Scottish consultation on hunting with dogs
omegathelast replied to Luckee legs's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The draft bill was published today. Probably take 6-12 months to go though the various stages but others will know better. My advice is lobby your MSP’s, join SACS and CA and actively press them to raise the parts of the bill that will ruin your way of life. The CA seem to respond like it’s just about fox hunting, whereas the idea that a young lad going out for a day in the countryside to catch a rabbit with his ferret and whippet may be a criminal in the future is almost beyond belief. -
Scottish consultation on hunting with dogs
omegathelast replied to Luckee legs's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Sadly, as suspected and warned, the Scottish Government have published the draft legislation which would make ALL lurcher work illegal north of the border. They are adding rabbits to the ban, alongside restricting fox hunting severely. -
BTTT. The Scottish consultation on hunting with dogs (including ratting and rabbiting) closes tomorrow.

Scottish consultation on hunting with dogs

Given the political make-up of Scotland and the deal Sturgeon has done with the Greens, I think there is an even more challenging time ahead, sadly. As I’ve said previously the politically driven ‘review’ of fox hunting is even contemplating making ratting and rabbiting unlawful in Scotland. Imagine that. Thats why I BTTT this thread yesterday as it is time for anyone living in Scotland who values their fieldsports to start engaging in this process, probably starting with the consultation posted at the top of this thread, however flawed it might be. I spoke to someone recent -

Following the positive news in NI today BTTT for the Scottish lads and lasses. -
Looks a cracker…good luck with him ?

I agree it’s critical that anyone involved in field sports has their say. You can see which way this could ultimately go in Scotland by the way the consultation is drafted and the content of the supporting documents.

Wild Camping, Hiking, Back pack, Tent talk, Mini camper etc.......
omegathelast replied to hawki's topic in General Talk
I’ve cooked steaks and fresh stuff when wild-ish motorcycle camping but for the shorter trips I mainly do I do like the convenience of the wayfarer meals on my jetboil. Some of the dehydrated meals like summit to eat are actually better tasting than I expected. Expensive though and some are absolutely rammed with calories! -

NEW DOG SHOW LIST FOR 2022
omegathelast replied to appleblossom's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Really hope your community is mobilising against the current draft legislation banning ALL hunting with dogs in NI with the exception of rats and mice. Sadly the show scene will be a bit hollow if this legislation is passed, at least in its current form. All the best. -
Northern Ireland Hunting Act (Ban)
omegathelast replied to Corkman's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Exactly. Let’s hope the field sports community finally start to stand up and be counted. -
Looks nice, how’s are they bred?
-
This is the way to go about it, there are compelling arguments in support of field sports but the silent majority in this debate need to now stand up and be counted. The people wanting the ban(s) are relentless and it’s time for field sport supporters to do the same. Having listened to interviews Blair doesn’t even really understand what he’s attempting to ban, which is typical. I would also say join the relevant organisations such as the CA and SACS and which ever others you have in NI and tell them what you expect them to do in terms of promoting hunting. Scotland have si

Association Of Working Lurcher/longdogs ( Awl )

It’s a pity something like this didn’t get off the ground properly and credibly. It’s exactly the sort of organisation your sport needs right now. Did the CA get involved? -

RIP Bryn. It’s never easy.

You are right about society but the groups trying to stop people like the original poster doing what he loves are busy stressing to get it stopped, busy lobbying the Government and politicians, busy spreading misinformation. What is sad is they are a vociferous obsessive minority. We all know most people in society don’t care if a Terrier kills a rat or a Whippet catches a rabbit but those traditional activities are now squarely in the sights of those wanting everything banned in Scotland. It will be far more stressful when people are being fined, having dogs confiscated and being labelled ‘ba

I agree with your sentiments about enjoying what you have now and I am sorry to put a bit of a downer on the posts but it could be more like 10months in Scotland, sadly.

And long may it continue…

Surely more of a downer if this season is their last. What a silly comment.

Northern Ireland Hunting Act (Ban)
omegathelast replied to Corkman's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Corkman is absolutely right, apathy and doing nothing is no longer an option if you value traditional rural pastimes and all field sports. Similarly, the Scottish Government is also ‘consulting’ on tightening the ban which would alongside further restricting hunting with hounds, probably also result in ratting and rabbiting becoming unlawful. Yes, you read that right! The only way to combat these attacks is to engage in the debates; write/talk to the politicians and join organisations such as SACS and the CA but tel then why and what you expect from them. They might not be p -
Great images of a day in the countryside humanely harvesting organic meat whilst controlling a pest species in a sustainable way. Sadly, this could well be images of a criminal activity by next season if the greens and Sturgeon get their way. I would urge anyone who values this way of life to engage in the most recent attempt to restrict/ban exempted hunting. They are consulting on, for example, whether or not rabbits and rats should be defined as mammals as part of the legislation which would then mean they form part of the ban. That’s no accident. Doing nothing is no longer an opti

Scottish consultation on hunting with dogs
omegathelast replied to Luckee legs's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Do not underestimate how badly this could end. Lawful/exempted hunting has clearly been caught up in the questionable political (independence) pact between the greens and Stugeon. The potential ramifications alongside the further restrictions on fox control are a total ban on rabbiting and ratting with dogs in Scotland. Following that there’ll be further pressure to do the same South of the border and elsewhere in the UK. If you value what is left of lawful hunting in the UK then engage with this consultation, write to your MSP during this process if you live in Scotland and ideally -
