  1. Hemp has been a mix of flax and sisal for years now.Far too many people still prefer hemp just to write it off and nothing beats hemp in the field ,that's a plain fact, BUT it must be dried after use or you'll end up with a collection of rings, drawstrings and rotten netting . I like spun poly but I don't think it's the wonder material it's made out to be.....certainly no better than spun nylon. Nowadays nets are made from all sorts of materials and I think you've got to go a long way to beat a good old fashioned heavy (10 or 12Z)nylon twine ATB
  2. I've reached that age where I'll just to take your word for that......the ol' memory ain't so good these days
  3. I'm with Plong on this...What's so wrong with using a bleeper?......For my ferrets, locators are compulsory dress...no bleeper, no work...after all that's what locators are there for......to be used
  4. Really nice looking pup there, mate
  5. mouth like a mangle like it I've got a whippet/bull just the same (he's old and past it now)he was a great dog if you like rabbit soup
  6. yeah just the same, scarred meself for life To tell the truth I don't get on with them at all, I bought two off Nige several months ago........nothing wrong with the needles(or the price) it's just me...can't seem to settle with them I know Nige has been unwell recently......might be why he hasn't answered his e.mails ATB
  7. Are you talking about those Loomis needles from Agouti? He'll tell you which is best I think it's the 10" one ATB
  8. Don't forget mate your ferrets are only 8 months old, they haven't even worked a whole season yet, give 'em time they'll be OK . I always feed mine as normal the day before and give 'em a light breakfast on working mornings. During the working day I give them bits (hearts lungs etc) out of the rabbits they've bolted.Don't try and work them on an empty stomach it's asking for lie-ups ATB
  9. laughing at the life of luxury she getting mate, out in the sun and laying around the house like a pet pooch lol I see, an old head on young shoulders eh??
  10. Nice pup mate, good luck with her
  11. Nice looking pup, mate, good luck with her...........last pic looks like she's having qa good laugh
  12. Brian Brinded does an excellent DVD on net making and repair the best book I've seen so far is Net Making for Sport by Howard Glynn (an old Shooting News writer)both are still available ATB
  13. Stop net is just a short long net, the sort of thing you might set up through a hedgerow.....gate net is traditionally a square meshed net set up on a gate(not being funny)for netting hares....poke net is a purse net with two drawstrings so you've got a peg at each end.......selvedge mesh is basically a double knitted mesh on the edges of a net where it takes most wear
  14. No they don't rot but they do absorb water so like the ferreter said you need to dry 'em out
  15. Considering the recent thread about the poor guy who's pup died.................find a good vet, get all his jabs done, don't take him out until he is fully protected and good luck mate.....any pics?
  16. Well done mate, obviously put a bit of thought into that apart from that women are useless with a screwdriver
  17. These ain't poachers mate, they're the sort of shoit that gives poachers a bad name
  18. Yep, it's easy once you've got the hang of it ATB
  19. No disrespect mate but hemp is the typical beginners material, you shouldn't be suffering from slipping knots .My guess is ,altho you think you're pulling the knots tight, you're just being too nice with it Don't be shy with it, give the fecker a good ol' tug There's no need for double or even different knots with hemp, just got to show it who's boss ATB
  20. The worst that could happen is they could confiscate your car, ferrets, ferreting gear and a large portion of you hard earned (or not so hard earned ) income . Take it from me I've got the scars, tee shirt and empty wallet to proove it........on the other hand.........that only happens if you get caught
  21. I stopped using hay and straw years ago, there's so much crap on the market I used to throw away loads I started putting the word around that I needed shredded paper for my ferrets and I've never run out since....can't remember how long ago that was.
  22. To answer your question mate, spun nylon can be tied with a single knot....no problem ATB
  23. Hi jam1.....a good tip for the Mk1 collars is to wrap a bit of insulating around the cap to stop it coming loose . They can sometimes be little sods for this and you loose the signal long before the caps come off . Bit late to tell you now I know ATB
