How do you know they're "tumbling"? A poor group doesn't necessarily mean tumbling. You say it's fine to 20m, but goes wrong thereafter? Sounds more like a power variation to me. Who did the tuning, and what exactly did they do?

Lads on here who are taking part
matt_hooks replied to Caprelous's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Here on Ardnamurchan, we were driving back from the pub tonight and you could see the clouds of midges hovering over the road. A mile stretch and the cloud was continuous! Can't even step outside for a few moments to enjoy the view without being eaten alive! I'd definitely recommend midge jackets. I've not found any repellent that works, except for boiling up a good lot of bog myrtle and smearing it all over yourself. That's no problem except you get eaten in the time it takes to gather the bog myrtle! -
A weasel beat a ferret? I doubt it! Your large male weasel is all of about 25cm long, and weighs less than 250 grams. A full grown ferret will be fifty plus centimeters, and will weigh somewhere between 1 kg and 2 kg. I know a weasel can kill a 2kg rabbit, but your ferret is a totally different kettle of fish. Are you sure it's a weasel not an Ermine? How big is it? Nothing there to give scale. Anyway, most likely culprit would be fox, badger or mink. Possibly polecat, or a stoat. My first thought was "the dog dunnit" though.

benefits of fac air rifle
matt_hooks replied to pappabear's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Advantages? Of a 20 or 30 ft.lb air rifle over a sub 12? They're more expensive, you need an FAC and give you maybe five or ten more feet of range. So really, advantages are small and few and disadvantages are numerous. If you're going for an FAC, then get a .22LR. It's silent, but carries a lot more power and range. Also a decent .22LR rifle can be had for £200, whereas a good FAC air rifle will set you back £500 or £600. -
I've shot all of the UK deer species, bar CWD, with a .243 and never had a problem. Someone will come along and tell you that you need a bigger caliber to ensure an exit wound to help the beast bleed out quickly and leave a good blood trail, but that's a personal thing. I would suggest it is better for you to use a rifle/scope/ammunition package that you are used to, and are confident in, in a slightly smaller caliber than use an unfamiliar rifle and cartridge. Of course you need to make sure your ammunition meets the minimum requirements for a deer rifle under Scottish law. The s

Few questions about shotgun licence
matt_hooks replied to borderhunter15's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
rich, the police have to assess the security of the guns. If you are in a safe area with a low crime rate then they might be happy for you to hold a lot of guns without requiring alarms. However if you are in a high crime area, then they may well insist that you have an alarm installed for a lesser number. That said, it is the responsibility of the certificate holder to ensure the safety and security of the guns, so whilst the police can advise, they might be hard pushed to enforce such a requirement. Of course, if you have a lot of guns, a silent, police linked alarm would help give -
gnash, a few points on this one. A dog needs protection, more than a human perhaps. Certainly a dog is unable to protect itself. Should the punishment for attacking a defenceless animal be less than for attacking a human? Why is a human life worth intrinsically more than an animals life? I don't agree with the death penalty for anything. I would say that this bully, (and that's all he is, a weak, fearful bully) deserves to be dealt with at least as harshly as someone who has harmed a human. As an aside, this kind of behaviour, the systematic torturing and killing of anima

Self-righteous condescending pricks!

Ah, but do you not think the blue .17 frisbee is a far less capable decapitation tool than the red frisbee? I know they're all made in the same factory, but the reds just seem far more reliable, and they are the colour of blood so must be better! -
Nice SSIP! .338LM or 300WM?
-
That's all very nice, but you forgot one important detail. How much do you want for it?
-
With the crusts cut off I hope!
-
No mate, that's where I live, not where I was working. SS, most people call it a closed or open certificate. The legalese terminology is "restrictive territorial condition" or "less restrictive territorial condition".

I'm guessing she doesn't read this forum then. Or does she? If Dunc goes quiet, we know that she's been reading in, and he's currently suspended from the loft hatch by a couple of yards of knicker elastic! -
Lead in it's solid form has very low bio-availability. A few pellets going through the gut aren't going to cause lead levels in your body to increase appreciably. Lead is only really a risk in it's more soluble forms.

Whoever mentioned greasing the O-rings, you might want to think again. "Grease" and compressed air are not a good mix. If you need to lubricate the O-rings (there's no real reason you should) then you need to use a non flammable lubricant, such as a silicon grease, and definitely NOT a petroleum based grease. I normally just lick a finger and rub that around the O-ring. It gives enough lubrication to slide the probe in properly without any risk.

Earth, which FEO do you come under? Is it C F? I've been told a few times "we don't issue x for y", but when questioned further they can't back it up. Oh, and the law patently hasn't changed. There have been no new acts of parliament affecting the issue of FAC's. The VCR bill changed the wording of a few bits of the Firearms act, but nothing that will affect the issue of S5 firearms. I was told "economic reasons is not classed as "good reason" for increasing your ammunition allowance (I wanted to reload, but had a buy 50/hold 100 limit). I pointed out that I wanted to reload to im

Any one selling a 22lr rifle
matt_hooks replied to ticklemouse89's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Or look in the Classified section at the bottom of the forum. There are often LR's for sale. The BRNO number 1 above sounds like a decent deal, as long as the condition is ok and the scope is decent. If I had a slot for LR I'd be snapping it up! -
Why do you have to be so far away?

Bloody hell, 50 seconds, that is some fecking thigh strength! She could crush you to death with those. Nice way to go though!

You have to use a hammer to subdue your mrs' knickers? I mean I'm not averse to using a club to get in to a girls knickers (I find oak makes the best clubs, ug) but having to use a hammer to get her knickers off? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUtdKm6lERQ -
June meet 2012 in Nottingham (who is interested?)

Davy, it's a really kind thought but I can't justify the cash and time. I was all set to go too, but I'm sure there'll be other times in the future when I can come along and not be worried about finances and jobs and all that crap. I want pics though! -
Red wine is fine, but don't offer it to the FEO, or sit there drinking out of a bottle in a brown paper bag whilst you're talking to them!
