  2. i know this might sound silly, but ive heard you can buy bird song tapes to engourage better singing from lone canaries,can anybody enlighten me.
  3. you can vaccinate your dog once yearly against leptospirosis,i pay about 20 pounds to have the dogs done,well worth doing, as most rats carry the disease,nearly lost a dog through an infected bite a few years ago,watch any open cuts on your hands if in contact with them,also slow moving streams where rats live are havens for it,just be careful.

  6. got a few raw rabbits in the freezer,is it alright to defrost them and feed the flesh raw to the dogs,heard it can give them worms fed this way.
  7. sounds allright feeding raw and whole,but the fish bonescould cause problems with the dogs gut,

  10. whippet would bring the size of the cross down a good bit,also it would give agood nose and turning ability,iam led to believe some of the irish boys have used this cross, my self i would like to try this cross.
  11. no mate, a straight deerhoundx whippet, i presume it would be bred whippet dog onto deerhound bitch,cheers matey.
  12. any body on this site working or breeding this cross,i have worked both firstx and halfx deerhound greyhounds and have found them to be great workers,iwould think that the deerhound whippet would be a good size of a dog for lamping and ferreting,if any member has one orhas seen any working i would be very intrested to hear any comments.thanksall
  13. i feed csj,and chudleys, with a bit of raw flesh,ferrets doing well on it,but dont feed dry too ad lib,or ferrets put weight on quickly
  14. would like to know anybodys comments on these training aids,which model would be best for work witha a single dog,also are they pretty well guaranteed to cure problem dogs behaviour,ie chasing stock,aggression,and general disobedience in wilful dogs,the reason being i am thinking of buying one. thanks all for any comments.

  16. hi all,does anybody know where i can buy these batteries for the deben mk1 and mk5 collars,ibelieve you need rayovac 675g for the 8ft set,and rayovac 393 for the 15ftcollars,if anyone can let me know any suitable alternatives it would be a great help, ihave been told the zinc air batteries are no good in the collars,anybody know why,all the best for 2011.
  17. they have already made one mate been out a long time now,l reckon the best on the market at the moment. hi stevie is it definetly a ferret locator,asi know they do a very good terrier one,where would i get one, and how much, cheers.
  18. just getting into canaries,got myself a couple of fifes,the problem is i am feeding them on a mixture of budgie seed and canary seed,but there is alot of wastage in the cage due to them sifting through it for acertain type of seed in the mix,is there a special seed available that i could give them that would cure them,any feeding tips would be most grateful,thanks.

  20. i worked a deep warren the other day,one rabbit bolted the other stuck,it was in a sandbank and i was using my 3yr old hob,i couldnt even get a signal at 15ft, to cut a long story short the result was a 4hour lay up,luckily i got the ferret back,just be wary when working in sand as you can get cave ins and long lay ups,all the best for the coming season.

  22. feed my ferrets on chudleys dry food, and cjs dry,both reasonably priced and do the ferrets well.
  23. black ferrets have b een around for a good while,the first ones i ever seen were at rufford game fair lancs in 1991, and i can assure you they were the closest thing to mink ive ever seen, the lad who had them was from wales,somebody mentioned that they were similar to the wild welsh polecats, always regretted never getting one as the lad was selling kits at the time,thanks for starting an intresting topic.
  24. just got a nice silver hob and jill ferret from a mate,put the hob in a hutch by himself no problem,tried jill in with unrelated jill, promptly proceeeded to try and kill it,had it pinned in nest box, released scent glands and really wild,the jill is about ayear old,gave the jill to another mate had same trouble,personally never seen or had this problem with jills before,any ideas as to why.
  25. just a thought if you were ferreting on sheep pasture she may have a small tick in the ear, seen it beforein ferrets
