  1. Another take on my home made meatball type baits. This time they have been made using sieved maize and hemp flour as a binder rather than breadcrumbs, a little crushed maize and some hemp seeds for texture and rolled into sausages about 25mm diameter so they can be cut or broken off to the required length to give the same sort of bulk of a dumbell double pellet or boilie bait. Flavouring remains the same though; salt, garlic powder and smoked paprika. Should be fit enough to do a bit of fishing next week so I'll be able to try them out.
  2. I taught I taw a putty tat................ https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-49753154 Looks like a genuine sighting for once.
  3. The old stuff that I come across out here in the brocantes and on the vide greniers are absolute junk. I suppose that it is due to this being a relatively poor area and things like fishing tackle and photographic items are at the lower end of the price range when purchased new. I cut down a lot of my old stuff before moving out here. I have kept a Chapmans 500 split cane rod that is 10 feet and around 1lb test curve. I had that completely refurbished just before we moved. I've also got a 9' split cane fly rod of around #6 weight that is in good order and also a real beast of a rod in an 8
  4. I would love a rod like that. What is the top section made of:- lance wood? It is very difficult to find good examples that still have a usable tip. Know what you mean about not having much line on the centrepin to avoid it digging in. I landed two small barbel using conventional tackle so to give them a chance I decided to swap to a much lighter rod with a Speedia loaded with 6lb line and a 4lb hook link. Next fish was an 18lb carp and at one point I only had five turns of line left on the reel ?
  5. There are 28 countries all with ex-ministers getting these kind of salaries and pensions. Imagine what that costs the tax payers on top of the pensions these people also receive from their own countries?
  6. I have seen it with my own eyes in three different areas. They drive the boar towards the guns and any that are thought to be wounded and escaped are then hunted down by a guy or guys with four or five large, rough coated hounds. They take the dogs to point of the last sighting and then take it from there.
  7. Yes. The chiens d'arrêt are literally 'stop dogs'. To be fair most of the time on the hunts I have seen the boar are driven towards guns. But when one is wounded and lost they bring four or five stop dogs to search, follow and hold the boar until someone can get close enough to shoot it.
  8. The chasse round here do a lot of boar hunting. They don't use the type of dogs that you would expect to see. Most are hound based. The most popular chiens d'arrêt (stop dogs) are listed here: https://chien.ooreka.fr/tips/voir/750073/15-chiens-de-chasse-d-arret
  9. Pump action Remmy with five loads of AAA or SSG would be my weapon if choice.
  10. I've done a bit of that. Treed a coon at Woodall Services and another one at Maltby. Not quite the Serengeti, but it got a bit wild outside the Maltby Catholic club on Saturday night ?
  11. Well, until you actually see some proof you are just speculating. Apart from those on the payroll as a result of being MEPs or staff the only people I know who have received money from the EU are as a result of grants made due to their pro-EU policies. Those are a very few top politicians, not the majority of the House of Commons as you are making out. Might be better to stop using this as a 'fact' to support your views. There is enough bad about the EU without making things up. It just gives the Remoaners more ammunition.
  12. You keep mentioning back handers. Can you please either elaborate or put up some links so we know what you are rererring to?
  13. Two reasons; Because they can see what the EU is. Not everybody is happy with being subservient to EU policy making. Some still believe that the UK should be self-governing and make its own laws, not accept laws foisted upon them that can be designed to stimulate economies in Germany, France, etc like the new MOT regulations. And because they can see the writing on the wall and if the Tories don't deliver Brexit then the Conservative Party will be wiped out at the next election and they will have to get a proper job.
  14. They were haemorrhaging votes to UKIP. Camemoron and the others never in a million years expected the vote to go against them. Why do so many politicians want to remain? Simple. The UK and all other countries are obliged to accept without question any laws imposed by the EU. That means the MPs can avoid any blame for unpopular laws and tax hikes. The new more stringent MOT? EU law. Wind Turbines? EU green energy targets that have to be met. Too many migrants? EU impose quotas on every country. That is why the UK has so many MPs willing to remain shackled to the EU.
  15. So basically there can be no other reason for choosing this location than the availability of accommodation? Any small town that has such accommodation available would be now under pressure from residents to get rid of it to the private sector with caveats on its usage or make it uninhabitable.
  16. That is the whole point that Hungary is making to the EU. The refugees don't want to be there and Hungary does not want them. But they have to spend loads of money to take their share of the quota who then simply vanish overnight. Now, no disrespect to Ireland, but many of those allocated simply do not wish to stay. So why should Ireland pay for the setting up of a hostel and all the ancillary costs when the people they are supposed to be offering sanctuary to leave as soon as possible to pursue their lives elsewhere? Until the Irish government start asking these questions to the EU
  17. These will be have been allocated to Ireland by the EU as part of their refugee policy. The thing is that many councillors are too afraid to ask questions: Can the EU guarantee that all these are genuine refugees and not economic migrants? Can the EU guarantee the good character of all of these people and what are they prepared to do should any be found not to be of good character? What are the options should any choose not to remain in the hostel and refuse to return? What plans are there to integrate these people into our society; education, job training, housing, etc and
  18. As I've got little else to do for another fortnight I set about preparing some barbel baits ready for the flood water that should arrive some time next month. Back in Yorkshire I would use luncheon meat and tinned meat balls, but I've found that home made ones are better as I can add whatever flavours I want in the mix before cooking. When you add flavours to the outside of a meat bait like luncheon meat it can soon wash off. When you cook the flavours into the meat, the fats absorb it and release the flavour a lot more slowly. So, I bought 500g of pork sausage meat and added to that some
  19. There is no easy way to calculate your fees as far as I am aware. It depends on whether you have lots of competition or no competition. It depends on the type of customer that you have. Some areas are more affluent than others. Also, garden size and types has got to play a part. I prefer a set payment for the job and no extra charge per mole or if the job takes longer than expected. That way the customer isn't worried about the final bill being too high. What I will advise though is to think wider in respect of retaining customers and securing a steady income. If a customer has moles it i
  20. Why. Have I upset you or something? ? You are the one doing the pathetic bleating. You are the one asking "Why me?" about the many aspects that you have complained about; the number plate isn't serious, its been on the car for years, the twos and blues, the busy road, the age of you and the Mrs, the threat of the on the spot fine that never was (which is £50, not £100 in any case), the three and a half hour drive that the copper would have known nothing about and the hour you claim were detained when it takes no more than 5 minutes to complete the paperwork. But you would rather not be
  21. The liberals will argue that this is what makes us better than animals. But they forget that it has to be enforced by law and so in effect is not a fair comparison. Throughout humanity the repression of human nature has often lead to some bloody consequences when the public have finally had enough and broke free from it. Sarajevo for one.
  22. There are people like that in every walk of life. You see it on the shooting field taking low, easy birds to increase their bag. You see it in fishing with guys paying £1,000 per week to fish a puddle where they are almost guaranteed to land the resident 60lb carp. Going for easy returns to bolster their egos. These days it is not just easy for police to target motorists, but is actively encouraged because the gaffers have dressed it up as a safety initiative to hide the fact that it is largely done to increase revenue using automated speed camera and the like. And any job that has some
  23. You can't have an on the spot fine AND 14 days to sort it. It is one of the other and you got the other. Think about it ? So, you don't think that is calling names? And you called me thick in your last post which is a bit rich given the evidence that you asked for. Ever heard the term; Hung by your own petard? No more questions M'lud ?
