes seem ok but his foot has swollen up a fair bit, probably just gave it a good wrench, only thing i can do now is rest him up and hope he comes alright for this winter, just what i needed at start of the season, and yes hes had plenty of roadwork of late, most of my dogs have picked up more injurious in daytime than lamping any of you lads had similiar experiences atb for coming season.
  16. totally agree with all the lads comments on your bitch becoming hard mouthed, from my experience it can be the following, running tired, too many distance rabbits, running in wrong conditions and running unfit, also sorry to say it could be hereditary,if you breed two hard mouth dogs together some times pups can breed the same, hope this helps you out.
  17. good windy night where i am tonight,a few nice young rabbits about, but ground is still like iron and the moon is a good half making it pretty light, raring to go but not going to chance injuring the dog, even though hes good and fit anybody think same as me , or am i the old school to wait for the right conditions
  18. nice pictures, lovely looking dog. take care mate looks like a bit of a dodgy area to run a dog even ferreting in daylight all the best for coming season
  19. can you get this on dvd, cant even find an old vhs copy, like hens teeth rare.

  21. like Jamie m said any metal overhead power lines, electric fences, iron ore, will give you an erratic signal
  22. dont even go there, broken toes, broken nails, and if your really lucky broken legs,no point in it.
  23. absolute madness to run dogs collars on,completely agree with jukel123,the man talks sense, seen some dogs, come back from a run in a bad way.
  24. no lamping tonight for me, full moon, no wind, freezing hard, too risky for my dogs, ferreting tommorow first light, cant wait.
  25. hi all, got an elderly whip/grey here still fit and keen as hell, but latelly noticed hair loss on his tail and back, with a fair bit of dandruff in his coat, any ideas as to what it is, and what i can do to cure it .thanks for any help.
