  1. Ive a lurcher dog 14 month old that to look at,as seen some serious quarry,in some peoples eyes, truth be known he hit a fence and fights with his sister.
  2. common sense would tell anyone contemplating running a dog to never ever run it where there is a chance,no matter how slight,of the dog running into obstacles.Im now looking for a 200 acre lawn with padded fences at the edge.
  3. I think the lads short of a bit of attention, why does'nt somebody go round and give him a cuddle, ive no motor at the mo,so that rules me out.
  4. Years of selective breeding, stamina and brains in abundance, excellent feet and conformation, biddable and easily trained, what other dog as as much to offer as the Working Collie?.
  5. As young dogs mine are worked of a slip,as they learn the job they are worked at heel, after a bit more training they run only what i want them to,its not difficult to educate a dog when and when not to run.
  6. If i had a dog that cocked,id use on something else,if a dog carried an injury that ended its days in the field, then it would be p.t.s.I would'nt have a dog taking up kennel space that could not be used in the field, some of the more responsible owners, who care the most for their dogs,do at times have to face this choice.Ive attempted re-homing in the past and seen a much loved dog being abused and ill treated, never again.
  7. Its ok to wait for the perfect conditions, but you will miss most of the season that way.
  8. A lot of the top canary breeders with decades of experience, often get the sexing wrong,on the bright side everybody as a 50% chance of getting it right.
  9. Some dogs don't have the knack when it comes to turning, some will adapt their running and turning style with experience in the field, the ground as a lot of bearing on the dogs ability to turn,as the dog matures and becomes more experienced it should settle down and you will probably see the improvements.
  10. Forget about running it at quarry until its used to you,you know its faults and rectify them[stock breaking, return on command, retrieving etc.]Get its fitness up,when all this as been achieved then start bunny bashing for a few months, before you move on to other things.
  11. If its a large tear, then a trip to the vets, small nicks and cuts want treating at home, don,t you know any dog men about?,especially terrier lads, who could give you some education with small wounds.
  12. It will all depend on what you want the dog for, there are a few decent working types about.Ask to see the parents working,if the owner is unwilling then walk away and look elsewhere,to many Beddys about bred out of sh..te and advertised as workers.Do your homework, the versatility of the Beddy is hard to match elsewhere.
  13. Id agree with most of that,i do like them ferreting as i find it settles a dog down and learns them patience in the field.
  14. Its not rocket science,is it?,he's obviously got a source of profit somewhere.
  15. ! dog on lamp?,must have been a Collie x.
  16. Not nice to hear, but most probably true, taking the hounds will possibly lead to the scum being fronted, hope this as an happy outcome, good luck.
  17. At 15 month old i would like to see all the basics in place, stockbroken, retrieving, basic commands, few runs and catches. But its still relatively young and should quickly come up to spec, with a bit of time and effort.
  18. Potato peelers and chopsticks, must have been an Irish chinky, was the dog called Lucky?.
  19. Invite them on your permission, after meeting them and determining their suitability, then take it from there.
  20. I buy the CMW on a regular basis, the snobbery by some of the authors is always good for a laugh, there are some decent shooting and fishing articles, even though i don't shoot. The advertisements are sometimes f****ng hilarious. The lurcher and terrier articles are mostly total drivel, apart from P.T.,her articles are written from genuine experience in the field, all except the one about the colour of Lurcher pups, must have had an hangover writing that one.Its not the best mag about, but for a couple of quid it passes an afternoon at work.
  21. I owned a Saluki/Grey x Old English,if i remember correctly it was bred out of Warwickshire, about 1984?.The dog did have an unusual gait, but was deadly on hares and fox.Stood 29" and always looked underfed. The dog would not break to sheep no matter the punishment, that was his downfall.
  22. Driving the land won't stop no matter what opinions are expressed, its a quick getaway, and saves lugging stuff about,i don,t condone it and don,t do it anymore,i always found it was more suited to the lazy baskets and the damage caused,by the mindless minority, was'nt done it the name of hunting, but malicious mischief.A lot of land can be successfully driven on without causing damage, but that way of driving would defeat the main purpose of the idiot few.
  23. Ive still an old Wipac lamp i made,25 years ago.Still use it,i would'nt go back to acid battery's though, still got old scars from acid burns.
  24. If the pups turn out 1/2 as good as the ego of the breeder, then you will have some dog.
