I guess it all depends on your outlook. I was born in 1952, some things were still rationed then, we lived in a slum in Newcastle city centre. When the slums were cleared, we were moved out to a new development only about five miles away, but it could have been another world, fresh air, grass, houses that had inside toilets, hot and cold running water, gas central heating, it was honestly like winning the lottery ! I remember my dad lining up at the shipyard or factory gate, only to be told "no work today", and dole was meant to stop you from starving, not a way of life like it

To quote Billy Connolly: " The desire to become a politician should bar you for life ever becoming one.....don't vote...it only encourages them ! " Cheers.

A lunatic or a peado..... What a choice for leader of the free world !!! Cheers.

I thought maybe the mid 19th to mid 20th century........ Then I remembered rickets, T.B., kids down mines and up chimneys, real poverty, ( not the type they complain about today), slums, wars where working class were just cannon fodder, no NHS or dole money; Then I think maybe today's not so bad ! LOL ! Cheers.

Reports of the demise of Ronnie O'Sullivan as a top snooker player are somewhat exaggerated, ( apologies to Mark Twain). His first session against Mark Williams ended with him losing 6-2. The second session has just ended and it's 8-8 ! The final session is tonight, and who knows, he could still lose, after all Williams is no mug, he is a three times World Champion. But O'Sullivan is still the most exciting and watchable player in Snooker ! Cheers.

Was that the interview where he said he'd have to lose an arm and a leg to fall out the top 50 as those below that are terrible ? I'll be watching him at 2:30 today, he's 6-2 down, first to 13, but you can never write him off. I'd have to disagree about the darts, I was part of it during its hey day, but I think it's much more entertaining now and the standard of play much higher. But that's just my opinion, as I'm a fan. Cheers.

I honestly don't know, mate ! Theres a wall of silence from the EPL, but surely they'll have to issue a statement with all the pressure they are under, but they could just go down the "confidentiality" route and say a lot, but tell us nothing ! My own take on it, and I stress, it's just my opinion, is that the EPL found themselves between a rock and a hard place......refuse the takeover and piss of the Saudis and possibly cause a diplomatic incident; OK the takeover and piss off the Qataris and some of the "elite" teams that didn't want another big player in the league. So, they

Over 40 MPs have now written to the EPL and Ian Lavery, Labour MP, has said if they fail to give satisfactory answers, it will be put in the hands of the Media, Culture and Sports Select Committee to demand answers. Cheers.

I explained in my original letter that I had a foot in both camps; I want to see the investment in The wider Newcastle area, and also that I had Saudi family members. Full and honest disclosure. Cheers.
-
I wrote to my MP asking her to contact the EPLregarding the failed takeover. This is the reply I got, and the letter she sent to the EPL; Very quick and satisfactory reply. The Newcastle MPs are treating this very seriously. Cheers.

I took two dogs to Ireland and back, Holyhead-Dublin, and was waved through, there and back, didn't show our passports, never mind the dogs, didn't even stop ! This was six years ago , mind, has things changed ? We haven't fully left the EU until the end of the year. Cheers.

When the fire station on the West Road closed, the local Asian community tried to buy it to turn it into a mosque. They were told they had a big mosque on Elswick road, and permission was denied . A congestion charge was mooted, but dumped in favour of a toll on the Tyne bridge and the swing bridge. I think that will sound the death knell for many businesses in Newcastle and Gateshead, why pay to get into town and then pay for parking, when you can go to the Metro Centre or Kingston Park for free ? Cheers.

Wilf, the older generation Saudis who remembered being piss poor Beduin, then suddenly had untold oil riches, spent money like a drunken sailor on shore leave ! They had no thought for the future, they have a saying, " bukrah insh allah", god will take care of us tomorrow. But the younger, western educated princes saw that the oil would run out sometime, and decided to plan for the future. They have their investments in more things than we can imagine. If the north east in general, and Newcastle in particular could have benefited from some of that investment, I'd have been all for

The Saudis are going to have Formula one Grand Prix in a couple of years time, when they get the track built. And why not ? They already have them in tax havens like Monaco, shitholes like Braziil, and Malasia, where Sharia Law is implemented even more severely than in Saud ! Tennis, Golf and horse racing Majors and Classics are in the pipe line As we know, world class boxing is already held there. Its the way Saudi is heading under the direction of the young Crown Prince. He's already ordered the building of a Freeport City on the Red Sea coast to rival Dubai. Its onl

A bit of information on the Saudi Public Investment Fund, that were going to put up 80% of the money to buy Newcastle United. The Saudis were awash with oil money, and were looking to the future when oil ran out or became irrelevant due to new technology. They looked to Norway, who had ploughed years of oil revenue into their own PI F, for when their oil ran out.so hired some of the worlds best investment bankers to set up an Investment fund . The bought up billions of dollars of shares in companies we have all heard of, but probably won't know that the Saudis have huge shares

As I saw it they were going to invest in the local community as well as the football club. They were also going to invest in the grass roots aswell, Wallsend Boys Club was mentioned in particular. If the take over was indeed meant to be an excersize in "sportswashing", then they had to win over hearts and minds, not rip people off, that would be counter productive. The "feel good factor" of the take over alone would have been a boost for the region in these testing times. Cheers.
