  1. My bull x expired in my arms in the vets yesterday. No idea why he had been fine, and only that morning had been around the lambing fields for a walk with the shotgun at first light. As a running dog he was far from what most people would want, but as a mugger of game and vermin he rarely let me down. He lies down deep in the back field, beneath where the roe deer lie up in the summer. Unreplaceable.
  2. pinned topic at the top of the page http://www.awll.co.uk/wp/
  3. We have not excluded any individual members however we accept it's not for everyone and we can not and will condone any actions or person whom do not conduct themselves within the ethos and values of the AWL. But you will happily turn a blind eye, under certain circumstances...........
  4. The members have to agree to the terms of the code of conduct. If they are found guilty of breeching them, the club will not be able to defend that member; is how it was described. That does not exclude people for wanting to be involved with an association who's premise is to defend and promote the role of the working lurcher/longdog.
  5. With all due respect Fuji, You are a none conformist, I doubt a club would suit Your way of life, not the constraints of a code of conduct, enjoy Your journey. The AWLL is not a club. It is an association for working lurchers and longdogs. Fuji works both it is his decision to join or not. And I'm sure you would happily accept his membership fee if he did. Or are you selecting who you deem suitable to join?
  6. thats understandable.......
  7. And very hard to see at nighttime. For us or them ?Us. They just have to look for the big shiny light
  8. SO they class guns alongside tabacco's and adult products and in light of the current acceptability are not allowing there presence due to public acceptability. Yet they are having a "beer garden", So encouraging potential drink driving which isn't acceptable and illegal. Anyone who is going, and shoots should take their gun in its slip.
  9. we if there was a national body for lurcher work.....................
  10. I've a few old style ones, but this takes some beating http://toolmonger.com/2007/09/10/gerbers-brush-thinner-machete/
  11. For a saluki x, that has a nice amount of substance to it
  12. your baits not had a bite in along time, Mr wooden spoon
  13. It sounds dank. Section it up with dry banks and open ditches. Plant willow and alder to bind the base of the banks. MIxed with blackthorn you can then lay them into nice tight hedges that can be harvested for fire wood over the years. Great cover and wildlife habitat. Drop in a few artificials if you want, but to be honest, if you build it they will come. Run ditches to a central large pond, and stock it with a few fish. Give it 5/6 years you can have a few runs, a few digs, flighting duck, fishing and a nice open fire to come home to. Works for me
  14. now those are my kind of soldiers
  15. My sister-in-law has just agreed to have one. It's on its way over as we speak. It's coming here for a bit of stock training, I suspect it may be emotional!
  16. I use a collie x Beddie/whippet to work cover in boggy woodland, moorland fringes. Between that and a collie yapping they are more than capable of finding in the tightest scrub or marshy read beds But it can get messy
  17. I wouldnt dig that deep for all the terriers in Yorkshire. Get a pump in it and feed the house! but seriously, grand job. Buying your own place with special needs can be a life affirming project!
  18. I look after my sisters JR when she is on holiday. Sent her this, just to show he was safe and sound.
  19. A dog that catches game using speed and guile.
  20. True words indeed. My bull x, that is on this thread, is out 3 hours min a day mouching. But when required to do a long night on the lamp, he will burn out very quickly. When I require more prolonged work from him, he is best off running a few pound heavier to keep that tank topped up.
  21. Carrying a bit of summer fat in the first, early season in the second.
