pick the clever light built type with along back if possible ,something that can run nothing to strong lookin, look for ones that cut the corners on the chase ,when there playing etc ,pick the ones that are doing the chaseing not the ones getting chasesd and are not as clever with it,look for the aggresive runners who are keen as well if they dont run and try no good to man nor beast ,good luck ,not had aproblem with father cacthing game in daytime or nite on long runs ,jumpimg etc a real dog hopefully you get something simliar , pacy and with good running wind good feet etc

ive hunted since a boy and never stopped you just have to box clever and change youre tatics ,to suit the situation ,you need proper spokesmen for the hunters and clever ones at that ,had my fair share of attention from the goverment shepherds ,over the years and alot are just lying through there teeth to get a capture ,and alot of the ones doing the caling are more naughty than a man chaseing a hare , i ope something sensible comes out of the hunting bill something good

good to see dogs that yo have bred doing the bizness had several good reports over the years , thats what dogs are about tomo ,

best way to pick apup ,i bred rex ,watched him as a pup chaseing other pups ,cutting corners going up and down the gears , even as a youngster , and still does it ,so does some of his offspring ,a fast dog that can use his brains , bred form generaitions of coursing dogs luca flint max etc i just put more pace in, them with a grew bitch i owned a handy animal bred out of boy blue crossed with a real distance greyhound a1000 yard bitch, hopefully some of the pups take his lenth feet running brain .haymin ,youlle get very good allrounders and maybs a few specail ones like the father who can do
-
some of the fawn brindle like rex, the father of them ,pups, got lots of pics of pups he has produced to good coursing bitches and working lamping lurchers ,hees rising seven and not got a knocked toe , and still flushing , daylite on game ,hopefuly apup throws to him, be nice to see a running machine ,he covers the ground like a cheetah and hangs on, haymin,

type of land i course hunt you would go through collie crosses like hell to get hare dogs nowadays , im not talking about pinching them of the seat i mean 50 yard start on hares run regulary good winter hares ,had one or two but more sucsess with match dog to collie type ,or just saluk type , on regular run hares takes a good dog ,a very good dog no matter what cross
-
the rex dog i have produces good dogs so does my mates black and tan out of chuck to saluki ;lurcher top drawer dogs catching all sorts there not at public stud tho just people who keep a good dog there selve , there plenty good dogs out there just some dont let them for stud otheres do ,i like bull dozer reminds me of a staghound saluki cross ,thats were i would go ,if i wanted new blood in ,breed him with a pacy bitch for the smaller feilds round some areas , romoes nice to ,anything with pace and a good mouth for smallerfeilds than fen ,had the good fen type lurcher just need to be dilute
-
best attributes ive saw were collie and saluki in both , made top dogs on allsorts over the years
-
always breed of tested stock and seegeneraitions of breedin best way worked for me , as there no hidein places on some of th4e big arable feilds dogs have to run to cacth in winter not many gimmies or fence bouncers etc , any lurcher will not do , simple as , tried and tested stock proven lines , then the [BANNED TEXT] type of entering feeding knowledge

fluff replied to FERRETBOY's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
guy in pub talks crap lampe from roadsides twenty five years past and now ,in certain areas only way to go other areas walking better , if youre a hunter you mix it up to suit the land at times -
bring them on with a collar , thats surely diffrent , collars got there uses but not on them all the time , unless trying to stop them on deer etc , the training is doing it when there young befor they chase properly , once you get the stop button sorted theyl drop when told ,,stopping dogs haves it good piont and bad all depends there make up ,hees a nice type pof dog not along dog coursing dog but ideal for foxing etc
-
edrd what do ypu mean time warp im more forward thinking than alot when it comes to breeding good dogs , when the colie cross wasnt good enough i brought in the top class saluki cross , to blend in , then kept a good line catching hares roe whatever , i dont think thats time warp if anything forward thinking, any time you want to see time warp dogs there up here in the kennel, bring a couple of yours along ,be nice to se collie crosses like lana etc still got one mini shes six but still game and her son ,rex is six hees still agood stamp and doing the nessasary , top drawer dogs not time warp

andy moor d slieght done more in his life than youlle ever dream about mate , hees no puppy peddlar and in the ninties had some top drawer colie curs m chapman one national feild trails ,bob was like hewyels dog jake tough mean he took rabbs hares fox ,odd roe birds on ths clap , these were serous dog men at one time not puppy peddlars if you have a number email it to me ille let dave have a crack with you hees no mug when it comes to dogs and breeding mate ,he worked in the pits till strike of 85 , and had some good very good collie cross grews , i just bred them up to suit me for hare ro

ye fuji only half greyhound other collie grew line bred by d slieght katie and m chapmans bob,,she was fit in that pic and brushed out , in winter she was more collieish but not to much as they still have to cacth winter hares on open land im not mad into running dogs double ,trebled ,and i dont like colleis that stalk ,or start rating there game to young, like commited dogs with pace fitness stamina , and good fetching ability , when i see alot of dogs on here alot look like there not got that hardiness to course several in the day ,look awful colie looking the opposite of what im lookin
-
fuji only way to test a dog is to take it to places were hares are well ran see how they do ,in winter ,or areas were game has been harrased a bit , i like dogs that are up and at there game ,nothing else will do , as its all open coursing land anything slow gets a tale chase unless early season when there a bit silly ,,hard game at times ,and if you have dogs like lana or can do the same, ille not need to go far for another ,there getting thin on the ground top class collie greyhound type , thats why i keep coursing type dogs can produce them easier mate
-
bred her in 2000 put her away 2012 but got two good litters of her to keep her blood on the ground for running ,
-
no, bred her my self still ,got one ,left in kennel and some pups but with saluki through them great to have bred and owned a dog of that stamp and still got them about , she was collie lurcher back to grade a greyhound bitch ,fuji, i used them for daylite hares same as my saluk crosses she done well on fast wheat land ,,never bred them for looks just coursing day time and bolting rabbs ,and roe on the open land we hunt in winter, single handed dogs ,just hard to keep a standard ,as i like the saluki cross to ,rex is in the same stamp as lana but not a collie cross saluk cross , hard kee

-
ye bird but you need the right stock to water them down saw four generaitions of the type i have ,all simliar traits m chapmnas bob , my luke lana minni ,im wondeing if there still that stamp about tidy dogs fast plenty grit and good retreiving instincts or is it athing of the past ,lana had the attitude of the terrier even tho there was none in her the speed of the greyhound and drive of a steam train ,even at ten and 9 killed game ,with pins in her leg never had adog so driven to catch ,im wondering if there others simliar still about mate
