  1. To be honest, if we're looking at a 6 week lock down and taking into consideration the crossover RVHD strain in hares then they SHOULD release them, that's my opinion. I only hope they get released back on the ground they came from rather than on the nearest convenient place where they might have little chance of surviving anyway. I ought to add that while I've always enjoyed open coursing, park coursing of captive hares just isn't my cup of tea and coursing with muzzled hounds is in my opinion just silly.
  2. I was wondering why they keep telling me to do one.? LOL, that explains it!
  3. Here's hoping he does make a full recovery. It must have been a nightmare up 'til now. What did the vet do that cost so much? At 29 inches he'll be a good height and he looks like a really nice dog. What was the dog that ran into him? Must've been something big and heavy. That injury's not what I'd expect from a simple collision.
  4. Did you chip that out from the slab in the fireplace ? Makes it around 63 million years old I reckon.?
  5. Definately something needed adding there alright.
  6. If you're going to use them in poor light (dawn and dusk) I'd advise 7x50 and get waterproof gas filled ones of a decent brand and the best quality you can afford. 200 quid upwards should get something half decent but you cut your coat according to the cloth you have and my own ones were poor quality and free from a house clearance but still work.
  7. Sounds about right. Muntjack are the little dude that's tooled up.
  8. Bad do that Blackie. My sympathies are with you but there's nothing much else to say really. Hope people over there can sort you out somehow.
  9. First cross bordercollie greyhound are almost invariably smooth coated and I've never seen one that wasn't weatherproof. Bedlington crosses, as said above, often have a soft woolly coat that soaks up water and mud like a sponge.
  10. LOL?? Of course they haven't improved. The question is "how badly have they deteriorated?". Even back then a lot didn't work them regularly like good lurcher owners would. Most were probably run half a dozen times a year if that. I must admit I'm a fan of lurchers with deerhound blood and though most would disagree I still think they have a bit to offer to a certain type of lurcher. For a start, if you like a big dog they increase the size without losing overall "running dog" make and structure. If reared right the hybrids tend to have good feet and have a light bounding stride that he
  11. When I had terriers they often dropped into places unexpectedly at the worst of times, usually when I was just stretching my legs and letting the dogs empty out. Christmas day before dinner, when I had pay to collect and the office about to shut, when I was supposed to take the wife shopping etc.etc. If there's a place with scent going to it they'll be gone. No thought for anyone else terriers.
  12. Mel Gibson in Braveheart?? Oh, wait a minute, isn't he Aussie or something?
  13. Both have plus and minus points because of sex. When it comes down to it if it hunts and I enjoy my days out with it, it's a goodun. The youngster I'm bringing on now can be a bit touchy with both other dogs and other bitches but it's a question of management.
  14. it irritates me when they call that coursing. It isn't coursing, it's a simulation of it and a poor one at that.
  15. Sadly though, it's still nothing like coursing at all, even with proper hounds running. In any proper type of hunting the hounds cause the quarry to jink and turn and not visa-versa if that makes sense.
  16. "Mushers Secret" is probably the best paw wax to replace padsanol. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1TEUA_enIE477IE477&sxsrf=ALeKk00A5Dq-6bzvAKVcoIhb0uxW6KiyeA%3A1602674264250&ei=WN6GX8r2DoiV1fAPvdifyAg&q=mushers+secret&oq=mushers+secret&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQDDIECCMQJzICCAAyAggAMgIIADICCAAyAggAMgIIADICCAAyBwgAEBQQhwIyAggAOgcIABCwAxBDOgcIABBHELADOgcIIxDJAxAnOgYIABAWEB5QoKsCWPLCAmCLgwNoAXAAeACAAV-IAfcHkgECMTKYAQCgAQGqAQdnd3Mtd2l6yAEJwAEB&sclient=psy-ab&ved=0ahUKEwjKgtjx-rPsAhWIShUIHT3sB4kQ4dUDCA0
  17. I bought tuf-foot after failing to find padsanol, either the yellow or the white. I honestly don't think the tuf-foot does much at all for tender feet but it does smell nice and will stain your carpet if your dogs live in the house.
  18. They eat them too mate, and ferrets, bats 'n all.
  19. With them looking like a cousin to salukis it's not what you'd be expecting of them. Just goes to show............. something or other.
  20. He's certainly the man that knows about old lurcher types.?
  21. I do see your point but those dogs aren't salukis. I suppose they may be common ancestors with more modern salukis but IMHO salukis didn't really have much influence on the modern lurcher until the mid 1900's.
  22. Glad to hear it. Injuries of of any kind are always a worry and it's good to hear of things working out.
  23. I'm 64 years old and when I was a schoolboy I found a book about this in Newcastle Central Library. "The Saluki in art History and Sport", by Hope and David Waters, so a long time ago. Possibly 40's, 50's ? Maybe longer.
