What a load of shite. Theres a lot higher success rate in litters of working parents from generation after generation of working dogs than there is from haphazard or just average breedings. Thats a fact and there are dozens of lads out there digging to dogs every week that will say exactly that.
Time isnt always the main factor Lee. If it'll walk after 2 hours its a coward one way or another. It's maybe a 2 hour dog on a green uneducated animal thats never seen a dog before, but if it comes up against something that will give it a fight back or a fox in a good spot it'll appear with its white flag in less time i would say.
A lot of people chop and change continually because they havent got the patience or the brains to bring on a pup and enter it correctly. They either spoil every pup they have and brand it as shite breeding etc etc blaming anybody but themselves or they try to buy success by buying in entered dogs and skipping the difficult part of entering.
We dont stop til late Feb early March. Like has been said the seasons are all over the place and the weather doesnt cool and the cover die back until late Oct early Nov so if we packed in in January we'd only have about 6 weeks of proper digging time.
Thinking of getting some gaiters, with all the rain we've had lately my boots and the bottom of my trousers seem constantly sodden wet and its doing my head in. Can anyone recommend some good ones?
Deepest successful dig was 16 foot with a jcb to one of my dogs. Like has been said theyre dangerous for man and dog and not something i'd enjoy doing every week or even every month.
We had one last week in a single hole place, the dog went up the bank at 7-8 foot for 20 mins then headed back down the bank and ended up under the kickout at 4 foot, 3 foot of it was sand from the kickout...lovely☺
Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know if the Pieps DSP boxes from the skiing sites will work with a Bellman collar? Just been looking at them and they're only just over a £100.
