Yeah I’m hopefully having a day out with him soon ?
-
Think there’s something to do with that too. Have had dogs come out that stick close and are happy to chase when my dogs have kicked something up. Sod’s law they are the ones that catch because they still have plenty in the tank and overtake my dogs and beat them to it!

I’m no expert Del and there’s people on here that will and do a lot more. I’ve got into walking the hills the last couple of years. My dogs don’t range too far unless they are chasing. They are out of sight a fair bit but come back and check in a fair bit. If they are on land that they know then they will push further out. My older dog was used for ferreting and lamping but I wanted to get out on the hills. I ended up going out with a lad and a couple of his dogs. He soon took to ranging out. Think going out with other dogs is the best way. The rest will come. If the dog is stock broken then d

Same here. Was 14 when I had my first lurcher. Wish I would have kept them all my life but I was working all over the place. I’m still like I was back then though. Keen to get out as much as possible. Yep dogs have the knack of getting you in trouble. Its all fair game in their mind

I wouldn’t get supplements for the calcium. Just add things to its grub that are higher in calcium. Bone, egg shells, broccoli, sardines etc. Not sure what the adding rice and potatoes is for?

I’m the opposite. Had lurchers as a kid then was out of the game up until my late 30s. Making up for lost time now ?

Will send you a PM

Quality FP. Hope she takes. Once the kids have flown the nest and I can afford to work a bit less I will look to get a couple of dogs bred similar. Spend my days on the moors and mountains.

Never really bumped into muntjac before. Staying in the Surrey/Hampshire area this weekend. First patch of bramble the busher went in and out one popped. Straight into a thick patch of woodland. Good to see

Wouldn’t bother making the trip down lads ?

Nice little pack there. Like them 2 black and white ones.

Yep agree. There’s different types of fox dogs too. You are on the hills putting in the miles so some lamping types might take decent numbers Might not be up to the job you want.

I go out with a mate that has beddy whippets . One half cross (mother) and one 1/4 beddy (daughter) they are fox mad and the only thing that’s against them is their size. Think you need to look at both sides of the breeding. Adding a game Wheaton or Beddy to a not so game lurcher won’t always produce a decent fox dog. The lad put a very game whippet (was owned by sheep chaser off here if I’m right) over his half cross and this produced the 1/4 beddy daughter. She’s 19tts and thinks she’s 27tts when there’s a fox about. There’s still some decent blood out there I reckon. For an out and out fox

First of many walks out for you. Good little team there. I like listening to my spaniel terrier crashing about in the woodlands. Heart in my mouth when it’s the lurchers though. Great to see the collies out with you too.

Had a nightmare with this last summer. As said it’s breaking the cycle. Ours were coming from the hedgehogs in the garden. They were riddled in them. There’s a tablet that you can get from the vet and it will stop fleas and ticks going on the dogs. Not cheap though and you are supposed to give every few months. Probably worth it though if you add up all your cleaning time and hassle. It’s the eggs that are the problem. They lay dormant for up to a year.

One of the best dogs I had was a bitch I rescued. Prob about 3 when I had her and unsure of her breeding. Sometimes they do a home visit so just make sure any hunting clobber is hidden away! ATB with it.

Looks just fine to me!

That’s what I’ve done mate. It’s toastie in there when I open the door in the morning ?
-
Cheers. Yeah. Left the busher as she seems to always stick with him and mess about. She will get there.
-
Not much about but I get to go where I want. Peace and quiet.

Had a few hours up the hills this morning. Started the trek up before first light and got to the top just as the sun was coming up. Only the lurchers today as I wanted the young bitch to start ranging with the older dog. Had a decent walk on the first open bit of ground and then the dogs picked up some more scent and headed over the brow. Took me a while to get over the top and I could see them through the binoculars jumping around a big patch of gorse. Needed the busher! Walked over the ridge to another spot and stayed on the high ground while the dogs worked down below. Noses were down but n

Agree that bull brings more to the party than just gameness. The pup I am training at the moment is the first dog I have owned with bull blood in it. I have bonded with her more than any other dog I have been around. Growing up I was around lurchers, collies, GSD and terriers. There’s just something with this dog that has clicked with me. All the other breeds in her mix I have owned lurchers with these breeds in before, except the bull blood. I think they are a lot more clever than people give credit. As mentioned, they are eager to please and are pretty easy to train. I needed a clever lurche
