  1. Scopes get very personal, as does the magnification and reticle people like. Don't rule out some of the cheap ones, there are all the usual Hawke and NS etc., but these will generally surprise you http://www.jsramsbottom.com/ Modern manufacturing techniques mean that half decent scopes can now be had for no money, and PCP's are not hard on scopes !
  2. I noticed a few Rat bait boxes in the vid, it seems someone isn't doing their job or you wouldn't have so much sport. That looks like a proper Pest Control job is required, with the best will in the world I don't see shooting alone solving that one!
  3. Squirrels very rarely cause me an issue, they can be in the traps before I leave site commonly.....or get shot....you may have seen this before... I have never tried the audio on squirrels, never found the need, it is a complete waste of time on the rats/mice. I have some of the electronic rat stuff somewhere, one of my clients gave me their setup after it failed them and I sorted the problem, so who knows! PS Apologies, I'm not trying to hijack the thread! ATB!
  4. They have the bird feeders all over the place where the squirrels raid everything, and their garden is full of hazel, I have seen loads there historically, but they seem to know their number is up and are keeping a very low profile at the moment!
  5. You're doing better than me at the moment, I have a client with squirrels in their roof space. I sited a number of traps in the roof on Monday, and spent a chunk of yesterday roaming through their garden woodland with the rifles and shotguns for help. Not a single one in sight and not a touch on my traps.
  6. They are tools of my trade, I have air rifles, centrefires, and shotguns as well.
  7. Do you supply the food and drinks? Usually...and usually far too much gets consumed, Henley etc is a social event (the rowing is just a distraction ) and many would suggest the best place to be social is actually on the river, so we have a stack of people who join us for the Regatta, etc and the bubbly flows freely. With more mundane events like the fishing trips more beer seems to flow! Hell, that's what its about, having fun!
  8. As said, you don't need anything more than a CZ for general field work, (nothing will give you more accuracy/repeatability/reliability in the field) some just want a bit more, and why not, anyway....... Rimfires generally available, .22lr, HMR and WMR, each may be deemed usable for different purposes with an element of crossover. Whatever you require, and whatever quarry you have in mind, will/should have some effect on the glass you put on it, so will your personal preference for magnification and reticle. Scope wise there is generally no need to spend a fortune for a rimfire, as lon
  9. I've never had cause to remove a Moorhen at all, let alone out of season. Frankly I don't know the rules on this one, but I would expect you will need to put a good case to Natural England and hope you can get a special licence.
  10. If you have the time then why not, but I don't spent too much time on the rimfire mods. I tend to knock out the crud, give it a right session banging it on the likes of an old telephone directory or Argos catalogue. Centrefires mods are a whole different matter!
  11. Thanks to everyone for the responses! I'll be slumming it on the Gin Palace checking out some areas on the Thames a bit later this year! PS, If anyone knows of some special areas they have been desperate to get at but struggled, give me a shout and we may be able to arrange something for the new season from my boat.
  12. Brilliant, were these all from the Thames?
  13. Good on you all, and it always heartens me to see that not only do people use their guns, but also look after them. I may be an old boy with old principles but I have always taken care of my guns, and they have always looked after me! Help me out with a general question, I note a number of Air rifle owners have/use a lot of different air rifles. Why do you have/need so many, I'm struggling to see the dramatic difference of one to another that justifies so many, especially as we are talking sub 12ft lb? Is it just the tactile, and I can, so why not approach, or do you find a genuine n
  14. You're doing something right, they are not easy usually, particularly the magpies!

    Working Alone

Much in the Pest Control arena is one operative work. I don't know the percentage, but I'm sure its over 50% of the time I work solo, the rest 2. It is very rare I need more than 2 on any job, although it does happen from time to time!
  16. 4 extension poles is a nightmare generally, 3 is bad enough, but frankly it is very rare I can't find alternative access rather than 4 poles. Anyway, nightmares turn up so anything is worth a look!
  17. This could go off all over the place but the basics are simple, someone in a legal position to do so has to purchase on your behalf (or may already own said gun) and you must hold appropriate FAC to accept. You will get a whole load back here but all that really counts is what your region wants, so ask them! Most regions are very happy to have a chat (if you can ever get through) or perhaps just email. Edit There are variations of the rules for members of Home Office Approved Clubs, as you are a member ask your Club Secretary how you can get one for club use!
  18. Rabid use your mobile phone in future for calls like this and if you have Android, download an App called ACR (Automated Call Recording). It basically records every incoming and outgoing call and gives you the option of saving it when the call ends. I'd save a call like that onto my pc and maybe even onto a disk or usb and then store 1 copy with my Firearm Application as well as leaving one on the phone / pc. That way if it ever comes into question, you have some evidence to show you followed their advice. Thanks, too late for me now, hopefully I've not forgotten some old silly thing, I did
  19. It years since I fished the Thames, been on the lakes but now back. Life and times have changed, round my way they tell me there are 40lb Carp and catfish, as well as the usual suspects. Problem is I'm not getting much luck. Hints, tips about Rods, line, hooks, baits, techniques, anything, greatly appreciated. Also good spots, I have a boat and can go anywhere from Osney Bridge Oxford down to tidal. Cheers
  20. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when a potential SGC owner turned round to the FEO at the home visit and the conversation went along the lines........ "Actually. Thinking out loud. Try getting the SGC without having a cabinet is a no brainer. They can't refuse. That's the law."
  21. Jok SS and others have it as above. You are however correct in that there is no specific requirement for a cabinet, but there is a requirement for suitable storage, sometimes ground anchors or strong rooms etc may be suitable, but in the majority of cases a cabinet will fit the bill. As SS has said they most certainly can refuse you if you don't have suitable storage. Cheers
  22. He lives in Liverpool, Merseyside apparently, I think that may be a problem!
