A Question For The Irish Folks - Belfast 5
lurchergrrl replied to lurchergrrl's topic in General Talk
That's awesome you guys are ace ... very different to a photo I have, included with the letter. My mum's grandfather would've immigrated to Canada sometime around the 1920's or so. The photo that came with the letter shows a rather stern looking couple - possibly his parents - standing in the doorway of a white cottage. There is mention in the letter of 'the old house falling to ruins' so I didn't expect to find that. But thank you so much for that info -
A Question For The Irish Folks - Belfast 5

Thanks Bigdog I'll try to look that up. -
Probably this is a shot in the dark ... I have a letter here, addressed to my great grandfather (I was adopted, so not my blood). The return address is 83 Grace Ave., Bloomfield, Belfast 5, Northern Ireland. The sender of the letter was a Thomas Hamilton, my Mum's grandfather's brother. In it he talks about one of the brothers, William, being sent to a home in Ballyclare. He says he was pensioned from Gallahers and talks about his children ... Roy, being in the British Thomson Houston company, another son Alan working at this Gallahers place, and a daughter who was a dressmaker. I c

I agree they can pop up in awkward places mine have had them in the local racecourse gardens but the worst one was in the middle of a roundabout at 6am .... A roundabout - nice one! Everywhere I usually walk I'm seeing them. Which is great, because for the last couple of years I've seen pretty much nowt. Equally, I have not got the inclination to take one - not a moral thing, I just don't fancy doing it and also I'm not really a law breaking sort of girl. But ffs, a bunch get up and go what can you do? It was funny when Fenton set off after them, but not funny when it happens and you

There seem to be an awful lot round here at the mo. So much in fact I'm sick of the sight of them ... and the back end of my dog disappearing over the hills with me doing my best Fenton impersonation. Courtesy of some nosey busy body I am now in the local Poacher's database after being reported. Cops swooped in on me, blocked my car and demanded to know just what I thought I was doing. ... walking my dogs sir. Hardly poacher material am I? .... Not really miss, but you've been reported for coursing deer. Although, you never do see deer in the daytime but we must respond to these reports se

What about atmospheric conditions? The air in a bathroom will inevitably be humid when you're having a bath, so will that further hamper dispersion of the fart? Also, when I followed the hounds a few years back, the old boys used to reckon a bit of moisture in the air was really good for scent, so maybe maybe there's a biological factor to add when discussing why a fart smells worse in the bath as well as a physics one? I can vouch that this theory also applies to showers - as I discovered whilst scrubbing at the muddy knees of one of my kids who thought it would be funny to trump whilst

My council house is a 'three' bedroom, but it's a double and two box rooms - literally. I have two 7yr old girls CRAMMED into one of those bedrooms. Their clothes are in my bedroom because I can't get anything into theirs to put their stuff in. I have been looking for a bigger 3 bed or even a 4 bed up until the announcement of the bedroom tax. The girls no longer look forward to having their own privacy, since we can't have a 4 bed. And 3 beds are as common as unicorn horns now everybody is in a scramble to move. So they will have to suck it up but my heart breaks for them. They have to turn s

I love how the word scum is directed at people in social housing who claim for housing benefit - as tho we are all living in carpetless, filthy houses filled with feral children whilst we sashay to and fro from Brighthouse to pay for our leather corner suites. The bedroom tax is taking it's toll on thousands and thousands of out of work, and working poor, and forcing many to live in cramped accommodation. Keeping two children in one tiny bedroom, for instance, or expecting the parents of babies under a certain age to share their bedroom. Penalising the parents of soldiers away fighting. Up

My kids go to a C of E school, there are a few Asian kids there. Also at the local RC school. They are not allowed to turn kids away based on religion.

Just as I said above - this f****r signed the dogs over and was given a silly wee fine and was still allowed to keep animals... f***ing beyond me... I was so mad when I read that. I walk around that area ... never even knew those dogs were there. If I'd seen them I can't say I'd have left them there or that I wouldn't have thrown a brick at that b@stard's head. Standing in all that sh!t and starving. Makes me feel violent - that it happens, and that when people get caught out for doing it they get a finger wagged at them. Makes me equally annoyed that this sort of this is turned over to

This happened in my neck of the woods. Why the hell do people do it? http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/10161649.Padiham_greyhound_owner_fined___330/

I watched that last night and was nearly crying. Brilliant

Maybe they wanted to compare bolt ammo - the RSPCA favour them as a method of putting animals down, but they're not right good at it and often miss the first time. If dogs are considered 'property' then this boils to down theft and criminal damage. That should be investigated by the police, not the shower of b@stards at the RSPCA.

Which would you recommend then Aaron? Are they all super expensive to start up with? The disposable ecig things I tried gave me a blinding headache so I'm a bit leery about them. It takes me eons to make a decision about anything - no worries about me jumping in

That's what this counter balances, you got the nicotine, so no cravings, and if anything I'm eating better / less because I don't go to the supermarket every day for fags and end up buying a load of food too.} Funny thing and I don't know if it was chemical, but I haven't really wanted any chocolate since I stopped, had a bit but nothing like I used to munch! If anything would put me off quitting, it's that! ... I've been looking at those ecig things, did you try any of those first? The vape doodads seem a bit complicated.

If he was human he'd be severely autistic. Weirdest little dog I've ever known in my life And what about the manny ? He's obviously got 'issues' too. How f**ked up would you have to be to say the dog was drivin? Maybe you haven't seen this yet?

It's entirely possible you know. Brian the Famous Coursing Dog also doubles as a chauffeur on his days off.

When I got my terrier off the travellers at Appleby he was docked - and poorly I might add, as some cartilage was showing. Took him to the vet for his jabs and she grilled me about it. Who did it? Do you have paperwork? ... no, got him from travellers. Have you got a contact number for them You'd think I'd bit his tail off myself the way she behaved. I thought you needed paperwork from Defra or somesuch to legally dock?

Jesus Christ on a piece of toast ... who qualifies these people? I don't know about you but when the vet screwed up my bitch I was more angry about her prolonged pain and suffering than I was about anything else. I can't believe how hard it is these days to find a good, honest, knowledgeable and LOGICAL vet. -
For just shy of two years, I've been following this thread and finding some great music - new, and long forgotten. Thanks all A friend linked me to this yesterday. For lack of a better word, it's gorgeous. Hope you like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccLrLjxvo8E
