  3. Armagh Sporting Dog Supreme Bends Racing Championships and Showing Sunday 4th November 18. Situated in the shadow of the rippling waters of Lough Neagh, lies the now famous Feabridge Racing Track at Coalisland. This haven of history was the venue for Armagh Sporting Dog Supreme Bends Racing Championships and Showing Sunday 4thNovember 18. And what a day of fun, frolics, good humour and friendship that was. The night before the show, the heavens opened and the rain lashed down all night , but as a new day dawned on Feaghbridge , there was not a drop of rain in sight and the ground was in good condition. A good turnout was expected and we certainly were not disappointed. From ten o clock onwards cars and trailers began to converge on the car park at Feaghbridge, all loaded with dogs and families in tow. It was an experience and a first for me, to watch all dogs been weighed before racing and placed to run according to their weight. I must say I was very impressed with the routine, and may be worth thinking about for future racing days. Seemed very fair to me. Some folk travelled long distances to be part of this sporting event. Gary Farmer and Geraint Kelly Woolcock travelled from England and Liam and Conor Nolan from Roscrea in County Tipperary. Before Liam went home he gave me a handful of tickets for the Raffle. This certainly put a smile on my husband Johns face. The Raffle is always the highlight of his day. Thank you Liam for your kindness. I won a nice bottle of red wine with your tickets and thank you for your generosity. Kieran Neeson from Donegal was back in action again showing and racing his dogs after his motor bike accident. Kieran is making steady progress back to health. Great to see you on the move again Kieran, and I enjoyed the catch up. The Racing commenced at approximately 12noon followed by Showing. As the shades of night started falling and the air became icy, with racing and showing over, we headed back to the club house, where James O Neill had stoked up a well lit hearth fire. Some liquid beverages were consumed along with some good conversation around the open fire. And Finally, Fiona has asked me to thank her sponsors: Ben Wagstaff and Kirsty Brunt /Joe Leonard/Charlene Martin/Susan Mc Cann/Simon Irwin and Kieran Young, for their generosity and support to her show. A special word of thanks to Claire and Darren Smith for judging, and also for their help and expertise with the very successful bends racing. And Finally, Finally, what can I say about this young lady. Yes I have left this accolade for you Fiona Devlin. Along with your partner Conor Mc Cormack you put your heart and soul into this show and raceday and pulled it off 100%. You ventured down the road of weighing for racing with meticulous planning and proved a roaring success. The feed back has been glorious in every sense of the word. Your show was a credit to you. Simply the Best. Thank you for another very enjoyable show and raceday and we look forward to more of the same in 2019. Margaret Mc Stay

  8. Mickey Quinns Charity Champion of Champions Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 19thAugust 18 Located in the lap of Orchard Country and surrounded by a patchwork of apple orchards and green fields lies the prestigious Anaghmore Race track. This was the venue for Mickey Quinns Charity Champion of Champions Dog Show and Race Day in aid of Autism Sunday 19thAugust 2018. This show was well supported from North and South of the border. From early morning dogs, trailers, children, and families began to arrive with one thing in mind, to be part of this worthy charity dog show in aid of Autism and go home with a nice trophy for winning The Champion of Champions and qualify for Shanes Castle 2019. The weather was kind to us and kept up well, with just a few spots of rain early in the day. The show got under way at approx 12.30. Here are the Overall Showing Results. Childrens Handling Class : Judge Margaret Mc Stay Well done to Brooke Rafferty, the very worthy winner of the childrens handling class. It was nice to see so many children taking part in the showing. Keep up the good work. You are the show organisers and competition winners of tomorrow, and you will keep the sport going long after we all have gone way beyond the rainbow bridge. Mickey Quinn had a beautiful shield for the winner Brooke Rafferty, and every single child in the ring also went home with a lovely trophy for taking part. Well done to all. Here are the results of the Showing : Ladies Handling Class Lisa Beggs with Joker ( Judged by : Mr Aj Titterington) Gents Handling Class Billy Kerry with Snowball ( Judged by: A lady from the Autism Society) Albert Titterington awarded everybody in the ring that took part in the ladies and Gents