Can you gaurntee them pups will lift.

Seen plenty with white on them, chest, feet,i have one here at the minute with white on the inside of her back leg and she is from a very long line of patterdales, makes not one difference as long as they work, too much emphasis on colour and looks nowadays.I can remember when the only question that would be asked about a terrier no matter what colour or breed it was is ,does it work, and thats what people should have in mind.

I would say its the same as the one we use,got it in aldi, real good piece of kit and easy store in the locator bag.

I had to do the deed last year with my lakeland dog, very loyal and hard worker all his life so not the easiest of things to do.In my mind the dog is yours and he has served you well through the years so its up to you to return the favour,a bench in a vets is not the way.Bring him to wherever he spent most of his good years and let him have a wander about, then when he is finished and tired do the deed.Nobody needs to know do they, and you will feel better yourself in the long run, atb,fm.

a day ferreting ended up digging my dog out of a earth
fat man replied to deadlyshot's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Maybe she is just not cut out for earth work and just left the quarry, walked, jibbed, whatever, not knocking your dog but they dont all make it. -
Have not seen a irish terrier in ages let alone one from working lines,i think your mate will be looking for awhile.
-
Dont give him too much stop ends,he will want the end of a dig the whole time if you do and will have no interest in goin to ground.

Nice strong looking russells woddy.

Fair play alli, thats your season kicked off.

A disaster just waiting to happen imo, what happens if they kick of at night or when there is nobody about, and 90% of the time thats when it happens and they all turn on 1.

STOCK BREAKING/PUPS/ CALLING DOGS OFF QUARRY 2
fat man replied to 3 Turns's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
No offence buddy, but stoping a gun dog on a runner and stoping a lurcher or calling a terrier of a kill are very far apart.I like to see a good springer or cocker working as i keep both springers and a lab myself, and it is not that difficult to stop them on a running bird same as when they flush a rabbit out of cover, but try stoping a lurcher when a rabbit or fox is pushed out,no comparison. -

There was many a day i wish i could have called a dog off, lashing rain, east wind blowing a gale, but when you finially break through and your dog is there giving his best, well its all worth it then, would not change it for the world, stock broken in 2min my arse. just sounds exactly like a sentence david harcombe writes.....in his badger digging book.... .... and the EAST WIND BLOWING... :whistling: ....only david doesnt go as far as to add the east wind but a nice touch fatman....lmao.....souind just like a boy from round my way ..... we were walking up to a 4 footer with him he tur -

I think it is so hush hush in england now with a lot of the diging lads that if a farmer offered them plenty of safe diging for a reasonable fee they could be tempted. We are in a different situation over here as the farmers love to see us coming, and any time im in the pup there is always some farmer wants a job sorted.

Digger if you can get your bitch to come in around april, may, then the resulting pups will be at a right age for starting the following season. As regards what age to breed a bitch from,i would like to have at least 2 if not 3 good hard seasons over her 1st,and also the dog i would intend to put across her would also have to be well and truly proven.Sometimes it wont work out that way,ie bitch so hard might not last a 1st season let alone 3 so then its up to the individual if he thinks she is worth taking a litter from,in a case like that i would see what the rest of her litter mates are doing o

I would say if you surprise them they would probably shit the load and run like f**k,if you aint got a gun get a pic handle or something simular, and above all,DONT BE AFRAID TO USE IT ON THE b*****ds.

fox control terrier work or shooting
fat man replied to the_stig's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I agree, but the question was which is the more efficent way of fox control and it is in some form the gun,let it be rifle or foxs pushed out to waiting shotguns.I have absolutly no interest in shooting fox even though i have both rifle and shotguns, would rather see 1 dug or taken by a good lurcher than see 100 shot, not sport imo, just fox control. -

Imo,if you can call off your dog,and im not saying you cant, when its up the arse of a rabbit and about to pick it up,well then it has not got much prey drive in fairness. -
fox control terrier work or shooting

for sport digging .. thats why some of em get to run for another day ..i dont mind a nights lamping rabbit with lurchers -- i`ve never seen a lurcher take a fox .. Nice to see a good lurcher on fox, especially after a terrier has bolted it,but i could not give a fcuk if they get away from the lurcher,at least ive seen a bit of sport, not like shooting them, its all over in a flash. But in cases where they are causeing harm they have to be culled. -
Have no pic and would not know how to get one on here, lol,pm me your mobile no and i will send you one on it.

fox control terrier work or shooting

For overall management i reckon the guns would win hands down, even good fox lurchers at night could not consistanly take the same amount as the rifle or shotgun, jmho.
