What I can’t understand is how Hamas could bulldoze the border fence and come pouring through and it took so long for the IDF to respond ? No patrols, no cctv, no aerial surveillance ? Not like the Yehudi’s to not be on the ball ! Cheers.

Sorry for the late reply , Wilf, I’ve been out watching the West Ham - Newcastle game ! Anyhow, I didn’t say we could or should try to solve the Middle East problem, I was simply stating some facts to show that we were at least partly to blame for it. Another bit of Middle East history that is often forgotten about is the agreement the British had during WW1 with Prince Faisal and his brother Sharif Ali of the Hejaz, (now the west of Saudi Arabia). In return for starting the “Arab revolt “ against the Turkish Ottoman Empire, ( Lawrence of Arabia), after the war when we partition

It would be easier to cure cancer than to solve “the Middle East problem” ! But to say “nothing to do with us, guv” isn’t correct. It all started when we defeated the Ottoman Empire in WW1 who controlled most of the Middle East including Palestine. This lead to the British Palestinian Mandate, then the Sykes-Picot agreement and then the Balfour declaration, which shaped the modern Middle East and lead to the formation of the Jewish state of Israel. Yes, a long time ago, and we were probably the worlds pre-eminent power then, but in the 50’s we started the retreat from “east

Palestine wasn't the only place to be considered for the Jews to form the state of Israel ; eastern Saudi Arabia and part of Uganda were also considered. When the U.S. president, Harry Truman, discussed the plan with King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia, the king asked " why should we give up part of our land ? It has nothing to do with us.". Truman replied " Well the Germans murdered six million Jews ". The king thought about it, then replied " well, give the Jews Germany, that is the only fair way" ! Bit of common sense, I thought ! Cheers.

I was kind of hoping Samoa would do a “Wilkinson” in the last minute ! England were sloppy, they need to improve to have a chance of winning. Cheers.

I don’t know, I’ve not seen the later series, just the ones in Germany. I don’t know how true it is but I heard he went from the rough and ready lad I knew to being a bit of a showbiz “luvvy” after he was in the Evita movie with Madonna. Cheers.

I went into town before the game to get one of those half/half Newcastle-PSG scarfs for my grandson who supports both teams. The entire city centre was closed to traffic, so I had to walk about half a mile to St. James'. Ive never seen a match day atmosphere like it ! The PSG ultras, thousands of them, marched through town to a holding area next to the ground and , fair do's , they were singing their heads off ! The streets were absolutely full of Newcastle supporters, camera crews and a massive police presence. I got the scarf just in front of Shearers Bar, ironically of

That dog in Shiney Row had the bloke by the throat. So much for kicking it in the ribs or hitting it on the head It tore his throat out and he bled to death. What a terrible way to end your life…..

I was actually mates with Jimmy Nail, (Jimmy Bradford), when we were much younger. We swapped Lambrettas for a while when we were mods. He had a habit of mentioning people in his shows and films and mentioned my parents a few times. He was bigger pals with my brother in law , Tony Fleck, and mentions him and my other pal, Chad Shephard, a lot in his book. Cheers.

When I was in the Middle East, I was selling a washing machine for a pal who had left. It was almost new, one of those big American GE jobs and he only wanted sr 300 for it, about £50. Anyway, a Pakistani woman turned up and offered sr 200, I said no, I want sr 400 for it ! She said but you advertised it for sr 300; I said yes, that's correct, so why are you insulting me by offering less ? She looked at me like I was crazy and left. An American turned up, took one look and gave me the asking price ! Cheers.

I remember going to the “baths”, (swimming pool), and the overwhelming smell of chlorine and the machine dispensing Brylcreem for one old penny a shot ! Cheers.
