  1. the dog breeders manual, E.fitch Daglish. inbreeding explained and encouraged..good read.
  2. good post genetic reading is as you say boring but well worth sticking with ------ sounds like a book dont it. Where a lot of knowledge is learned.
  3. listen my friend would you have the balls to speak to someone like you do face to face or do you just let insults flow of the computer, line breeding might be inbreeding with a plan to you but what most people think of that as grandfather to grandaughter or uncle to niece breeding where i am talking about intense inbreeding as in what they do with pit dogs, game fowl, the jersey cow , and as they intensely inbred the stock improves and yes as you say you do have to adapt if things start to go wrong but i cant talk to you anymore. you are the sort of person that thinks he is put on the earth to
  4. Good point here, I just don't think culling is as prevalent in the dog game as people like to think..........we hear a lot of talk on here about how genuine terrier men gift their pups, this may be true, but I think the vast majority still sell on pups/unwanted stock..........I don't know a huge amount about line breeding, but I know a lot of inferior stock is still put out there by 'genuine terrier men'. Surely culling must be as important as the choice of breeding for a consistent line? spot on .If its faulty it mustnt be bred from. It should be culled or neutered.
  5. Please, if you have some knowledge to impart that could help others to breed better dogs why dont you just come out with it or hold your insults and let others have there say..
  6. only pair ive had is Burma waterproof walking boots. They are the best boots ive had and 100% water proof. Only prob has been getting Meindl replacement laces.
  7. I think people take comformation or shape into account more than they think. You can have a dog with the heart of a lion, but if he is too big for the earths you are doing then he will struggle so you wont ever know his true potential. When you come to breed most people will automatically be looking to reduce size and select small types from his litters. This is common sense. Its not about showing, its about having the heart in the right shape of dog so he can do his best. Has for colour Ive heard all the macho talk before but everyone has colours they like. Humans naturally judge most things wi
  8. my apologies i didnt realise that. Must be since hes not on BSA payroll.
  9. I would never feed all in one.I cook meat and veg and raw aswell and add a sprinkle of Australian formula which i found good as a mixer only. I add cod liver oil the tea spoonful a day as too much will hold up the protien in the liver. Dogs like old fashioned stews with meat and veg and either brown bread or good mixer, they also get moisture then with the soup. If you cook meat in the same pot for a few days and take the fat off when cold you will get a nice jellyfied broth which dogs love cold or warmed with a bit of hot water. I met a bloke once who worked in a dog food factory for 25yrs an
  10. i remember being at a russell club meeting one member a well known russell and hunt terrierman gave a long speech on how the kc would be the ruination of the russell and how we should avoid it like the plague and how we should try and stop it ----- years later having missed the boat re kc reg he started his own russell club presented records and pedigrees and via the irish kc joined up for the money------ his pups went up from 200 to 500 overnight. thing is theres nothing to stop the show mob showing at kc shows or working terrier shows -------- will it be the ruination of the working patt n
  11. What do you mean stage two? I think you are getting confused with sfs.
  12. thornit can be dangerous. Canaural needs prescription. I thought ear mites are usually in summer. ruggles is good natural stuff and it loosens wax,but it does stink a bit.
  13. if you make something and sell it, its your product. You cant go blaming others for design faults. If it aint right dont make it and sell it.
  14. read a couple of terrier books by Dave Harcombe first and that will give you an idea.
  15. 2 for sale in c/w this week mate.
  16. Its a good picture I think of a trainer watching his hound work things out for itself as it surely will have to when its out of sight of its master. Pups that are kept away from fencing will be the ones who get in trouble with it.
  17. you cant beat proper quality B&F and you can buy a good hole puncher off them aswell.
  18. take him for walks where there is smell and just let him find it for himself, some are slow but dont encourage him. If you can get out with a pal who has a dog already hunting thats even better. In a few months you will be more worried about getting him back than anything. atb J.
  19. I run one for foxes, but it didnt really have the balls for it
  20. falcon prairie,bullbarrel walnut stock, mint condition +hw silencer and 1 8shot mag .177cal £230 was over £500
  21. She sounds a good bitch. Ive never seen a spaniel/terrier cross but ive always thought it would be a good cross if the right types were used. You would need to know what was behind the terrier breeding of course, you wouldnt want any suprises there. You already know the spaniel is pure so its only the terrier you would have to think about. If you could get a terrier from a close bred strain you would also get the hybrid vigour of the 1st cross in the pups. You could end up with pure hunting machine..or am i getting carried away?
  22. dont push him mate, just take him where there is smell and walk. Let him discover it. When he goes in a run just stand still ,dont distract him and dont encourage him,let him know that when he follows up a smell you will still be in the same place when hes finished. Hes only a pup.
