    We cut quite a lot of Hawthorn winter before last. Its great in a woodburner/cooker. We couldnt get this year because of wet,but still got plenty of Ash and tree stakes.

    If I could just hark back to the topic...You can only breed to your own standards unless you are breeding for a market which will make demands on the stock you breed if you want repeat business..If you breed for yourself and friends you will know what you want and the surplus in my opinion are best put down. Has for going out with other folks and there dogs,what goes on on those days/nights should be kept between yourselves.Its a well known fact that if you praise a dog up or bragg about it He will definately let you down in company. Well said. Sometimes a change is good for the dog too. When dogs are not good for what they were bred for they are best pts imo but sometimes a good dog can change hands for the better.

    It could be a hereditry condition in some terriers.Weve had it in Russells. I dont think it gets better if its that but you do need to see a vet.

    It all comes down to dominance of genes Tozer. Selection from crossbred litters is the key to getting the type you are after. Most people have sold the greater part of a litter before it really takes shape. I would suggest you keep back at least 3 of the pups from a litter that you think are in the region of what you want and grow them on a bit.

Which would have the effect of covering any weakness in the bitches make up ,but unless the offspring were mated back to the sire it could all come undone again if the next mating was an outcross to a dog that was not DD even though he may be a good worker himself.     dont do any other training with her until she starts to hunt. just take her to the same places where there is smell. She will become familiar and get confidence quicker. Take her out at least once a day and two or three if possible,always on the same route,but it must have rabbits about for her to smell. good luck
