I know shaaark, comments made by you and others, made me realise how lucky i am. Now my Mam n Dads marriage is a good one (53 years) , BUT in the run up to the wedding both my Grandmothers were awful. Their looks of total disgust during the wedding pictures are now seen as hilarious as eventually all found a way through and became friends, but my Mamgu's face in the wedding photo....well there is denying she was not impressed!!!

My sons school choir sang Leonard Cohens Halleluiah at their Christmas concert this year, so for the 1st time ever, i listened to the man himself sing it on You Tube! Loved it.

Consistently low numbers of rabbits this year

Been poor numbers around my part of West Wales for years, however i have seen more this year than for many years. Plan to go ferreting with a pal to harvest a few locally this month, 1st time i've seen enough to do that for many years!! -
Blimey! reading some of these comments makes me realise how lucky i am, i like my in laws very much, if I had not married my wife, i would still of liked them, they are very kind, generous people, and the care they gave to my children in the early years was priceless, I told them if they want to give their other 2 children (whose offspring they did not look after) more money as inheritance i would not mind one bit! Looks like i won on the in laws front!! Cheers. Aled

I am not a running dog man, although i have shot and fished all my life. However I've really enjoyed reading about how you guys started out. As a boy growing up in West Wales i was surrounded by Men and some Women who knew everything about rural life, as Moc Morgan once said about where he was brought up there was a "professor on every street" . People near me had knowledge of all sorts of field sports, dogs, guns fishing, ferrets, throw in the knowledge of how to grow top notch veg and it was brilliant. Had a good think about this before answering mackem, and the answer is no, you see the University experience was priceless, outside my exam weakness I learnt a lot about life and how to rub along with people, how to deal with being excluded, and what to do when you are included i'm always the guy who talks to the person on the periphery, why.... because i've been there! I'm proud of that. I also enjoyed aspects of the study, lectures were of interest. There are other positives, there was a 3 to 1 female to male ratio at my college!! I'm from a academic/professionals family (Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Accountants etc) it was a real shock to family members that i was not academic, my teenage years were awful because of this, "what do you mean you don't like exams your supposed to enjoy them".....sadly the vocational options of study, were hidden from me, yes i've got a University degree, but its through a vocational route which i found by accident, rather than academic!...now where am i going with this. Turned out OK, like others on here a big interest in the outdoors, and wildlife etc but needed a degree (apparently!)...however I am really bad at exams, but pretty good at course work, so I did a HND in Environmental Science, which had a 50% course work/exam split, used to get 70% for course work 35% exams but it was a pass, got my degree through a course with 40% course work (the highest i could find then, nowadays more degree are 50 50 split) in Environmental Science. Could not get a start in the Environmental sector so ended up in Community Development, turns out i was quite good at it,

Tonight's supper slow cooker pheasant with the last of this summers home grown potatoes, carrots and onions and the first of my winter home grown parsnips. Presentation may not be good but it tasted great!!

Well this year i have seen more rabbits around me than i have for the last 10 years put together. Found some land where i can harvest a few. A friend of mine has bought 2 ferrets for the 1st time in years, so i hope to join him in the field this winter. Cheers. Aled

Quite a few of my fishing mates claim that reading Trout & Salmon magazine helped them pass their English GCSE....as an aside one of my other pals passed his resit Welsh language GCSE...he asked to borrow my Coursework file (i'd already passed so no longer needed it), he got a couple of A grades for writing pieces on angling...a bit of a coincidence becasue...so had I the previous year Cheers. Getting a young person to read fishing (or any other hobby) magazine is a great help in improving their reading, they often improve and they are unaware that they have improved as its been a pleasure rather than a chore. My wife is a teacher and often says that reading hobby magazines is a great way to encourage youngsters to read. Tight Lines. Aled
