Get yourself a whippet or x and let the lad handle the pup, clean kennel and feed Walk the juckel. Its ok haven a working animal but got put hard work in,its not all about the chase, lamping ferreting etc, Once lad is cleaning crap up in all weather and walking training and getting juck fit,he might want to go back to play station with pals but if hes willing on doing everything a dog needs and training and getting fit to work then gift the dog to him. If he doesn't get into the running dog game then no harm as you are dogs owner.at least this way you aint left looking after a do

I have a patterdale x jack Russel x bedy whippet .shes a cracking little bitch. She good ferreting bitch and speed anufe to get bolters.good rater and she had fox and took phesants plenty of times. I took a litter from her to my whippet and all pups doing good.most went to rabbiting homes, and I hear back from the lads and they doing good job ferreting etc, I have seen lakey x Greyhound and they looked handy, I think any of the working terriers x whippet or greyhound will work just as well as bedlington x, Pic of pup I bred ,bedy, pat xrussel whippet.she turned into a crackin

I got a whippet x that took hare, fox, munty, rats, roe and coney and feather in his time. He never had problem with anything until a munty buck one xmas eve gave him a fight.he lost few teeth and was pissing blood few days after, cost over 500 at vets so it was a dear deer. He still here now, retired and sleep at my feet right now.dreaming of runs he had. He been cracking dog and I bred litter from him and all his pups doing well for the lads who had one. I rate the whippet and X's ,they punch well above there wait. If i get another it got b one of the bwra dogs as none p

They looking good mate, see they well cared for,and I'm sure they see plenty when time comes. We all like different things in a running juckel,b sad place we all like the same. I wouldn't have a lurcher without bedlington blood because they suit me and ground I work. I like the dog pup,he going to put some away when hes older. Atb

Is that what you would do?

We all want and ask for different things in our juckels, I have a old whippet x here that would break his heart on whatever he was slipped,as he got older he slowed and used his head to get into right place to catch and he was speed machine when young.he wouldn't come off a run when younger, now he knows hes got no chance of catching like that , so he doesn't run if he knows he as no chance.he just know were hes got most chance of catching without usen to much energy, and he do well, bushers put them out to him and he like goal keeper.

I don't think the dog jacked at all,if dog came back once lamp switch off its doing whats asked of it. I had whippet that run anything and no chance of getting him back until its in his jaws or gone to ground. We all want different things from our a dogs, and as long as our juckels are keeping us happy thats all that matters.they only have to please us. I know id rather a juck come back when told rather than over the Hill and far away. Atb

I did have two,a culit and the tracer.because the tracer was rechargable it seemed a handy lamp to have around. I gave my other lamp to my brother. I never get tracer lamp again. I just got kindly giffted a lamp from a lad on here, Atb

You going better than me with coney,I haven't seen a rabbit on local ground for couple of seasons, they was few hares about in spring but they gone now as well.plenty of kaneys around and the lurchers have snatched a few in cover and i started taken a catty out again so getting my young bedy greyhound picking squirrel, Woody's and kaneys up .I was going to go ferreting with a pal in NorfolkThis weekend but the two bitches just come into season so that's not going to happen now. They cracking little workers and Punch well above there size,I had some of the best times with a whippet or x by my side. My lad would break his heart on anything he was slipped,he took plenty gingers single handed and no cover stopped him. I see a few clips u put up and your pup coming on good pal, looks like you have some good days out on the rabbits. Do you only control coney or do you do fox and roo. I suppose snakes, spiders are a pain over there, do many get bit. My pal in Africa as a big African Mastiff and he always comes back from the Bush with monitor clamped t

You could try putting some Astro turf in one corner of the run as above some dogs don't like going on concareat. It always good thing make sleeping quaters roof low in winter anyway to keep heat in sleep box,I use sheet ply and remove it once spring is here. Putting straw in run might work, Some juckels hard to break them doing this but as been said they"animals"

I have a tracer 150 lamp and need to change bulb but I can not see a way of getting the old one out.iv only had it for just over year and I had nothing but truble with it .I was going to get a culit lamp but I have just had to give up work to care for my misses so really don't need expence of new lamp.i never get tracer again, this lamp only seen a few nights use as when the misses started to get poorly I stopped going out as much.life as been so hard for last 18months with hospital appointments etc that I could not get my bedy pup and at one point I was thinking of letting ma juckels go,but th

Good one mate, I aint seen a coney on local ground for two seasons.

If you get the right pup and put the time in I don't think you will b disappointed pal, I had pure whippets in past that done well on shoots,my retired lad is mostly whippet with a touch of bedy and he was good dog putting birds up for gun,and he also took kaneys before they could get of floor. Don't think the whippet and it's X's can be betterd as a rabbit dog jmop, Good on lamping They good ratters , They don't take up much room and cheap to feed, and easy to live with at home and in the field. Good luck Atb

Cracking pup mate, You have some nice juckels, Good luck for the season.
-
A bedlington terrier would be my choice, To me they tick all the boxs, Good ratters and probably the best rabbiting terriers iv seen have been bedlingtons.
-
I like the wooly one you have, Thinking about putting one over my bedy Greyhound give pups some wind,

Does anyody use whippets or small lurchers for rats
Moocher71 replied to Fat-Ferret's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I've kept and seen whippets that put some terriers to shame on rats, My old retired whippet x loved ratting and he would be in the thick of things with the terriers ,he would position himself and mop up the escapees,he just new were they was going to run to like he did with coneys. Yes you can have some great fun with a whippet or two. -
Nice, you have some cracking juckels Davo , Hope you have a good season pal.

Some nice juckels ,I like the white one.
