To be honest it happened by accident. Originally she was never meant to be steady to deer and wasn't. Things changed and I moved into a different place where that wasn't an option. I did alot of training to steady her up and then just started taking her with me. She's been out with a rifle for rabbits since a pup so knew the score with regards walking at heel and not running to shot. She stays at close when stalking and I keep an eye on her, she indicates if there are deer and I act accordingly. She is steady stalking or sat out at ground level. I've not tried her below a seat though.

Spitfires are very special to me. My grandad flew one in the war. We had one fly over the farm about a month back doing acrobatics, rolls, dives etc. Really made me think about how it would have been to be flying one in the battle of Britain. Terrifying I think.

No. I don't really shoot foxes unless I have to.

Don't buy a ridgeline, they don't breathe so you'll be wet from the inside out if you do anything physical. I have a seeland coat that must be 7 years old now. It's disgusting to look at but still waterproof. Ideal when things get messy

They quite neat little led head torches in decathalon for £4 including batteries. I have them as spares all over the place, pockets, truck, van, bags etc. My Mrs thinks I'm mad but you really can't have enough torches about. A bit of light can easily be the difference between a problem solved and a massive cluster f**k!

My lurcher had a range of jobs, ferreting, lamping, bushing etc before I started using her for stalking at 6. She took to it like a duck to water and now also blood trails to a good enough standard. She still does everything she used to do as well.

And we all wonder why everyone hates lads with running dogs. The answer is the attitude of this thread. Poaching is one thing, it's been going on since the dawn of time and no one can stop it, we've all done it. It's the stupidity that pisses people off, being brazen, doing damage, leaving game laid out, thinking it's funny etc etc. Do what you do, just do it quietly and if you do get caught suck it up and don't be surprised. Threads like this makes us all look like idiots.

I've been on here years but don't post much any more. There's a few classic names coming out on this thread who i had totally forgotten. Made me smile.

That's a shit state of affairs Liam, sorry to hear it. I hope it comes to nothing. All the best

As above

I think it was Jim with his dog Ern. Not sure how to find a link to it though. Was a fair while back

I don't know why we have to go through this silly pretence on here, apparently it's about standing up together, but I for one have no interest in standing shoulder to shoulder with fcuking idiots! Because this place is full of people with their heads in the sand. Any ridiculous story about antis, riflemen, farmers is better than the unpalatable truth.
-
It's not antis, it's not farmers and it makes us look daft pretending it is. That was done by fuckwits plain and simple and idiots like that do more harm to us than all the antis and angry land owners put together.

Lots of dry bags too, they are cheap and so useful. Better than zip locks I think and only slightly heavier. I'd avoid the kountain warehouse bivvy bags, get the army surplus ones off eBay. Genuine goretex and hardy as f**k. I would personally filter the water, puritabs make tea grim and just relying on being high up is ok until something has died a bit further up. I had a serious case of bad guts on a trip to masaii land and it nearly ruined the trip and definitely wasted a few days. Ever since I've been wary. The wilderness is a shit place to have the runs!

I did quite alot of backpacking round nz ladt year and these are the tjings i wouldnt be without. Good quality down sleeping bag (buy one that goes way lower than you expect to camp in), goretex bivvy bag, thermarest prolite or equivalent, decent head torch and the thing I really valued was a water filter, can't remember the name but it was a little tube that screwed onto top of a standard water bottle. It was a godsend being able to drink from anywhere and not lug water around or have to boil it

Usually use front line, advocate is prescription only isn't it? I'd happily give it a try if it worked and stayed working

I'm looking for recommendations for flea collars. I'm fed up with the spot on treatments only lasting for a week before the dogs it hang again. We do the kennels and bedding etc but live in a place with a lot of game and the dogs are out and about alot, I'm guessing they are picking up new fleas as fast as we are killing them. Will collars be any better?
-
Always good to see dogs and hunts from elsewhere. I look forward to hearing how he gets on
-
That's a fair few punters at £2 a pop, lol. Hahaha! Actually it was a pound a go at the time! Amazing how many people want to win a stuffed alien by throwing balls at lead weighted tin cans!
-
Everyone is very down on hatsans and but I've never had a problem with mine and I've had it three years now. I guess you get good and bad ones

£90 odd quid in '98 working on Brighton pier.

Been having a great trip so far, castles, bit of fishing (a few bass and a pollack), beautiful scenery and beaches, lovely dog walks and a spot of canoeing. Now we've treated ourselves to a posh b&b as it's our wedding anniversary and tucked into a steak dinner and a crate of cider. I could get used to this!
-
Whoever that idiot is has done a lot of damage to one of the few worthwhile dog charities out there. I'd suggest doglost keep better control of their fb groups as things like this can be all over the Internet in minutes and colour people's perceptions for years
-
Loving it so far. Stopped off at Caerphilly castle, very impressive

We've just crossed the bridge and going to head towards the mumbles (?) and head north up the coast. We've got kayaks so will go for a paddle too I hope.
