  1. What a shitter My beddy cross lived until she was 14 1/2 so I feel for your mate. I have read about some beddy strains carrying defective genes but I dont know enough about it to comment.
  2. I do actually understand how frustrating it can be if you love your working dogs and do not have permission and accept that a 'mouch' seems innocent enough. I still say you should try and try again because if you go about it in the right way you will eventually get some and once you get one it is so much easier to get more or try and get out with some lads that have some land. Whilst it might be an innocent mooch, you are probably tramping on land where some one has permission or shooting rights. If you have some permission you won't get tarred with the same brush as the minority of idiots t
  3. Well I now know exactly why myself and friends left the sport some years ago. Some of the posts on this thread are an absolute disgrace and confirm that predudice against the Lurcher owner and the sport is actually wholly justified as a result of the irresponsible and selfish actions of some. The keepers, police, wildlife crime officers and general public are seemingly right. It is very sad. It would seem many would clearly rather creep around like petty, slippy and cowardly criminals than be mature and man enough to do the right thing. The sport is finished. Let me tell you about those he
  4. That is called Poaching. It is also clearly unlawful under the terms of the Hunting Act as you did not have the permission of the landowner. The presence of a footpath means you have the right to pass and re-pass, nothing more, nothing less. Perhaps worse is the irreparable damage actions like this do to legitimate lurcherwork/ferreting. A couple of my mates have permission around that area and there are some lads who PAY to shoot on certain farms in that valley. The fact that some people have spent over 20 years gaining the trust of landowners in the Dales who are now understandably sick
  5. Lovely pup, no doubt she will do you proud. My friend also has a 5/8 3/8th Hancock and he is well pleased with her to date...
  6. I think he is called 'Acid' I dont know the dog. And thanks to everyone for their positive comments, I am glad you enjoyed the little report on my team
  7. Sorry to hear that. I lost my old girl in June so I know how it feels. RIP Duke.
  8. I say do the right thing and give the poor dog a chance, spend some time bringing it on and be very proud if you are successful.
  9. I agree with this. Alternatively you wont go wrong with a first cross Collie greyhound (I do like some of the Hancock Border and beardie1st x's) or even a Bedlington greyhound like my old girl. She was 24 tts, had a lovely temperament once she matured and was a very handy worker
  10. I would have said anywhere you have permission. My friend has some land up there and it has been difficult for quite a few years, precisely because of people wandering across land with hoards of dogs without permission. If you ask around you will probably get some permission, then you can mouch wherever you like
  11. As promised here is a little update on Celts progress. I spent a large part of the last year trying to make sure he had a good standard of basic training, particularly with him being a dog as I have only ever kept bitches previously and I did contemplate him being a bit more headstrong and less compliant. Overall, however, he has trained up very well; his recall is superb, he obeys various commands to clicks and hand signals and his retrieving of inanimate objects was spot on. Alongside this we indulged the inevitable mooching which he started alongside my old girl Twig - RIP - who taught him
  12. Moll - I actually agree with that, to an extent. What I simply can not get my head around is the high % bull cross devil dogs I see dragging their owners around, or what these dogs are being bred for? I know for a Fact the wildlife crime intelligence units think they know what they are for and as I have said before Lurcher work was previously seen as more of an irritation to Wildlife crime groups, now it is associated with the worst aspects of wildlife crime and firmly on their radar. Incidentally, I dont hate anything, I just worry for the (lack of) future of the respectable and acceptabl
  13. Nice litter, good cross. Good luck with them
  14. Myself and a friend went today and we both thought it was a good day out. We both managed a couple of genuine bargains (haggle haggle haggle!!) and the terrier/lurcher event was refreshigly absent of the moronic element..hopefully it will also be like that tomorrow. It was lovely to see the hounds there in forcer too
  15. I bet Mr Hancock wishes he had a tenner for every post on here relating to his kennels, or posts on other sites for that matter. My views are fairly simple and based on seeing a few over the years; if you are looking for a decent collie lurcher and you want to be sure of what you are getting then they are worth a look. Also, given the legal restrictions on hunting a collie cross is, in my view, ideal. I think people over-estimate the 'worker to worker' or 'superdog x terminator' lurcher x lurcher matings which can themselves be problematic and I despise the bull cross fashion which is the
  16. This makes me F***ing sick. They want F***ing hanging. I really hope you get he back mate. I will keep my eye out and ask around as I ain't a million miles away.
  17. Smart dogs lads, you are both obviously proud. Good luck to you...
