  1. Good goin alan, good days sport.
  2. They really can dig on fast in the boggy ground liam, especially if they find a crack in the ground, once had a little lakey bitch travel about 200yds in a boggy earth,f*****g nitemare.
  3. Had a little black dog years ago, hell of a dog to dig to,hard as nails for his size, but he had 1 draw back,if there was rabbit in the earth he would try dig to it,happened a couple of times then we started using another dog to mark the earths and everything was fine, you remember him busterdog,TODD.
  4. If a man wants to use a draw dog,let it be strong dog or any type of lurcher then i personally think it is his buisness. We keep lurchers and occasionaly 1 of them may get used if quarry is in a tight spot. Now as for leting them rag the f**k out of them on top well thats a no no with us,but there are lads that will do it ,then thats there buisness, dont mean we all follow the same route, jmho.
  5. It really depends on how the dog in question works,ie,hard,or sounder,a hard type most lads will try and get a mark without too much delay for obvious reasons, where as a sounder, bayer type well you can leave them as long as you like,a lot also depends on you knowing when the terrier is with the quarry and have settled, jmho.
  6. Lads get a grip we are all in the one game so should be all on the 1 side, and who gives a toss what way the fox is taken out,let it be by hand or lurcher or draw dog, everyman to his own.
  7. Well done digger, you kept at it and got a result thats the main thing.
  8. Was diging with a chap yesterday and he has went and got all his terriers freeze branded with his initials on there side, also ear tattoo,so if they were stolen very easy to idenfy if seen by anybody.
  9. Whether the quarry is released or not is down to the farmer/keeper if they are about and if not then its down to the individual that has dug it.I personally will let all run as i think and have said before on here that the lads with the rifle's,gun packs, snaring, road kills, poisioning, will take there toll on a population in an area so why should i be part of that,at the end of the day i would be killing my own sport. In saying that if a fox is doing damage,eg.hens, lambs, game birds, well then it has to be done and also if the terrier finishes the job below ground then fair enough, jmho.
  10. Fcuk me where or when is it goin to stop, its almost an everyday occurance in this country of late, hope you get them back johnny.
  11. I would say nearly every diging man and woman also the lurcher lads will be out and about tomorow, word of warning be carefull as the wild life rangers were out and about in the meath area last sunday.Hope ye al have a good day.
  12. Are the terriers of today been really tested to a high standard with the laws that prevail nowadays compared to 30 year ago,i seen a time when fox dogs of any breed were 10 a penny but to find a good terrier for badger {pre.ban} waqs a job in itself.
  13. I own the halfx that is the sire to liams pups.He is very hard and has been since his 1st time to ground, almost lost him after his last dig.He is just gone 3year old and has been dug to everytime he is fit.He is no way a big dog,as i have black stuff here a lot bigger,he just wont show quarry any respect at all, great finder and will stay the distance. His dam,the staff is about 6year old and game as hell and only small and has been dug to when short on diging dogs. The sire, patterdale 9year old and well and truly tested, only last week my mate dug him 3 times, even though he has been semi retired
  14. Is it true that there is going to be a bounty on the grey squirril and the mink.
  15. What size are your pups making liam, the bitch i have is just like the lakeland apart from the front legs been very strong.
  16. I personally would not sell a working terrier as they are too hard to come by imo.I dont know too many that would sell a worker,i do know of plenty that will sell shite terriers and tell you there working just to get your hard earned cash.Only recently one of my diging mates bought a dog in good faith only to be let down, the dog spewed and he only got half his money back, the worst part is another one of the lads i dig with has 2 pups in his kennels of this same dog,why people lie about a dogs working ability is beyond me as the 1st time the buyer takes it out he will know ,f*****g arseholes.
  17. Just because they kill rats dont mean they are gona be hard, they could turn out completely sounders. As for there age i would try the 13month old in a handy place and leave the other untill end of feb then try it,hope they turn out ok for you.
  18. Was out with my diging mate a few year back and we had a terrier to ground in a bad spot.We dug to the dog and we were just saying how lucky we were that we did not hit roots or rock which is all over this earth. We lifted the dog let the game out and it re entered so we started to backfill. My mates lurcher,a wheaton halfx was tied and was kicking up a racket so he decided to let her off. After a couple of min i noticed the bitch was missing and on further inspection she could be heard bumping around under the ground and guess where,in the f*****g bad part of the earth. After a long time we dug t
  19. Not unusual for a game lurcher to go to ground, but a pain in the arse at times.
  20. Very true dezzy but this dog was fit and had never walked before. He was always given adaquate time to heal and never worked sore, then 1 day he just packed it in,was tried a couple of times after that and would not even travell an earth, pity was he was a very usefull dog up until then,by the way like the look of that dog of yours.
  21. fair enough but i still cant see why he needs to put a two year old dog over the bitch surely there are dogs off that line with a lot more expericne that could have been used for the mating as said before all the best with the pup great grandad is dead, grandad died too groung, not many more people have these exact lines and the few that do have bitches so the dog he has used is really the only option, yes he could have waited but the sire has done enough too produce good stuff, yes the sire could be a f**k up after a few more but fat chances of it thanks There only as good as ther
  22. I know too well a fox at anytime of year can do damage, but i personally think a mixer, sounder type will take more than a harder type that will take hold and finish things. They will get hit in the process but not as much as a terrier that is sparring with a dog fox for maybe a couple of hours, jmo.
  23. When i kept the greyhounds they were all given lamb lack when weaned of the bitch for about 6 months, they trived on it along with solid food.
