Did anyone see those "Oath Keepers" on sky news this morning ? American paramilitary at a BLM protest, to make sure no homes or businesses were burned or looted !!! FFS ! I thought it was the Expendables !!! Cheers.

All this talk of food has made me hungry, so the missus has made a game pie; Main ingredients are hare and pigeon, onions, garlic, black pudding and red wine. Dont know if it's organic, but I know where the ingredients came from, I caught or grew most of them ! Cheers.

Game is so politically incorrect with the woke snowflake generation, your more likely to have protesters at your door than buyers ! Cheers.

Out of interest, I just looked on the Gov website about getting "organic" status. It takes a minimum of one year, and up to three years. Good luck to anyone trying to unravel all the red tape ! Cheers.

On a hunting forum , Wilf ! Really ? Surely we catch/grow/produce all our own food ??? Tongue in check, mate ? Cheers.

De rigueur for the well dressed poacher.................around 1950 ! Cheers.

Origional didn't have pockets. Cheers.

I like to see the positives in life, so this may just give the obsessives a chance to get their lives back on track and concentrate on the things that really matter.......bit like heroin addicts going cold turkey; it hurts for a while, but worth it in the end ! Cheers.

The brass buttons don't look origional, I'm sure they had plastic or Bakelite buttons ? Cheers.

Saddle soap. Great favourites of dustbin men and coal men years ago. Very hard to find now, and cost a fair bit if you manage to find one ! Cheers.

People making a fuss about the pubs having to close at ten gave me a wry smile ! I remember when the pubs opened at 11, closed at 3, opened again at 7 and closed at 11 ! 12 until 2 on a Sunday in England, closed all day Sunday in Scotland ! Most people I know go to the pub early evening and home by around 7 or 8. Wont affect me; I prefer a drink in my man cave, probably means I'm an unsociable old bugger ! LOL ! Cheers.

A while back, hybrid cats such as the Savannah and the Bengal, crosses between small wild felines and domestic cats became very popular. Some will have got "the call of the wild" and some will have been abandoned by their owners when they got sick of having their skin shredded and their homes ruined ! These cats would have gone feral, and had a far greater chance of survival, and breeding with normal feral cats than big wild cats. Some of them are quite large and look remarkably like leopards ; Now we all know about the lampers with their "200 yard slips", which

I'm genuinely interested !!! LOL !!! Cheers.

I knew a Scottish vet, in the Middle East, who was given a full grown, male lion to put down by a prince who had tired of it. It was so tame the vet decided to keep it, I must admit i was more than a bit nervous sitting around the pool with a lion wandering around ! Anyhow, it didn't take the vet long to realise how ruinously expensive it was was to just feed the thing, and it soon went ! My point is, you need to be an Arab prince, a Gaddaffi or a Columbian drug cartel warlord to be able to afford to keep these big cats ! So, I guess the people in counties like this who thought

There were undoubtedly big cats of various breeds released from captivity in the mid 70's when the Dangerous Wild Animals act came into force, but I doubt many of them survived in the wild. Did any of them breed ? What were the chances of a breeding pair being released in the same area, or a pregnant female having a litter and rearing them ? Very remote, I'd say ! I can't explain the sightings, so I have to keep an open mind, but I haven't seen one photo that doesn't look more like a feral cat or a dog ! On balance, I'd say they aren't out there......but I'd love to be proven

Are the racoons being mentioned true "racoons" or "racoon dogs" ? Racoon dogs have been classed as an invasive species in Europe. Cheers.

Interesting . There's reasons why animals like wolves and bears are extinct in the UK. The UK now is unrecognisable to the UK when these animals roamed. It's an ecologically different country ! Deforestation, agriculture, livestock protection, has made the country inhospitable to these large carnivores, not to mention public apprehension ! I think some of these "rewiiding" efforts are simply vanity projects, who needs Great Bustards reintroduced when we have native birds dying out ? Do we REALLY need beavers back, ( did they actually live here before ? ). Lynx, wolf, b

My heart wants to believe in the Yeti, Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, Big Cats in Britain, but my head says Nah...... As others have said, surely people like us who walk the land day and night, hunt with packs of hounds, shoot, etc would have incontrovertible proof if anything was out there ? But no, all we see is blurred photos from a great distance, or grainy video that could be anything from a cat to a Labrador ! I'll keep an open mind, I've never seen a Scottish Wild cat, but they are out there, who knows, their distant, larger cousins may be out there aswell, but if they are,

What dogs everyone running this coming season
chartpolski replied to Floyd17586's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Dogs looking good, mate ! Was hoping you'd get up here for a run out this season but the lockdown just got worse ! Cheers. -
Maybe things have changed since I weighed in batteries years ago. Then there was three prices; as is, drained, lead only, (plastic removed). Cheers.

Neither do I. Some people are extremely happy with one trick ponies, be it on hares, fox, deer, whatever. That's their choice, good luck to them, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the pursuit of excellence in one chosen field ! i like to have a go at everything with my dogs, and they sure as hell won't excel at everything, but that's my choice. As I say, if they keep me happy, that's all that counts. Cheers.

An anology in lurchers I've often used is; " I'd rather have a Daley Thompson, than a Usain Bolt" ! A dog that's good in a few disciplines rather than a dog that's great in only one. But that's just me, I don't care what others do, my dog only has to please me , and if that is also doing a bit of beating or picking up, so be it. Cheers.
-
My dogs are first and foremost "running dogs", but I used to take my old Beddy type beating and picking up on the shoot. Of course she couldn't, and shouldn't, be compared to purpose bred gun dogs, but she did ok and it's nice for a dog to have another string to its bow. I would have still went beating if they didn't allow lurchers, but they did, and it was fun.......that's what it is all about for me ? Cheers.
