  1. Looks like you're having some fun and the dogs are doing the job well for you.
  2. I had the same with a dog of mine the other day that finished last season perfectly. Hopefully its early season keeness and he'll settle down again next time out
  3. Thats it Goat well said, a lot is down to the owner judging things without stepping back and looking at the bigger picture.
  4. Yes I understand what youre saying, i think it depends on how much time you have to spend with the dogs during the day and keeping them occupied. I have 2 different mates that have over 6 terriers on the yard of mixed sex and seem to get along fine.
  5. I dont think dogs are or should be better than bitches, i just seem to click with them better. My digging partner is the total opposite and gets on better with bitches. Its just personal preference.
  6. Theyre kennelled seperately but when exercising i have no problems whatsoever. I get them from being young pups though so that could have something to do with it. As an after thought i fancy getting a bitch next time i get one for a change lol
  7. I keep 3, as that is what i feel safe with having enough work for aswell as enough time for between a full time job and a young family.
  8. Im a dog man, always kept dogs, seem to get along with them better.
  9. I might get one then. Ive been looking at smocks on ebay, the Nomad ones seem decent but they're a bit too pricey.
  10. I'd agree with that Goat, he has a way with his dogs that only the best terriermen seem to have. Mik I'm sure something will come up for you.
  11. I agree that dogs should be able to find and stay etc. But the original statement was that it's an easy job to find something in a hole for a terrier, when really only good terriers can constantly be relied upon to find in the big old spots and it isn't as easy as pointing a dog at a hole and not seeing it again til you break through. It's not as simple as that. Every time a dog goes to ground it's a different environment and different challenge for them and only the best succeed consistently. Too much macho bullshit ends up with empty yards.
  12. 'It shouldn't be hard to locate something in a hole'? I don't agree with that statement, it's not just a case of that, sometimes a dog is expected to find quarry in massive earths with many holes and many tubes and also a quarry that is constantly moving itself and not just waiting for the dog to bump into it. Sometimes it takes special dogs to find in the big old 'dungeons' of places.
  13. Dogs all looking well Dillydog, hopefully see them again in the flesh this season...
  14. Good stuff and a great start for the youngster.
  15. 'Boringly consistent' is what we strive for isn't it? I've had and dug to what I would call decent dogs in the 10 years I've been digging, but am yet to dig to or own a dog that I would call a legend, a dog that never misses a beat that is consistent week in week out. The day I own a dog that's 'boringly consistent' I'll be a happy man.
  16. They are a law unto themselves, stuff like this should be stored and used by solicitors etc. for lads that are put up in court accused of badger baiting, badger digging etc. How they can do that is totally beyond me when the law says it's illegal to interfere or destroy a badger sett. Who's to say they didn't collapse the tubes underneath and suffocate the bloody things?
  17. Good luck with the sale, some good books there. If you struggle to sell email the lad at coch-y-bonddu books he'll probably have the lot and pay what you're asking.
  18. A mate of mine had a bitch pup recently with a hernia, the vets sorted it for about £150 and all was well for a couple of months until it came back worse and he had it done again and was given a bill for £1100! Ouch.
  19. Yes but we're doing our bit to support them and like has been said they do absolute f**k all to support us. I fully believe the upper class would agree to totally ban terrier and lurcher work if they were allowed to continue with the mounted packs.
  20. If Badger Digging is 1st Edition you're talking upward of £100. Email the fella at coch-y-bonddu books, he might make you an offer for the lot and could save you a lot of the hassle of sending books seperate etc. I've had a few dealings with him and he seems decent enough.
  21. Usually equine places sell it. Have a type on Google I'm sure you'll find it on there somewhere.
  22. Fair play mate, hope you make a tidy sum on them. Have a look on ebay or anglebooks.com to get a rough price on what to charge. Darcy's 'Little dogs...' is on there for £90 I think and the first 2 little terrier books should fetch about £50 each. Also the 'Dogs and Deer' and 'Hare and Swift Hound' should fetch £100 each ish. Good luck.
