  1. Always build my own, bought ones are usually crap
  2. ferretertom has got it about right.........good advice
  3. Good idea with the jute ,mate, nice one I've used spun poly and find it OK, nice to tie with and to use . If you're making your own nets you can afford the best so go for a reputable supplier (Agouti or Torchy)both are very reasonable . Don't be tempted with the bottom end of the market stuff it's crap, it's well worth spending an extra couple of quid a spool on decent gear . ATB
  4. There's loads of info on this site mate plus you need to get yourself a copy of Longnetting from Peg to Peg by Martin King which is about the best book on the subject. As for a set up......a couple of 25yd and a 50yd nets in 6Z in a quickset basket will see you thro most situations daytime and for night a couple of 50 yarders of the same ATB
  5. Yes you can mate give Liam Brinded, Bridport Nets or Agouti Nets a look ATB
  6. Very possibly.......but only if they've all been castrated and even then there's a chance they won't ATB
  7. IF I charge for rabbiting it's a price per day plus costs i.e. gas . This gives the customer to call a halt if they start worrying about costs . But borntoshoot is spot on.....if she offers you fuel costs great but push yourself as a gardener/fence erector it's a good opportunity.........if you're self-employed never miss a chance to sell yourself ATB
  8. Either hemp or spun poly are going to be hand tied, mate. Make sure you've got plenty of money ready ATB
  9. There you go taff you never know till you ask eh? ATB
  10. More or less mate yes........it's not braid you want but nylon twine sort of 8Z or 10Z will do, Pat of Bridport will be at The Midland this coming weekend if you can get there it's worth having a chat with him....if not ,phone him leave a message and he'll get back to you . ATB
  11. You can buy nylon twine on a spool (Brinded Bridport Agouti)no problem . If you can hand tie purse nets then tie the nylon to the net and tie off to the ring in the same way....easy peasy ATB
  12. OK albert64 I've reread your post........yes I have used hemp (3 ply) longnets and they're a pain in the arse...extremely heavy when wet . No I haven't and I'm very unlikely to, use spun poly because I'm satisfied with either 6Z or 4Z (particularly 4Z) All of these nets had/have the same amount (100%) bagging (kill) in them without excessive tangling and now I use a quickset absolutely no tangling at all even with 4Z I assume you're using traditional longnets? If so they will pick up rubbish whatever they're made of that's another one of the big advantages of the quickset..the nets needn't e
  13. No offence meant there tdave........didn't know you had dealt with Nige in the past and didn't want any one else to get the wrong impression ATB
  14. I've never used the stuff but I have seen it and it stuck me as being very light, I think you'll be OK mate . Also Agouti is no rip off artist, if it was crap I'm sure he wouldn't sell it to you as a longnet material ATB
  15. No mate they won't, more like some toe rag will pinch your net . I think you might be talking about drop netting .
  16. Every one makes mistake TB.........even me..........I remember the last one I made, years and years ago it was
  17. Is that the long net twine from Agouti? If so I think you'll find you'll be OK with it as I believe it is a fair bit lighter than purse net spun poly .
  18. I think you might be right there Leeview
  19. night time longnetting..........you walk into a field set up the net between the rabbits and thier warrens then clap your hands and all the rabbits get frightened and run for home and get trapped in the net Well it's not quite that easy but you get the jist ATB
  20. I wouldn't go back to a hemp longnet if you paid me, bloody things wiegh a ton when they get wet . I've use 3 nets two 6z and 1 4z all fifty yarders and the 4z gets used the most . They don't collect the rubbish because I use a Brinded quickset basket.Tbh if I had to replace all my nets I'd go for 4z, lovely nets, even the 6z can be a bit on the heavy side. Longnets work by tangling not purseing so a heavy material is the last thing you want. ATB
  21. Well of course I'm gonna say buy your nets from me but Agouti does a nice net making kit with spun poly at a very reasonable price every thing in it you need and he's very helpful if you're new to net making.........google his website mate ATB
  22. Nice to see someone taking thier time with thier ferrets Too many people look for big bags from inexperienced ferrets and get dispondent . pm me if you want decent cheap nets mate
  23. Bridport nets or Agouti nets.......but make sure you tell 'em hemp
