  1. North West Wales? Think I know the man if it is.
  2. Thats it MM, its not solely about the dig, its about everything else thats encountered out in the countyside.
  3. Any time out of the kennel and in the field is time well spent, regardless of what you're doing.
  4. Probably because vets have a license to print money by charging whatever they want including, like you say, £40 just for walking through the door. Terriers that work underground regular will get sore eyes but nothing that a bit of warm water and eye drops wont fix IMO.
  5. Yes it soon passes by Marshman. One of my digging partners passed away just over 3 years ago aged only 45. We were digging the Friday, out bolting foxes on the Saturday then the next thing his wife rang to say he'd collapsed and had died of a blood clot to the heart. Like you say its the phone calls talking dogs and daft stuff like that that you miss.
  6. Does it not spook the quarry more with all the banging going on above them?
  7. Is that a patterdale x spaniel? Genuine question.
  8. Yes thats a pet hate of mine also Goat. Hate lads that clock watch and also lads that have their phones out every 5 minutes.
  9. I have them altbergs but wouldnt use them for digging they seem very lightweight. I use Meindl Glockners and cant fault them so far. Ive had the Lowa ones aswell and they were decent.
  10. Does it not put you in a corner in the next generation or two though FD if you use only the one dog over all bitches?
  11. They have them in the back of the countrymans weekly i think mate.
  12. Foxdropper i wasnt aware that they still mended the old pieps boxes? My spare one has a cracked screen and i just planned to put some heavy duty sticky plastic or something similar over it once i needed to use it.
  13. Ive only ever had good aftercare from them. Sent them a faulty collar back before and they sent me a brand new one days later.
  14. I feed mine kg bags of lean beef mince. 50p a bag. Also sometimes brown bread, pasta, sardines, boiled veg and anything leftover from the table.
  15. Plenty of terrier lads around that area that could help you out but it's also about trusting someone with your permission etc. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  16. Enjoyed that read. nothing better than being in good, like minded company and digging to good dogs.
  17. I understand your point and agree to a certain extent. But I think its as much to do mentally as it is physically with terriers as opposed to greyhound/horse racing. To try put my point across a bit better an example of what I mean is when they do them daft terrier races at the shows is the winner the best digging dog?
  18. I dont think terrier litters can be compared to greyhound and horse breeding. They breed for the best physical specimins and the fastest in a race. Theres more to it with terriers, its about trying to breed for mental qualities as much as it is physical. Also every man has different qualities that he will look for when breeding terriers. Some like a hard dog, some like a steady dog etc etc the list is endless.
  19. Looks a strong thing D. Im sure you'll have some fun with it.
  20. I agree with what youre saying Alcapone. Quarry that has seen a dog or two is a totally different animal to a green one. They know exactly whats happening and will hit the dog and test it from start to finish. Thats when you get to see what the dog's really made of.
  21. Nothing worse than losing a dog. First is the initial sadness but after that you realise youre plans for the season are all of a sudden blown out of the water. Hope youre back on your feet soon.
  22. Hes a nice looking dog Zilverhaze. Whats the breeding behind him?
  23. I'd like to know where you've been down south mate where most places hold.It definitely ain't kent.Staffs, Shrops, Hereford, Devon were all lifting with stuff as opposed to up here. Apologies mate anything past Leeds is down south for me lol
  24. I think from what ive seen a terrier marking on a lead is a north/south divide thing. Up here you can check a lot of empty holes before you mark something whereas in most of the southern counties there's plenty of game so you can be pretty sure most places will hold and the terrier can be left off to find etc, but if you did that up north you'd be wasting a lot of time. And every dog marks places differently. Some will whine, some will dig at the entrance etc etc, its up to the owner to notice the change in the dog and figure when the dog is marking a place as occupied.
