  1. I remember an American when I worked in the Middle East, deciding he was going to create a “chuff chart”; you know the sort of thing, a management “tree”, picture of the GM, then below that pictures of the manager, section managers, supervisors, etc. Anyhow, this was back in the 70’s and photography was frowned on, many Arabs believing a photo stole your soul, so that idea went down like a cup of cold sick ! So if they insist on having your photo taken, just tell them you’re an Arab and it would offend your religion, put in a claim for discrimination and that should have them backing
  2. I started with whippets, then had most types of running dogs and seen and worked a lot of different types around the world, but still suspect my last running dog may be a whippet, come the full circle ! Cheers.
  3. Yeah, all that’s in his pedigree; mainly Laguna and Shalfleet. I think it was Walsh who wasn’t too keen on whippets coursing, and once said something along the lines “a whippet coursing meet is usually decided with a bye , a run up and a gone away” ! He thought rabbits were a whippets natural quarry, and were mismatched against hares. Thats not to say whippets CAN’T take hares; they can, I’ve had a fair few with whippets myself. Cheers.
  4. Pedigree whippet born 1991. Supposed to be a working whippet, but I’ve no idea how good it was on hares; Whippet - The Breed Archive WHIPPET.BREEDARCHIVE.COM Black Lance x Gillscar Soft Whisper, United Kingdom 1991 Cheers.
  5. If you feel confident, snip off the loose bit, give it a thorough clean, keep it clean and let nature take its course until it's healed. If you're not confident, see a vet and be prepared to be ripped off ! Cheers.
  6. I watched it and am extremely happy with the result, but Milan were probably the better team, but didn’t take their chances. Newcastle were resolute in defending but never looked like scoring until the final minute of the game. Its a great start to the campaign, especially with PSG beating Dortmund. Im looking forward to the ride ! Remember, we were candidates for relegation two seasons ago, now we are going to the San Siro and getting a well deserved draw ! Cheers.
  7. A ghost, a spirit. It’s where the word “genie” as in “genie of the lamp”, etc, comes from. Cheers.
  8. Presumption of innocence is a fallacy. If it were true, there would be no remand, no locked up over night in a police station. They should just tell it as it is and say “ hey, we think you are guilty, so we are taking you to court to prove it, and it’s up to you and your lawyers to prove your innocence “. Same with the saying that’s bandied about more and more these days; “ policing by consent” . Who gives them this consent ? Nobody has ever asked me if I consent. Cheers.
  9. That’s a bit of a comedown mate ! Working the door at Aldi …. Cheers.
  10. Reminds me of when I was in Saudi; one of the Saudi engineers asked for the day off because “ a jinn was following his sister around Mecca” , and he had to go and protect her ! I gave him the day off, not because I believed him, but because that was the best excuse I was ever likely to hear in my life ! Cheers.
  11. Fiji doing well against the Aussies. Still plenty of time though. Cheers.
  12. He’s completely f****d now that they are linking him with Saville, however tenuous. Cheers.
  13. It may or may not be a conspiracy to discredit him, who knows ? I've never had any respect for him, then when he and Johnathan Ross pulled that particularly nasty stunt on old "Manuel", it confirmed what sort of man he was. Cheers.
  14. Kiwi's running riot against Namibia first half ! Cheers.
  15. The consensus among the “talking heads” on TV this morning is ALL dogs should be muzzled, dog licenses, and compulsory insurance. I can’t see it going that far, but who knows ? Anything is possible with these MP’s ! Cheers.
  16. Correct . In fact the WCRA, the body for pedigree whippet racing, started DNA testing some years ago , as some unscrupulous owners were adding non-ped whippet and greyhound to their pedigree racers to gain an unfair advantage. I don’t know how prevalent it is now, but it’s very frowned upon in the pedigree whippet scene. Cheers.
  17. I’ve only glanced through it, but very interesting! Im reading it as the “big heart gene” is only passed through a mare which carries it, but only results in the enlarged heart in a foal if the sire also carries the gene, which is much rarer in a stallion than a mare. Secretariat is thought to have got his huge heart through such a mating. As you say, not definitive, just a theory, but very thought provoking! Cheers.
  18. I’ll try to answer your questions as best I can, but remember, these are just MY opinions, I’m whippet enthusiast, not an expert. Id probably prefer a ped for all round work; they’re not as fast but probably a bit more robust and not so injury prone, but if it was just for hares, I’d go for a non-ped. In the “no limit” scratch racing of the BWRA there are dogs that are bigger and heavier than some greyhounds I’ve seen run in the Waterloo Cup ! There’s one running now, extremely fast, but runs at around 59lb and about 25” ! Hardly what I class as a whippet, but their races, their rule
  19. Is there any definitive proof of this ? I’m not disagreeing with you, but it seems in thoroughbred horse breeding the stud seems to influence the breeding more than the mare. Also with greyhounds, it appears that the stud has more influence than the brood bitch. I honestly don’t know, I simply try to get a pup from the best available breeding, dog and bitch, as possible. Cheers.
  20. It’s all part of the decline and fall of the West. Just this morning, two people have been dropped from the list of prospective Tory candidates to stand as MP’s when MI5 informed the government that they may be spying for China. This is not the same two who are out on bail suspected of spying for China whilst employed as “researchers” in the House of Commons. Why aren’t they all in Belmarsh ! If this had been Russia, China, Iran they would disappear and never be seen again! Im not advocating we do the same as authoritarian countries, but we are definitely seen as a soft
  21. The most stolen library books of his era evidently. Cheers.
  22. I’m not missing anything ! Ive always said whippets have been bred for sprinting, racing in a straight line over relatively short distances. For the last, possibly , 100 years the best have been bred to the best to achieve the fastest dogs on earth, in my mind, over 150 yards. Of course I’m talking about non-peds here; pedigree whippets for many years fell into three categories; show, race and course, whereas the non-ped was bread almost exclusively to race. I’ve used both ped and non-ped for working and would do so again if it wasn’t for the fact my main enjoyment is running q
  23. It would probably be too fat to run…. Cheers.
  24. As I’ve said before, I raced a money match with a non-ped whippet against a greyhound over 150 yards straight at a whippet track, the whippet won by a couple of yards. We then had a return match over 270 yards at a greyhound track. The whippet led to the bend then was overtaken by the greyhound that won by a couple of yards . Over 200 yards straight it would be close, but experience tells me I would favour the greyhound. Now I know you’re going to come back with “ the non-ped would have greyhound in it” and you would be correct, but this was a 21” 35lb non-ped whippet, against a
