Thank you all so much for your kind words. I already have another pup - Twigs apprentice - photo of them both together....

My beautiful and much loved Twig is now chasing rabbits and hares in the sky. Rest in peace, you will never be forgotten. I have had a terrible few days watching my 14year old bedlington/greyhound cross lurcher detiriorate rapidy resulting in her being put to sleep yesterday. In her prime she was a great rabbiting dog, daytime and nightime, but most of all a real character and a loved and faithful companion through thick and thin.. Hope the upload works. RIP Twig x

looks like a fine dog to me mate. Cheers bud, he has filled out nicely and is quick, faster than I expected even, so hopefully this year will see him do good. He`s clever enough for sure. He looks superb

Absolutely spot on guys, without them life would be twice as hard when things go wrong. All the best.

If you are looking for one now and can't find anything suitable, I would take a look at a Hancock. Personally I think some of the border half crosses in particular look fine, in fact some look great. There have been many good working Hancock's over the years and you will know exactly what you are getting. The do take some pride in what they do and even though I personally have a bit of difficulty with the ethics of commercial dog breeding I think they offer decent collie lurchers. My freind has a lovely 5/8ths 3/8ths beardie border pup and she is coming along fine, is well put together physica

Good result. The current hunting ban situation in England is ludicrous - a friend of mine has had...wait for it!....FOUR farmers where he has permission and next to his permission, begging him to go down with terriers as they have ALL lost lambs. If he did that would, of course, be breaking the daft law as there arent any pheasants on the land, so he can't.

what cross do you dislike & why ?
omegathelast replied to dai dogs's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I agree Salukiman but its not just the anti's, I couldnt give a shite about them to be honest, its the Wildlife Crime Intelligence people who, rightly, are now looking at the Lurcher and associated crime and they see the bull crosses as a big part of that. Unfortunately though we potentially all get tarred with the same brush even though 90% of Lurcher people are decent law abiding, countryside loving people. -

sorry i disagree lurchermen have always been on the radar i dont think you can blame just the bull x for all the heat we now get i think you can blame the media for that there just as interested in hare coursers with there salukis x and you cant say its just bullx owners who are stealing from farms etc or leaving deer carcasses at the side of the road yes i do agree the cross does have a clown following but doesnt all crosses and any dog thats that badly scarred up then they should be left at home like any dog should be be it bullx or terrier Unfortunately you are wrong. For work and from my experience, Saluki crosses. My uncle got talked into buying one years ago when we were out working our collie crosses on a very regular basis. The dog would catch ok, albeit being a bit cumbersome over rough ground and short distances, would then proceed to bite the rabbit in half and then do about 20 laps of honour with the minced rabbit, scaring everything else off in the distance, especially if we were lamping. It came back "when its ready" and was, to be fair, thick as a stump. It was a lovely animal but we just could'nt get it to work half as good as the collie crosse -
............Maybe some pics of workers/adults might be useful for this thread?

Hope you get her back. I hope shes just wandered off and comes back. All the best with your search, it makes me feel sick to think people will steal someones elses dog.

This debate will run and run but the suggestion that it is only inexperienced hunters that will buy a Hancock is total nonsense. On the contrary, a thinking man or woman who is looking for a pup of this type of breeding wouldnt find it difficult to choose a Hancock in the absence of anything else being available and in particular might chose a 5/8ths 3/8ths which was once considered the thinking mans working lurcher cross. Not everyone wants to 'just slip it' so are looking for the inherited intelligence and trainability of working Beardie or Border blood, whilst the hearding instincts cle

I had a Lanber sport OU multichoke some years back, I know very little about guns but it was used a lot for rabbit and rough shooting and was fine. It was a nice looking well made bit of kit and the multichoke made it versatile too. Hope that helps.

would your dog return to you mid course?
omegathelast replied to Lukehunt's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Lets be honest a lot of lurcher men are so bad at training their dogs they dont even come back when they are out for a walk never mind running a rabbit "just slip it" seen them come and go......... -

Most wont but I had a beardie cross bitch that was very intelligent and completely biddable and could be called off. She was no jacker. RIP Tess. -
