  1. Curried mince for dinner; and ham broth in the slow cooker; Bon Apetit.
  2. Home made pigs liver pâté; Cheers.
  3. The The origin of the word Im sure comes from the Italian for the main lady singer in an opera; Prima Diva, much as the main lady dancer in ballet is the Prima Donna. Both titles have obviously deviated far from their original meaning but I though the question was related to the original meaning, but I do understand there is such things as pop divas, rock divas, etc. Tina Turner would surely deserve the appellation “Rock Diva” ? Cheers.
  4. I think we have a lot of different ideas on what a “diva” is, but mine would be Maria Callas, the aria from the film “Philadelphia “ was outstanding. More recent would be Streisand and Celine Dion. Cheers.
  5. “Each to their own”- we're all different with different ideas and philosophies. ”Mine is not to reason why”- I don’t need to justify why my point of view is different to anyone else’s. We all have opinions, rightly or wrongly, but I can respect other’s opinions without agreeing with them . And there endeth the lesson ! LOL ! Cheers.
  6. “Each to there own; mine is not to reason why”. Apologies for the mixed metaphors! Cheers.
  7. Why would anyone want a lurcher that was yappy and manny ?? Cheers.
  8. I've never had a lurcher that was a good guard, probably because they've all been kennelled and trained to be quiet. Now this girl WAS a good guard; Profesionally trained by an Indian Army dog handler, no barking, no histrionics, just a stare, a curled lip and a low growl ! Absolutely fine with other dogs, even caught the odd rabbit and worked with the lurchers; Cheers.
  9. Maybe I'm just "old school", but I've allways thought you leave kids and women out of it......... Cheers.
  10. “Mother in law was being attacked by two muggers, wife said are you not going to help, I said no, they started it why should I help them ? “ Cheers.
  11. They’re a wee bit chaffed with all the walking I’ve been doing trying to get this lumbering lummox of a deerhound x fit. Cheers.
  12. I honestly believe he’s just misguided, he just needs pointing in the right direction, and I’m there for him when he realises he’s on the wrong track ! Getting him to realise it is the biggest challenge, but my loins are girded and I’m up for the challenge ! Cheers.
  13. Reminds me of the old joke; “burgalars broke into wor hoose and left a ten bob note on the mantle piece”…. Cheers.
  14. Do it ! I regret not doing it to mC when he was younger ! Remember, “ Spare the rod, spoil the child “ ! Cheers.
  15. It’s been a while, but I’m sure one of those pics is from Hawick, the other from Bedlington. Zues’ owner is a good lad, I’ve had a few conversations with him. Cheers.
  16. The “Alaunt” was quite popular around the Scottish Borders a few years back. A lad who was on here had a one, Zeus, that I saw a few times, I’m sure he won’t mind me putting up a couple of pics I took of the dog; Cheers.
  17. I honestly don’t know. I’ve seen 32lb dogs trap faster than smaller dogs and vice versa. I don’t think, in general , that smaller dogs have better early pace, some have, some haven’t, let’s not forget theses dogs are bred to do one thing, and one thing only; run 150 yards in the quickest possible time. Some are good trappers, some have early pace, some are good finishers ! Only the very best have it all, whatever weight class they are in . Cheers.
  18. No disagreement with me, I'm a fan of both the ped and the non-ped, and I'd have another of either in a heartbeat. If it were for racing and working, I'd go for a non-ped. If it were for working only, I'd maybe go for a ped. Just my opinion and personal preferences. Cheers.
  19. I’ve always thought they should just be called “race dogs”, but they were around before the whippet got pedigree status and were always known as whippets, wether they had terrier, collie, whatever, in them. The pedigrees are descendants of the same dogs but went down the KC route. As my old handicapping mentor told me “if they measure in, if they weigh in, they’re whippets “ ! Cheers.
  20. He's around 1/8th Greyhound ; Hes retired now, but I've seen him destroy pedigree whippets over any distance, trapping faster, early pace, finishing, the ped simply can't live in a race with a decent non-ped, of course they shouldn't when non-peds are dogs that are essentially bred down whippet/greys. Cheers.
  21. Is that a non-ped though ? The pedigree whippet came in three versions , show, race and coursing. The lines are somewhat blurred now, but the coursing lines where, usually, heavier boned than the show and racing types. I judged a big pedigree whippet show in Ireland some years ago and the Supreme champion, the best "working" whippet, and the "whippet the judge would most like to take home" were three completely different built dogs ! Heres a photo of a top class non-ped my pal owns, it would be laughed out of the ring at a pedigree show, but would give any pedigree at least
  22. Ignore the Philistines, Stiffy ! L’chayim.
  23. The Robin Hood pub is just along the road. I wondered how the pub got its name, until I made the link with the Costner movie. Cheers.
  24. It's a great area, you've got the Once Brewed pub and opposite is Steel Rigg, a sheer cliff face with Hadrians wall running along the top and a small lough at the bottom. I was there a few months ago for my local hunt, The Hayden, Hound, lurcher and Terrier show. A lot of people were absailing down the cliff. Its a popular walk for people, start at the pub, walk up to SteelRigg then along the wall to Sycamore Gap and back. I used to point out the tree as we passed ,to visitors, be a bit strange not seeing it now. Cheers.
  25. We had it on its own, there’s plenty left for tomorrow so will have some with rice or even chips ! Told the wife it needed a cold Singha to go with it . Cheers.
