They shouldn’t be called dog lads mate.
-
It’s anyone who is willing to act a pain in the arse for a few quid. Word on the street is that a couple of doormen near me are doing it to earn a few extra quid. Pay them more and they would prob come out with you and watch your back.

It’s all down to 2 things. Scumbags with a lack of respect. As said, most go about their business and bag up and go. I moved a few years ago and am struggling for permission. Farmers are happy to chat but as soon as you mention the word lurcher they change their tune. Last one I asked said that he had a neighbour reporting lads lamping deer on his land. When he went up in the morning the electric fence batteries had gone. Few gates stolen and 3 whole roe carcasses left in the field. How do you get an in on permission when you got that to go against. Never seems to be the local lads though.

The mullet we caught were in the bay around Port Stanley. It’s prob changed a lot since I was there. You got two choices over there. Make the most of getting out and about or drink for 3 months! There’s a few lodges you can go stay at if you get a couple of days off. We used to get the helicopter lads to drop us off at the remote inlets and then pick us up a couple of days later. Not as much health and safety back then either! There’s probably a fishing club set up over there now.

Spent some time there in the early 90s. Couldn’t do much over the winter but we did a spot of fishing over the summer. Sea trout and lots of mullet from what I can remember. Good place to be. Make the most of your time over there.

Here’s a question for you ........

Liked reading his posts. Not my type of hunting but all the same he was having a good time and his dogs were out there doing the business. I would like to go to NZ one day. Don’t think it would matter where I was in the world, if I didn’t have my dogs it wouldn’t feel the same. My ideal would just be traveling the UK and Ireland, mutts by my side with not a worry in the world......maybe one day. ! -
Yep that’s what I have been doing with my young bitch. A sheep running in a field is totally different to one bolting out of cover or from behind a rock. Wouldn’t let mine out of sight unless I’m happy they are ready to be amongst stock
-
Next investment for me too. They rarely go out of sight of the Binos but when they chase and go out of view then it’s handy to know where they are.
-
That’s the way mate. Don’t praise him for coming back unless you have called him. Beddy grey should have a good nose. Getting out with other dogs will speed things up. I have a young bitch here that is 11 months. She’s getting there now. She’s picking it up off the other dog.

Yeah I’m hopefully having a day out with him soon ?

Think there’s something to do with that too. Have had dogs come out that stick close and are happy to chase when my dogs have kicked something up. Sod’s law they are the ones that catch because they still have plenty in the tank and overtake my dogs and beat them to it!

I’m no expert Del and there’s people on here that will and do a lot more. I’ve got into walking the hills the last couple of years. My dogs don’t range too far unless they are chasing. They are out of sight a fair bit but come back and check in a fair bit. If they are on land that they know then they will push further out. My older dog was used for ferreting and lamping but I wanted to get out on the hills. I ended up going out with a lad and a couple of his dogs. He soon took to ranging out. Think going out with other dogs is the best way. The rest will come. If the dog is stock broken then d

Same here. Was 14 when I had my first lurcher. Wish I would have kept them all my life but I was working all over the place. I’m still like I was back then though. Keen to get out as much as possible. Yep dogs have the knack of getting you in trouble. Its all fair game in their mind

I wouldn’t get supplements for the calcium. Just add things to its grub that are higher in calcium. Bone, egg shells, broccoli, sardines etc. Not sure what the adding rice and potatoes is for?
-
I’m the opposite. Had lurchers as a kid then was out of the game up until my late 30s. Making up for lost time now ?
-
Will send you a PM

Quality FP. Hope she takes. Once the kids have flown the nest and I can afford to work a bit less I will look to get a couple of dogs bred similar. Spend my days on the moors and mountains.

Never really bumped into muntjac before. Staying in the Surrey/Hampshire area this weekend. First patch of bramble the busher went in and out one popped. Straight into a thick patch of woodland. Good to see
-
Wouldn’t bother making the trip down lads ?
-
Nice little pack there. Like them 2 black and white ones.
-
Yep agree. There’s different types of fox dogs too. You are on the hills putting in the miles so some lamping types might take decent numbers Might not be up to the job you want.
-
I go out with a mate that has beddy whippets . One half cross (mother) and one 1/4 beddy (daughter) they are fox mad and the only thing that’s against them is their size. Think you need to look at both sides of the breeding. Adding a game Wheaton or Beddy to a not so game lurcher won’t always produce a decent fox dog. The lad put a very game whippet (was owned by sheep chaser off here if I’m right) over his half cross and this produced the 1/4 beddy daughter. She’s 19tts and thinks she’s 27tts when there’s a fox about. There’s still some decent blood out there I reckon. For an out and out fox

First of many walks out for you. Good little team there. I like listening to my spaniel terrier crashing about in the woodlands. Heart in my mouth when it’s the lurchers though. Great to see the collies out with you too.

Had a nightmare with this last summer. As said it’s breaking the cycle. Ours were coming from the hedgehogs in the garden. They were riddled in them. There’s a tablet that you can get from the vet and it will stop fleas and ticks going on the dogs. Not cheap though and you are supposed to give every few months. Probably worth it though if you add up all your cleaning time and hassle. It’s the eggs that are the problem. They lay dormant for up to a year.
