The one you call Wood Ear also goes by the name Jew's Ear and is used in stews to add thickness to the gravy. I used to use them when I was making a casserole or stew in the Kelly Kettle while out fishing. Just slice them up and add them into the liquid. They seem to like elder and damp places.

We used to have a few red squirrels in the neighbouring hedgerows and rabbits in a sort of island in one of the large maize fields. The island was where they dumped all the large rocks the plough brought up. It was wick with bunnies. Then, about three years ago we noticed that pine martins were about. The neighbours chickens and rabbits were decimated and we haven't seen a squirrel or rabbit since.

I've never met a woman who would be satisfied with a Dacia let alone a house that I had built.

Even I know that the back of a washing machine faces the wall so you wouldn't be able to see the telly ?

You are obviously far more experienced in these matters than I am. I would have been totally ignorant that the female organism actually existed but for an unfortunate incident when the lady wife was brushed by a sheep fence whilst striding across and the jolt caused her to drop the stick that was depressing the top wire. The resulting commotion that lasted until the battery ran flat left me in no doubt that they can experience something 'down below'.

Here are mine. I use them like Russian Dolls to maximise the space. The large ally one with a plastic food flask containing tea, coffee and any stuff I might need for cooking. In the pan are the knife & fork kit in the green wallet, the pan handle and some fire lighting stuff;- cotton wool mixed with vaseline and sugar inside a 35mm film tub with a piece of bike inner tube around it. That will get a fire started in any weather. Then there are the standard grill plates and chimney pan supports that come with the cook set plus a fine mesh grid that can be used to sieve liquids and also helps

That is interesting especially the 2 birds bit ? . What program do you recommend? I mean the washing machine, not the TV. Or do you use a twin tub?

I've got a large ally one and a newer, smaller stainless one. The problem with the ally kettle is that it leaks if you use it to transport the water inside the KK. I don't have the same problem with the stainless one. I use the hollow chimney part to hold a tin with things like T-Bags, coffee ad also cutlery, flint steel and fire lighting stuff otherwise I could carry the water in a plastic bottle inside the chimney. Its a bit of a pain having to carry a separate bottle for the water.

That requires too much actual involvement. Surely the purpose of this topic is to give yourself a bit of peace, attending to the lady's needs whilst keeping one hand free for the TV remote or SMS.

For some ladies you'd need a two speed hammer drill to get the same result.

Let's see your river catches 2019

Had my first session for over a month this afternoon. Only went local and just took one rod and minimal tackle. It was just nice to get out after the enforced lay-off. I had a swim in mind that is on the opposite bank to where I usually fish and I have seen some good chub there whilst walking the dog. I fished with a small ball of paste flavoured with salmon and cheese. It usually works well for chub. First bite though was a humongous catfish that I fought for ages before swinging it in to hand..... It is now cooling off in my freezer. I'll use it as a dead -
Get some large plastic storage boxes and keep the lids on.

Wise words from your mate. I had already decided to cut back my work and spend more time fishing and camping. The recent illness has reinforced that decision. Hopefully the Silver Monarch will be making its debut in just under three weeks time as a sleeper rod in a swim that could produce anything from barbel to mullet. ? Half a mackerel float / ledgered down the nearside ledge might just turn up a salty cat. ? I don't think that the Alvey will have made an appearance by then so the Okuma Trent will be forced into action again. In the mean time I will be returning to the river ban

More scare stores about French fishermen blockading Calais to prevent Scottish and Irish sea food being imported to the EU. Hmm. Let's just have a deeper look at this. The lorries containing the sea food will have set off from France and Spain full of fresh fruit and vegetables. They then fill up with sea food for the return journey. So, the lorries being held up are full of sea food that has been paid for and cannot unload that sea food to re-load with French and Spanish fruit and veg' so the farmers won't be able to sell their produce to UK customers. Who is losing out the most?

Exactly. May played four aces like two pairs. At the start the UK had a strong bargaining position. Now, with the surrenderists undermining the efforts of BJ it is like Churchill having to deal with the appeasers that allowed Hitler to gain so much instead of stopping him earlier. Now BJ is fighting a rearguard action when he could have been dictating terms to the EU.

Yes, I am sure that my friend will oblige both of us in due course. He would have had no problem smuggling a small parcel containing the Alvey past the Memsaab; something needed to repair the mower or a filter for the van, but a five foot tube might have received more female scrutiny than was good for the recipient of the parcel. I can understand your thoughts about keeping the rod as it is. If it ain't broke don't fix it. And, like you I have no compunctions about going off spec' if needs must. Let's hope that the Arun pike oblige the old tackle. It would be nice to see a photo of old es

Aren't we all mate? ?

Well Mr. Commanche, you left it too late. As I understand it ? , the Capella De-Luxe rod is now sold to a (ahem) friend of mine and will be posted in a week or so in order that it arrives when the, sorry, his Memsaab will be visiting family in England. Apparently the rod is to be shipped along with an Alvey Snapper reel just like the one I was planning on getting for my old Silver Monarch rod. Quite a coincidence. So if you want any measurements or detail in order to help you restore your utility model I am sure that my friend will oblige. ?

You after a bit of tail end? -
Where I live there are loads of boar. They only root up the turf at certain times of year, usually end of October when they are looking for worms and nuts. Their scat is not usually as well formed as those in the photos. They are usually more irregular. Those in the photo are more like roe deer to my mind.

I sort of get this. Personally I identify with slim people even though I am overweight. I reckon that I am trans-slender (I'll get mi coat) -
Go to the Asian Cookshop Online and order some Shaheen curry pastes. They work out around a quid a sachet and make enough sauce for 4 people. Just fry the paste in hot oil for 2 minutes then add meat and whatever else you like. The curry is ready in 10 or 20 minutes. No bother and great taste. Their naan breads are good too.

I've had three ISDS working sheepdogs that would work a beating line together under control (under control was a novelty on our shoots); flushing and retrieving, or retrieving from a pigeon hide plus walking up shooting. A GSD bitch that could and did pull a man down, and also worked a beating line and flushed and retrieved at walking up shooting (I never got crowded in the beater's van when I had her with me ? ). She also did a bit of cattle herding when I helped my neighbour out with his Limousins. The next one was a springer who as well as doing all the shooting stuff could herd sheep.

If it were mine and I had time on my hands I would strip the lot off right down to the bare wood and start again using the original rings if they are not grooved. Five or six rings would me take about an hour and a half to re-do, 2 hours including the lower and ferrule whippings. Then working off the photos you have you could add intermediate whippings more in style to the original. If you used epoxy resin on the rod rings you could probably get away with some of the intermediate whippings if you wanted to. For the lower part; the Marco transfer has long gone so forget that and just repli