handling classes a free ticket for Shanes Castle 2019. There was a very poignant and sad moment at Sundays show, when the partner and brother of the late Declan Jordan, an avid whippet man, donated and presented a Shield to the Champion Whippet winner Fiona Devlin in memory of Declan who passed away as result of a motorbike accident a few months ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with his partner and family at this very sad time in their lives. Very soon it was raffle time and always guaranteed to generate a flurry of excitement around the place. Some happy campers going home from there. And Finally, what this show was all about. Autism changes the way people communicate and experience the world around them. Every autistic person is different. Some are able to learn, live and work independently but many have learning differences or co-occurring health conditions that require specialist support. Mickey Quinn from lurgan set out last Sunday, with the support of the good people of the Canine Community to raise funds to help make life a little more comfortable in some small way, by raising funds from the proceeds of his charity dog show for people suffering from Autism. And this Mickey done in big measure, along with Tom Barry, Michael Quinn junior, and a brilliant back up team, by raising £1450, and was handed over to the Autism Society on the day in full view of everybody at the show. Mickey, what an achievement, and what a substantial amount of money to raise from the large turnout at your charity show. Well done Mickey and your backup team. You all done a wonderful job honest and true. And Finally, A big thank you to the judges on the day. Your judging was impeccable and carried out with precision and fairness. With so many dogs in each class, a hard days work was carried out by all and a job well done. It was nice to see the King of the Castle himself Albertj Titterington at the show and on the judging panel on Sunday. Albert is a true sportsman and supports so many shows North and South of the border during the year. At this stage Mickey Quinn would like me to thank all the sponsors who contributed to the success of his show, you know who you are. Your sponsorship was so much appreciated. And Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank Mickey Quinn, Tom Barry and Michael Quinn junior for a great days enjoyment, and a brilliant show day. I know you and your team have been working tirelessly behind the scenes for weeks now, just to make last Sunday a successful and enjoyable day out for everyone. Without your hard work and dedication none of this would happen. It is also nice to know that Autism Society will benefit from your input and hard graft. A great day and a great show, and I am already looking forward to next years Charity Show and your Race Day. This was a truly brilliant Championship Dog Show, a great family day out, and a day to remember. Well done Mickey and team. Margaret Mc Stay LikeShow More Reactions

  10. Tully Castle Dog Show Saturday 11thAugust 18 Tully Castle lies on the hill overlooking the west shore of Lower Lough Erne, with the waters edge flapping around the perimeter of the Castle grounds. This impressive Castle is the remains of a fortified house and bawn, and is set on beautiful Tully Point. This beautiful backdrop was the venue for Tully Castle Festival and Dog Show Saturday 11thAugust 18. The weather was very kind to us all day, and as the Churchill Brass Band played in the background, this added to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the Festival. There was a nice crowd of people there, all out for a days enjoyment among family and friends. The Festival commenced at 1.00pm, and very soon the grounds of the Castle had filled up with young and old, all out enjoying the fun and frolics of this annual festival. There was Bouncy Castles for the children, and many stands for the grown ups to browse around and take some bargains home. The Dog Show began at 2.00pm. Here are the showing Results. Thank you for that Norma, everything went without a hitch. A few very important ladies who helped in and out of the ring : Nicola Heap/Sue Hogg/Florence Corrigan and Carol Robinson. You all done a wonderful job ladies and it was a pleasure for John and Myself to work along side you all. And Finally, Finally, a special word of thanks to Scott Fallis and Wesley Scott, and your brilliant back up team. 11. Sporting Whippet Club NI Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 5THAugust 18. Sitting on the outskirts of the bustling town of Ballymena is Ballee Playing Fields. This superb location with its well maintained lawns was the venue for the 4th Sporting Whippet Club NI Sunday the 5thAugust 18. As the sun broke through the clouds, it