Early 's i ran a 1/2 cross for a while, lacked pace and wanted to scrap all the time, ended up giving it to a terrierman, whos work better suited the dog.

Flowers inn,Bacup.OL13 9UA,decent show plenty of Beddys this year.

I dont think its a case of 2 pheasants, its about a numpty who went seeking a bit of attention for himself, all the usual ignorant, baseless sh**e and drivel then ensued. If he had done what most lads with a modicum of intelligence and self respect, would have done and kept it to himself, then none of this would have come about.Utter total sh**e like this burns bridges and only the feckless, ignorant elements in society benefit, because they never have and never will face up to any sort of resposibility.

Any poor quality Borders about will not be farm dogs, only the elite of the breed make it as working dogs, these are the ones that should be utilised in any lurcher breeding.Having to use inferior type Collies is a sure sign of second rate breeding.
-
There,s more good than bad in most hunters, its just the mindless morons are more than happy to broadcast the fact to as wide an audience as possible,in the lurcher fraternity.

top p****er,forgot the *lonk*.

Had a look on Monday, weather probably to blame for poor attendance, terrier and lurcher classes low on numbers, not much to look at or see, except the Kites,i could have sat in Otley and watched them and saved £8,won't be going back.

The most versatile of terrier breeds, source working and not KC bred, for the greatest chance of success in the field.

I live local and have not heard anything about all this,id have thought the local press may have picked up on it.

Some odd litters about lately, some will possibly make useful workmates, but £300 a pup will put people off trying them.

Probably because i did'nt know the cause, the dog was itching and watered down ascabiol soothes and stops itching, plus it worked and if the same happens again ill repeat the procedure.I have a tendency to use ascabiol, watered down,if i suspect scabies, better to be safe than wait and see.

An import from America will be show bred,a lot of people with KC bred stuff say they work, rats and rabbits are no yardstick for a genuine working terrier, there are working type Beddys about,Visit the Working Bedlington Forum,or get a KC bred one and just pretend.

Ihad this problem last week,i found out the farmer had been putting weedkiller down on his hay meadows,i washed the dogs down and rubbed watered down Ascabiol into their skin, this seemed to cure the problem,it was strange as only 1 terrier and one lurcher showed symptons,4 dogs did'nt.

Do you mention poodles tongue in cheek in the context of a Beddy post Topper?.
-
Would that be based on experience of the breed?,or the usual ignorance?. well said i have a beddy bitch rilliton, gouchcommen and she is the best little worker i have ever had.till she done har back in still likes to get out tho and flush rabbits for the lurcher. George Newcombe did from time to time introduce a bit of Border terrier blood into his stock as he said it was difficult to find what he wanted in some of the bedlingtons at the time. he put the border into it to stop the dogs getting the liver disease that beddlingtons get well my theory is based on this, how many

Decent Greyhound base,a mixture of working hill Collie and Deerhound, lurcher to lurcher breeding to balance out the breed.

I find that a pup bred from working lines, preferably going back several generations,in the correct hands, will usually make the grade.A bit of luck helps things along,a bit of bad luck can play havoc with the pups progress.
-
Possibly because that type of lurcher suits the owners hunting requirements, also some people are willing to put the time and trouble into sourcing stock from a working background with a proven history in the field.Others will take whatever comes easiest and complain about the end result.

the dogs that looked and felt like they work? just bye touch alone how can you tell a dog works when you judge it in the middle of summer? do you know a secret I dont? some kind of wart or mole given to workers by the lord? An adult lurcher that as seen acouple of seasons work, especially bull crosses, will normally carry a certain amount of wear and tear, some a little over obvious.A dog underweight, out of condition, flat footed with long toenails, full of fleas and worms are another clue.A dog in good condition, showing signs of a working life, being held by an owner who comes out with the ri

The main trouble with judging a show is all the entrants genuinely believe their dog was better than the winner, then all the bitching starts.ive judged a few lurchers and the biggest problem i found was the poor condition of a lot of the dogs,no matter what they looked like from outside the ring.I judged Blanchland a couple of years ago and was disgusted with the condition of some,i gave the best in show to Church's bullcross,i don't like bullcrosses but on the day itwas that or a little rough bitch,i really would have liked to have given the shield to the little one,but i went with what i tho

do you think the ban will ever get lifted
morton replied to maitland93's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If the hunting community could ever get organised and stand as one, then there would be a good chance of having the ban lifted,as that will never happen and because of the neanderthals, usually with lurchers, giving the police and antis all the ammo they need to keep the ban in place,i think the ban will stand as far as lurchers and terriers go,it will be tweaked to allow more freedom with hounds and certain quarry. -
regards the killing you could be right, its a shame really because you have let him see stock , as you said with control. But where alot of people go wrong, is with lambs, because most dogs that have been broke to (sheep) prob aint seen many lambs. Lambs can feck your dog up regards stock breaking, they look differnt, move differnt, and will really excite a young dog. . If next time you have a pup, try took keep it on the lead all the while, and try to get to sse as many lambs as poss. Once it knows these are a no go as well as sheep, you are 1/2 there .I take my dogs every day see sheep, ev

If the dogs working well then the previous owner seems to have put time and effort into it,so he may genuinely want the dog returned,id ask why its taken so long to contact you,if he comes up with a genuine reason why then id be inclined to return it to its rightful owner,id expect to be recompensed for any reasonable outlay. If on the other hand he gives no satisfactory answers id tell him to swivel.

All mine are over the size range you asked for, alas.
