  1. my pups and adults eat the same, just different amounts and different numbers of feeds per day
  2. theres one which picks up on a shoot near me, i havent seen it work but according to one of the beaters i know, he says its terrific. also goes wildfowling and has no problem in the water, plus trails wounded deer apparently.
  3. s o you have tried an electric collar and guess what the behaviour has got worse! there is possibly some justification for using these things in some exceptional circumsrtances, but to be hnest you need to be exactly one hundred percent accurate in the timing of them or quite simply you will make a dogs behaviour 1000 times worse. they are not a thing to be played with, they are a tool which experienced trainers may have some success with in extreme circumstances. to be honest, 75% compliance from a 2 year old saluki was pretty good, and i don't know why you couldn't hjave accepted that as a
  4. i dont think you can beat a good dose of collie, my dogs are all roughly half collie and the rest greyhound nowadays but at one time we would cross pure collies onto fast lurchers. this would produce some of the best knockabout, try anything rough hunting dogs i've ever seen. never seen a reverse 3/4 run, but i wonder in what way would this breeding be an improvement on a genuine first cross?

    Boot Care

agree with cragman, wax is better than dubbin as the dubbin can be too thick and clog the pores which allow a boot to breathe. if you warm the wax slightly before use it will penetrate better. and yes, the seams are very important, its possible for the stitching to rot and the boots fall apart even though the leather is sound. we always used to put on a new pair of boots and stand in a bucket of water until they were saturated then walk in them till they were nearly dry then let them dry out slowly, this made them shape to the shape of your foot but its not necessary with modern boots
  6. i'm not sure exactly how it works but for certain animal species you need to get a certificate to be able to sell their body parts. as you point out, the age is important but you may be required to provide some proof of this. dont get caught out and end up getting them confiscated, do your research and let us know how you get on. i would guess your local auction house could advise you, or if not you could ask these people http://www.cites.org/
  7. i've had acouple of shepherds and i ahve to say that if you do them right, they are one of the best dogs you will ever own. these were what i think of as old fashioned types, not pedigree but purebred, the sort you would see guarding every scrapyard or car lot in the 70s, good conformation and temperament and a far cry from the show bred rubbish. i would say that some individuals can be a bit over-assertive with dogs of the same sex, and you need to establish control at an early age, but i dont mean you need to be tough with them, just consistent and firm. clever, brave, determined but also re

yeah i could use them for sure, but buggered if i'm driving all the way up there. nice offer though
  13. if we can get rid of scotland, when can we get rid of the welsh, irish and cornish too? (only joking lads )
  14. yes. get him under a heat lamp, and if he's still not right in the morning get him to the vet
  15. its nothig to do with resources, bet there are plenty of them doing traffic control! a lot of it is to do with the chances of getting a conviction (slim). i am a little surprised though that more people dont decide to take the law into their own hands, for example paying a visit in the ealry hours with a can or two of petrol....especially when it isnt just about someone nicking a dog but has now become about people trying to kill you.....i haerd a story a few years ago of some old boy who had his dog stolen, so he put rat poison in apples and fed them to the travellers horses.
  16. thats what i would like to know please iceman, in what ways are they different, running wise? and do different dogs run one type or another better? thanks for the input so far gents
  17. Looks like that wet see though sort
  18. That Bruce Lee scenario is such a lovely romantic theory in writing .....unfortunately its not realistic in the real world......as a schoolkid i never started fights but being quite a big lad i would get hassle from older stronger kids.......i wouldnt back down so more often that not got the shit kicked out of me every other day i didnt literally mean that i/we would win every fight gnash, just that it was bad form not to stand up for yourself and give your best
  19. sesku hows that collie cross of yours doing?
  20. is there any difference in the running style of the two types? is one faster or turn better or anything? make different use of cover? does it take a different type of dog or one with a different technique to run the different types? or is a dog which can do one type usually good on the other as well?
  21. dont pay the whole bill, apart from the money itself that could be seen as an admission of guilt. offer a contribution as a goodwill gesture, apologise and tell them to take it or leave it. if he cant afford a vets bill, i doubt he could afford a lawyer !!
  22. that looks great, he has set it up really nicely. what water are you using?
  23. hope the little one inherits his mothers looks (i've never met her but i just saw your photo on another thread) seriously, congratulations. my second child was due on 31st August, mrs beast will be induced on friday if there is no baby tomorrow, and like you i am a more mature gentleman and thought my days of no sleep and no time and no money were over too. but worth every minute!!
  24. when we were growing up it was part of the culture that you didnt start a fight, but if somebody else did then you would finish it. i trained and boxed a bit because all my family had done so, my grandad was champion of the far east fleet during WW1, and we were expected to follow suit. but i was never much good just a real tryer. now the thing is, i never much enjoyed a fight, some of the family loved a punch up and although they would never start something, they would roll up their sleeves at the drop of a hat. and if their opponent had mates with them, then you knew that you would be in
  25. cracking pup, i'll be surprised if you still have it in a weeks time
