    My Bedlingtons graft and are bred from many generations of grafters,the main dogs here would hold company with any fox working terrier and would hold their own in said company.Their versatility makes them also useful on top ratching about and i see a bit of rabbiting,ratting etc. as part and parcel of their hunting lifestyle.If they are not suited to work below,as is the want of the majority of Bedlingtons,id not feed them.As i stated earlier the best thing i did with a very good red Fell was to put the Bedlington over her and ive a few generations of the mutts that all graft with the same det

    I spent nearly the entire ,s with lurchers that had no "given" blood in their lineage and mutts that where bred from honest lineages the better respected kennels would have loved to have dipped into.In that era the best of lurchers,even Saluki hybrids,were better represented,in the field,by more honest mutts than are available today.The chance of sourcing a decent lurcher in the early ,s would serve better reward than attempting to source the same today.As the ,s grew into the 90,s the name became the focal point of the breeding and not what the breeding offered.Id love to travel back to Lambo

    I got them both home after a quick drive from Nelson and carried them to a warren at the back of my house with the Akita,Lakey and 2 Bedlingtons in tow,i only had to twat the Lakey with my toe end to learn it another lesson that Lakey,s fail to learn,its in their nature.Their bold nature was evident straight away and the attention of the adult dogs never fazed them in the least,i spent an hour walking a quarter of a mile and the next 999 hours i spend educating 1 of them will decide its working fate.

    The average lurcher owner could not plan a booze up in a brewery,getting the same folk to plan a wedding is the reason so much Collie dross is bred and the reliance on the Collie puppy farmer.Totally concur P the initial litter is the first step to Nirvana and Nirvana cannot be reached without a Collie on the first,4th,and 8th rung of the ladder.

    The greatest respect you can often bestow upon a working mutt is to cull it when the time arises,the dog seldom ends up in an environment that befits it.Many a soul as striven for a decent retirement home for a prized jukel to later find the dog as suffered a piss poor fate.Retire it at home or cull is the best thing for the majority of mutts.

    I keep reading about the ban,the hunting act etc. and its makes no difference to some.Hows the early retirement going mucker?.Ive been nearly retired for a year,only because ive found it almost impossible to find something thats worth bringing me out of my doldrums,picked a pup up for my lad today and ended up bringing another home that stirred my emotions a couple of weeks back.Its not my jukel of choice yet its Irish terrier heritage is going to get grafted and the folk that fail to fight our cause will have little input into how the mutt progresses.

    Its an influence that once had a massive influence on the grafting aptitude of many a terrier in the Fells and Dales,putting a decent Beddy back into the breeding can agitate something thats not been stirred for many a generation.I rate the Beddy/Fell combo,possibly because i prize,highly,the working ethos this mix brings to the field.
