  2. Man - O – War Dog Show and Race Day held Saturday 25th July 2020. The town land of Man - O - War is set in the shadow of Clay Lake, surrounded by picturesque countryside and sits on the outskirts of Keady, Co Armagh. This was the venue for the annual Man- 0 - War Dog Show and Race Day Saturday 25th July, and what an enjoyable day that was. Saturdays show was to be a very special day for every show goer this year, as finally the long months and lonely days of lockdown were gradually coming to an end and the showing and racing season easing its way in. From early morning, cars and trailers arrived from North and South of the border with dogs in tow. This was a good working dog show and a real treat for all huntsmen and women, before the work in the field creeps over the hill. A Burger van, along with Doggie lead and collar stands were on site. As the show progressed, so did the banter and the craic. The weather held out all day, with the exception of a few showers in late evening. It was a real treat to hear again the sound of barking dogs and childrens laughter echo around the field, bringing back a sense of yesteryear again. The show commenced at approx 1.00pm with racing first. Here are the Racing and Showing results. And Finally, Charlene would like to thank the Judges on the day, Conor Quinn/ Vincey Grimley/ Philip Mc Rory/ Eoin Barnes and Aidy Toal. Judging is not an easy job, but you all carried out your duties to perfection. Photographs were taken on the day and are on Facebook at the moment. Many thanks to Deirdre Mc Coy and Mairead Fearon for same. And Finally Finally, as always I save the best to last. It is fitting that this accolade goes to the host and organiser of the show Charlene Rafferty and her brilliant back up team. Charlene you pulled out all the stops to make this show so successful for everybody on the day, and in the lead up to the show you worked tirelessly with your team to make every part of your show go like clockwork. Well done Charlene, your show was a credit to you and your team. Roll on 2021 for more of the same. Margaret Mc Stay

  4. · FROM THE PEN OF : ALBERT TITTERINGTON SHANES CASTLE GAME FAIR - POSTPONED TO 26th & 27th June 2021 A NEW ‘VIRTUAL FAIR’ FOR THIS YEAR - COMING SOON As many will be aware when Covid struck we put in place contingency plans to postpone the fair planned for Shanes Castle in June. Later, as the pandemic became more serious, we implemented them to plan to run on the 29/30 August. Unfortunately we have now had to take the difficult decision to postpone the Irish Game Fair until NEXT YEAR on 26/27 June 2021. It was a difficult decision to make as we had everything in place: a new layout, a Covid compliant plan right down to branded Game Fair face masks and loads of sanitiser; and a good range of new exhibitors were committed to being there. However, in spite of all that we had done, recent spikes and clusters in the UK and in particular in NI and the ROI created the additional dimension of a greater health risk to visitors’, exhibitors’, competitors’ and staff safety which we felt we could not ignore. I would like to thank a number of people and organisations who worked with us to try to deliver the 2020 fair. These include: Jim Shannon, MP who took our case to the highest level in government; our hosts the Rt Hon Shane O’Neill at Shanes Castle and staff at Antrim & Newtownabbey Council; our contractors; event organisers and entertainers; our sponsors and exhibitors; and last but not least our Great Game Fairs of Ireland team who invested a great deal of time and money making plans and then amending them. Part of our contingency planning was that if we had to postpone the fair until 2021 we would run a VIRTUAL GAME FAIR in 2020. It’s a BRAND NEW CONCEPT - and you will hear a lot more very soon as the site is designed and currently being built. Our VIRTUAL GAME FAIR 2020 will open for business at www.thevirtualgamefair.com on the 29th & 30th August 2020. The Virtual Game Fair will run throughout the year 24/7 with an exciting mix of exhibitors, competitions and bargains galore. The slogan will be ‘The Game Fair you can visit every day’ See the upcoming Autumn issue of Irish Country Sports and Country Life and this group for more news! 12. The North West Terrier,Lurcher and Whippet Club ( Barry Hollands Show ) Sunday 15th March 2020 As the saying goes Spring has Sprung, and with the work in field complete , the time had arrived for to start the Dog Show and Racing season for 2020. Although the dreaded Corona Virus hung over our canine community, it was good to get away from the long dreary winter days, and head to the first Dog Show of the year. The venue for the day was beautiful Barrentop Fun Farm, Donemana, Co Tyrone. Although it was icy cold, it kept mostly dry with the exception of a few light showers. As this was the first show of the year, our loyal Canine Community came out in force to support this great event. There was a big turn out of Terriers, Lurchers, Whippets, Pets and Strong dogs. Rings were well spaced out, a good racing track, and plenty of hand sanitizer on site. As usual, the raffle generated a flurry of excitement, with armfuls of goodies up for grabs. And I can tell you no one was disappointed. Showing started at approximately 1oclock, and was quickly followed by the Racing. Here are the Showing Results. A special word of thanks to George Mc Garell, owner of beautiful scenic Barrentop Fun Farm for this prime show venue. You gave the show an excellent venue, and of that we are truly grateful. And Finally, Finally, None of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication behind the scenes of Barry Holland/John Shaw and Colin Maguire. Along with your brilliant committee, Eimear Maguire/Nikyla and Stacy Love and helpers, you worked tirelessly to make this show an overwhelming success in these trying times. What a great start to the summer showing and racing season. Barry,John and Colin, when we are out in the field in the snow and rain with our faithful Canine companions, we will look back with fond memories at this day back in March we spent at Barrentop at the North West Lurcher/ Terrier and Whippet Club first show of 2020. Thanks for the memory and I am already looking forward to your next show in August for more of the same. Margaret Mc Stay

  22. Mid and East Antrim ClubChristmas Dog Show at Ballee Playing Fields,Ballymena, Sunday 8th of December 19 Showing dogs is a very traditional and sporting activity for many dog owners, and Sunday the 8th of December 19 was no different in the canine world. Despite the terrible weather conditions, with continous wind and rain all day, the great men, women, and children of the canine community came out in strength for a great days showing and festivities at the Mid and East Antrim Christmas dog show. This annual occasion is a special family get together for all like minded enthusiasts, and is a welcome break for the male species to get away from the trials and tribulations of Christmas shopping leading up to the festive season. Christmas is a very happy time, but it also can be a very sad and lonely time. This festive day out before Christmas helps lift the mantle, brings cheer in abundance, and enables us to leave our cares behind, and learn to smile again, if only for a day. Denver Mc Meekan was there in full swing providing plenty of delicious hot food, with some very tasty burgers and soup, and all very welcome on a cold winters day. As usual the raffle generated a lot of excitement in the air with really good prizes on offer. The craic and the banter was hilarious as each number was called out. Some happy campers going home with some nice prizes. What a lovely gesture for the little people. They were were delighted with them. It was nice to see the smile on their little faces going out of the ring with their we gift boxes. And Finally, Finally,, none of this would be possible without the hard work and attention to detail of Chontelle Mc Meekan and Mark Mc Callion. Although we were not blessed with good weather, this show was a resounding success. Many thanks Chontelle and Mark for a great sporting day out, and I look forward to more of the same in 2020. ***To finish this year off, May I take this opportunity to wish all my friends in the Canine world North and South of the border and further afield, A Very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year, and God willing I will meet up with you all again in 2020*** Margaret Mc Stay
