  1. Not trying to tell me granny how to suck eggs but could contain asbestos. Most things did prior to 1999.
  2. I have Googled the air powered weapon from Nepoleonic era. The Girardoni, Italian design but used by Austrian army. 30 shots but took 1500 strokes of the pumping mechanism to recharge. At the time air powered military weapons or sporting rifles where better in many aspects to gun powder, but flawed. Modern technology has ironed out some those flaws, for sporting use anyway. Mirroring car development in a way, electric motors are nothing new.
  3. Was it the Austrian's using them against the French? If memory serves correctly, read it somewhere. Due to the silence and accuracy of the rifles Napoleon considered them giving the enemy an unfair advantage . Downside was you got one shot shot and it took ages to re-charge the shark skin reservoir.
  4. I needed to use some almost but not completely forgotten skills today when a good friend asked me to install some lighting and power in his new kennels. Thoroughly enjoyed it but if I had been working for me I would have had a serious word with myself at the end of the day asking why such a simple job had taken so long to do and still requires a repeat visit to complete!
  5. Gents, just a heads up, if Newcastle achieve the quadruple winning FA cup, league, league cup and Champions league, once my bet pays out I doubt that I will spend much time on here conversing with peasants. No offence. I imagine most of my time will be spent at my country estate out with a bobbery pack of Russells, Bedlingtons, whippets and deerhounds hunting "owt wi 'air on it" whilst wearing a crown. A proper gold crown, none of ya stirling silver shite.
  6. As teenagers we used to shoot roe deer with .22 rimfire. We knew that it was against the law simply because we did not have FAC's or permission but had no idea on minimum calibre stuff, at the time. Head shot = clean kill, no different to a rabbit with a sub 12ft lb air rifle. Just need to get close enough. Easier to stalk a roe than a rabbit though.
  7. A little gift from the universe this morning... I'm easily pleased.
  8. Was it not the USA that introduced the smaller calibre round when developing the M16 and we eventually all followed suit with the NATO round, but our "enemies" cracked on with the 7.62?
  9. I am torn with this Tonali gambling thing and how it is being portrayed. I work with young men, or rather manage them. So many of them are f***ing clueless as to what real life is and making the transition from a child to a man. This superstar signing for Newcastle has a "gambling addiction" and the love is poring out for him. Some of my apprentices will latch on to that. No, he is a an immature stupid little c**t not a victim or a role model.
  10. I have the room but not the inclination or the green fingers. I try to keep chilli and herb plants alive but they tend to die and just keep on getting replaced. My sister is going to try and relocate it. Cheers.
  11. Not the office as such, not getting paid, but the person who is buying my mam and dad's house is getting annoying. Latest, wanted dad's greenhouse removed even though they agreed on price as it was. Close to "go f**k yourself" stage but that's not how my dad went about things so trying to be as good a man as he was. He's not dead but changed. He was proud of the grape vine, shame to see it lying in the ground. A metaphor for stages of life? Bollocks
  12. You could have educated him better. Always to be drank from an half schooner. Best avoided IMO, not that high in alcohol content but can turn a good man bad A strange drink. Remember working at S&N Brewery as a contractor and they had their own sort of AA department for the lads who worked there, kind of HR before its time.
  13. Diversity Built Britain. Really? I thought it was the slave trade? Wish they'd make their minds up.
  14. A bit disappointed that we got nothing from the Dortmund game. Not a sentence that I thought I would ever be writing not that long ago
  15. The main objection to the "fan zone" is from a councillor who says that the noise would be unacceptable to local residents. People who choose to live in a city centre next the big football ground will be upset at the sound of people enjoying themselves! I suspect the real reason is that this person would prefer that Newcastle were known as a city of culture and diversity bla, bla, bla rather than something as uncouth and working class as football. You guessed it she's Labour. But as WILF would say, we voted for her (I didn't but somebody must have).
  16. The last Newcastle United manager being courted by England was Alan Pardew after, I think, 5th place for us. Just enjoying the football at the moment and well aware that it can, and probably will, go tits up at any time
  17. Murphy's goal against Palace. A cross or a fluke? It matters not. A prime example of a player who looked destined to drop down a division from the EPL never to return not that long ago. Simply not an EPL quality player. What changed that, and it has happened to quite a few at Newcastle? Is Eddy Howe in possession of football's Philosopher's Stone and can create gold from lead? Could it be something as simple as getting the players fit and training them properly with a real game plan that they all understand? It would be interesting to find out Almiron, Sean Longstaff, Schar, Joelinton, Willock
  18. No matter what it has messed up our recruitment in regard to FFP for this season. £50M and goodness how much in wages. No different than a long term injury I suppose and Longstaff gets more of a chance with the big money signing not being an option anymore.
  19. This Tonali thing is annoying. Just when Newcastle were making only back page headlines another knacka messes it up. Apparently the kid cried when told that he was being sold and cried when the coppers came a knocking with the gambling thing. OK, he is a young lad but does not seem very strong mentally or the sharpest pencil in the box. Undoubtedly talented though and a complete ban from playing wont do him much good from a mental perspective. I think in these circumstances the player should be allowed/made to go on loan and play in a lower league. I suggest Leeds, Preston or Birmingham in the
  20. This race, I could be confused but it is mC HULL against a dog? From scratch or handicap?
  21. That is a bonny dog. Safe around stock?
  22. The nice ham with the bread crumbs (Micky Flanagan)
  23. Men who have been sent to the supermarket by their wife/girlfriend and are being controlled remotely via a mobile phone like some non-sentient automaton. Howay lads, have we really become so pathetic?
  24. Them Polos are nice. Seen this one close to Ballinamore only a few years ago.
  25. Rear while drive transit. Police officers turned up. The 1st on the scene had a brief conflab with me and quickly cancelled the air ambulance. Some well meaning half wit had reported a bus crash. I had already called our standard recovery, and even though the lad said his rig was not man enough (a f***ing big rope) the policeman allowed us to try. The rope snapped. Next one turned up with a bigger rig. Did not work. Eventually the police offered the service of something that could do the job but warned me that we would have to pay for it. In the mean time the traffic was backed up for miles in
