  1. Thinking of getting some gaiters, with all the rain we've had lately my boots and the bottom of my trousers seem constantly sodden wet and its doing my head in. Can anyone recommend some good ones?
  2. Any story behind them mate? Were they all Nuttall bred?
  3. That Butcher looks a lovely dog TH. I always prefer the older pics as opposed to the new high pixel type ones. Get some more up mate?
  4. Dogs look well ZH. What do you use for a flirt pole mate? Heard about them before but never seen one used.
  5. Looks a solid dog MM. Good luck with it.?
  6. Just googled Sean Frain and it looks like he has 4 patterdale terrier books out? Is that right does anyone know.
  7. Deepest successful dig was 16 foot with a jcb to one of my dogs. Like has been said theyre dangerous for man and dog and not something i'd enjoy doing every week or even every month.
  8. We had one last week in a single hole place, the dog went up the bank at 7-8 foot for 20 mins then headed back down the bank and ended up under the kickout at 4 foot, 3 foot of it was sand from the kickout...lovely☺
  9. Not a fox but had a 3 legged Roe with the lurcher and it ran like normal.
  10. Ok thanks boys. And just type in Pieps Locator on Google and they all come up on there.
  11. Check back of Countrymans Weekly they have a few on there.
  12. Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know if the Pieps DSP boxes from the skiing sites will work with a Bellman collar? Just been looking at them and they're only just over a £100.
  13. Work Them Hard by Harcombe and the NS book are the best ive read and i must have over 50 terrier books
  14. The sharp tooths are made to jump on and loosen the ground up to shovel out whereas them long ones are for keeping the sides straight arent they?
  15. All depends on the digs. Id be happy to say a terrier has made it with 30 5 foot+ digs as opposed to 30 1 foot digs.
  16. Line/ family breeding breeds constant results. Proper digging men that have been at the game and consistently bred digging dogs after many generations will say the same.
  17. Marshman in regards to your dog being harder. Ive always found that dogs are a lot braver when in un-natural or man made surroundings for the fox such as bales, drains, rock piles etc as the dog feels more confident as opposed to being underground where the wild animal is at home. Ive seen a few terriers that look like world beaters in drains etc but are poor in earths.
  18. Ive found the ones that make the most noise and rag dead quarry in a frenzy are the biggest cowards. Like has been said the sensible ones usually save their energy for working. To pinch a phrase from my mate 'the emptiest can makes the loudest noise'. Ive owned 2 dogs that were good digging dogs and as soon as the quarry was shot they were uninterested.
  19. Looks like a good day out. Do they give the dogs much stick? They look bigger in that pic than i thought they were.