was evident another great day was on the cards for the Sporting Whippet Club NI. From 10.30am onwards the good canine folk, both from inside and outside the whippet club began arriving in the field, all kitted out for another good day of racing and showing. And that was what was delivered on the day. The childrens slipping race was a big attraction on Sunday, and really brought out the umph in these young slippers. Our young sporting girls and boys are our Country Sports people of tomorrow, so let them walk in our footsteps, if only for a little while. And taking those steps, they certainly showed the grown ups how to slip a dog. The racing heats started at approximately 12.00pm, followed by the showing, with the finals ran after the showing. 12. Gene Gallaghers Dog Show and Race Day at Sligo Agricultural Show, Grange, Co Sligo Saturday 4thAugust 18. Located in the scenic valley between Ben Bulben mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, lies the village of Grange, Co Sligo. This was the venue for Gene Gallaghers Dog Show and Race Day Saturday 4thAugust 18. As we arrived early, with the dog show being part of the Agriculture Show, we had time for a walk through the stands and soak up the Carnival buzz that was ozzing out across the Sligo Countryside. The craic and the banter was brilliant, and the atmosphere was electric. Every Agricultural animal you could mention was on show. Cows, sheep, horses, various stands, water bubbles, bouncy Castles, water slides for the children, and many more attractions on offer to many to mention. Time passes so quickly, it was soon time to head back to the dog show on site. Although the crowd was small, there was a good turnout of dogs, especially in the Terrier ring. 13. Tullylish Working Terrier Club Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 29thJuly 18 Deep in the heart of the picturesque County Down countryside, with its magnificent scenery, lies the beautiful town land of Tullylish. This picturesque setting sits on the River Bann, and contains the villages of Gilford, Laurencetown, and Bleary. This was the venue for the Tullylish Working Terrier Club Dog Show and Race day Sunday 29thJuly 18. For a day that started raining down in buckets in other parts of Northern Ireland, Tullylish did not have a drop of rain. We were blessed with the weather for a change, and the Gods were definately looking down on us. The sun shone all day as the Canine men, women and their little folk arrived in force with their prized Canine crew in tow. From my own observation, over the past couple of years our doggie shows have become real family days out, and Sunday was no different. This was very evident by the turnout on the day, of how popular this annual event is. There was just a lovely homely atmosphere, good craic, and a few chin whacks with the good folk of the Canine community. This is what our dog shows are about, and this did happen at Tullylish last Sunday. This year there were five show rings which was brilliant thinking by the club. It brought in Terrier/Lurcher/Whippet/Bull Cross/ and Strong dog men and women from all parts of the country. Every year this show goes from strength to strength, and this year was no different. There was a burger and ice cream van on site. Little Riley Mc Cormack and Mairead Fearons two little boys, Thomas and Ruairi and Heidi Mc Alinden had a ball between the burger van and ice cream van. These little people are our huntsmen and women of to morrow, so we need to take care of them at our shows and lead by example. They are four we characters in their own right and lovely children. They just play around all day and give nobody any trouble. Some tired we people on Sunday night. There was a good turnout of Terriers/Lurchers/Whippets/Bull Cross and Strong Dogs. With the five rings on the go, Tullylish Dog show was certainly buzzing with the sound of barking dogs. Time passes so quickly, it was soon time to start on the menu for the day.The coursing started at approx 12.00 noon, followed by the showing and straight racing afterwards. Here are the Results. And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. Yes John Barry and Paul Mc Alinden, you and your back up team are simply the best. You run your show with impeccable organisation and skill. It was very evident a lot of preparation went on behind the scenes to make this show a most enjoyable day for everyone. All events went without a hitch, and some very happy people went home with another nice trophy for the mantle piece. John and Paul, you are both two gentlemen, and honest and true sportsmen. Thank you both, and the Tullylish Working Terrier Club for another top class show this year, and hopefully we can enjoy more of the same again in 2019. Margaret Mc Stay
