    Ok, lets rewind this a bit and start with the bulldog. No, not them John D Johnson inspired efforts that ain't got the balls they were born with but the original bulldog, British bred from molossors (spelling?) and mastiffs. Look to it's name 'bull'dog because long before dog fighting was popular bull baiting was the game. Them real bulldogs were set, on mass, to a bull in a ring and required to hold on, many taking serious stick and dying in the process and eventually bringing that animal to it's knees. Bear baiting was pretty popular too but bears were rare and expensive and so like today (!

    I'd rather not let things go to waste but i ain't gonna feel guilty about it if i do. Though by the same token i hate folk who bin food because of sell by dates, rather than checking to see if its still edible. What boils my piss is the perfect produce mentality that the supermarkets say we have. It pisses me off that good fruit n veg is binned before it reaches the shelves because it aint the right shape or size... It pisses me off that trawlers can dump so much good fish to catch a certain type. Thats food wastage on a massive scale!

    The working terrier is the only animal on this planet that activly seeks out an enviroment totally alien and dangerous to it's self, to do battle with an animal it does not want to eat... Or something like that.. Not my words, Di Harcolmbe i think but no matter, it is the best description of why we cant help but admire these gallant little dogs... Their fate is in our hands...

    without going into detail and splitting hairs about what is the difference between unlucky and as you said unfortunate ( basically they mean the same thing mate). Any man that breeds of course breed for success but the reality of breeding is that they all don't make the grade.     Totally see and agree with Morton & FD, luck should play no part, no self respecting breeder should think it does. You breed to succeed, you breed with the expectation of all and if a pup falls short then that is simply unfortunate, for whatever reason, not that you were unlucky and then you re-evaluate for next time. No luck involved, only logic...

    Couldn't agree more Gnash, you've got to be in it to win it, to quote a phrase!No different than shows, don't stand there and berate the ammount of none workers in the ring when your stood outside with a couple of well grafted dogs on leads... Rack your brains for hunting subjects, or put up a none contrversial photo (All-Terrain done it well a few months ago with his 'view from your swim' post) and most importantly post wisley, help where you can and keep doing it, the site is only what YOU make it.     You can get a scratch off a broody old Rhode Island Red or almost any domestic fowl but a real bird can, if your not careful, do you some real damage. When i was young i used to get the train up to Wigan to a bloke called Mick, who left to do the terrier work for the Cotswold. Mick kept a real bird or two and i remember calling in one day to see his Mrs agueing with him to go to the hospital as he'd took his eye off a bird and got footed right across his lower eyelid.     Feet are all different. My logic would be that unless the dog is a world beater, then dont breed from it if it breaks a lot of toes. Personally, i dont give a flying feck what a dogs feet look like, only how they perform... I've seen the best cat like toes smash easy as bolsa wood and the worst spider digits take all sorts. Stop worrying what they look like, get em fit and see how they perform! Far too much foot hang up's on here...
