The LACS were pissed off with him were they not? I try to avoid politics as much as is possible but sure the deal was that his government would ban ALL hunting with dogs by 2000.? They fell short by a country mile. f****d us of course but there was not, and still is not, a ban on ALL hunting with dogs in the UK.

I stopped watching it after the quite genius story line (genius propaganda by the antis) when Seth got beat up by terriermen. Almost overnight a keeper of working terriers had shifted from being regarded as an odd but harmless individual to being a cruel badger baiter. Helicopters, panda cars, RSPCA almost every time you walked or drove out with terriers and a spade. At a time when house burglars and car thieves could go about their business unhindered as the police did not have sufficient resources to respond to reported crimes.

I can only imagine how proud his family must be. Now that he is off the mark I am hoping it will be too long before the media start calling him "the baby faced assassin" Seriously though it is nice to see a local lad emerging without the enjoyment of witnessing it being tinged with the certain knowledge that he will be sold to a "big club" as soon as they make an offer that we cannot refuse. Waddle, Gazza, Carroll. I hope he continues to be allowed to develop intelligently and is given the necessary protection both as a footballer and as a young man.

I am not looking forward to the Spurs v Newcastle game tomorrow. I am not bothered about getting beat, that's not the problem. Newcastle have been on a remarkable upward trajectory ever since the takeover. Barring those in football and politics who have a problem with the owners getting their way that upward trajectory can only continue. What I am not enjoying is seeing players who have performed magnificently running on empty. I watched a documentary on Shane a few years ago, The Great Hunger. A commentator said that the Pogues could never have happened in Ireland. At that time, according to the commentator, Ireland was trying to re-invent itself and wanted to distance from the image of the navvy and the drunken Irishman. Shane and the Pogues where considered an embarrassment and a reminder of a past that many wanted to forget. It took a while them to be appreciated and Shane to be welcomed as one of their own and a talent to be proud of. According to the documentary.

Going off on a tangent but in keeping with current discussion here on other threads... coincidentally I worked on a Sir Robert McAlpine job fairly recently. Mental Health is a big thing in construction now. All the guidence, all the tool box talks, all the nice people (mostly happy smiley young women) who offer support. Great stuff, we need to do more to stop men working in construction topping themselves. I think the original concept was two oldish blokes that had heart problems and had recovered just spending time together and talking shite/pondering the meaning of life sort of thing. Of course they are both famous comedy performers but oldish, white , male and it would seem heterosexual. Rarely seen on TV these days apart from Bangers and Cash. I enjoyed the 1st series but it did become boring after that.

Re Sunderland v Newcastle, it is a draw that most on Tyne and Wear hope for every year, even more so now that we are in different divisions. Texted a Mackem friend and said the way things are going with injuries for us we could end up fielding a youth team. He replied that we could field under 11 girls and would still probably thrash Sunderland . What a game for Lewis Miley to get his 1st goal!

What is an Irish terrier? Too big to be a terrier, not a hound, and too slow to be anything else. Smart dogs at one time, probably the template for all show terriers, but now they are too leggy, short in the back and have terrible open coats. But put one over a whippet or greyhound and I would be happy to have one. Any half whippet or greyhound will catch stuff.

So you take pleasure in other people's misfortune ? It's not just the little fence (few quid from B&Q) but also the paving slab that will need to replaced. But mostly the ignorance and could not give a f**k mind set that people have these days, and that is the problem, I will find out who is responsible and then I will no doubt end up in trouble.

Genuinely sad when I heard this. The only other time I felt sad when a famous person died was when news broke of Gary Speed. Love Shane's songs and how he sang them. Never seen the Pogues in their pomp but went to plenty of the Christmas gigs. One time in Glasgow was probably the best, 2 days of happy partying. Another at Newcastle arena when after leaving to get drinks mid-concert I forgot how to get back to where I'd came from and eventually went through a door that was ajar and spent the rest of the gig back stage. I made a deal with myself last year to watch as many Newcastle games as possible as I believe, on a personal level, I will witness something probably never to be seen again in my life time no matter what possible success may lie in the future. Today's game personified that. New big money signings doing what they were brought in to do juxtaposed with players who were already here prior to the new money playing football unlike anyone thought that they capable of playing. An ex British Army friend of mine worked for a few years in Iraq for a private security company. You know the kind of thing, protecting infrastructure and contractors but not a mercenary. Financially very rewarding apparently but not without some personal risk. A mutual friend who could look after himself and shoot straight but with no military training was always on his case to "get him a fix". Of course it never happened. I am amazed that the vote went "our" way. Should be interesting. The NUFC owners are switched on though, can see them playing only good cards if any. Our only problem, hole to fill, is the ban of the Italian, the rest are just injuries that every club has to manage.
