yet to see a dog not mark a hole ,but its how they mark and there manners that make agood rabbiting dog quite like a cat and not being a pain when ferrets down , and they have to have pace and good fetching skills and not crocodile jaws , and paitience ,there ferreting dogs rabbiting dogs ,then there dogs you take out and you just bolt a rabbit for them , when we had the national rabbiting trails you saw some real good dogs , most collie whith racing greyhound whippet through them , the need to be fast of mark and back for the next one ,all sorts of dogs make good rabbitin ferreting do

breed of tried and tested stock , when i started breeding i went for dogs that one cups for coursing or competitions for hunting , then tweeked them to suit my stile of hunting , i think you have to have a degree of intelegence and plenty game to get the best out of a dog , for all round hunting coursing ,but i think if you breed of champions that are bred right your half way there , the rest is feeding entering and good dog man ship , but you have to put the game in front of your dog to make him good , and give him the sucsess , its an art ,

its not hard to get them to carry , but you can sicken them ,if your doing long runs and out all day for 2 or 3 days a week tp get a great fetching dog little and often till the fetch is the most important thing in his life , i was areal keen dog trainer at one time but , lost intrest a bit, got a good dog at moment fetch anything i taut him but he has got it in him , some dogs are natural , never had a terrier cross so dont realy no what there ability is for fetching but i think they can be trained like most dogs all the best ,

very scrubby land very like the central belt of scotland ,lanark shire etc you must get a bit of good hunting to with the cover about you
-
hares are running well even on moorland ,saw a few today they were up and off ,and used every bit of cover to get an advantage , funny how you get white hares next to brown in same areas , good feeding i think draws them in ,

at this time of year there failed dogs or just dog peddlars , who are ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY steer clear or unless you can see him her run , ther4e men come over from other parts and sold dogs that were not worth a carrot stick to guys that are genuine hunting men , and dogs that suit the land you run ,,to many getting robbed with duds and internet heroes years ago when hunting was all legal you could see a dog run in a comp , then get a pup or see a dog on a hare ,now there more underhanded since the coursing ban there still genuine guys out there , dont listen to outlandish tales backd
