  1. Nice one mate, well done ATB
  2. Hullo mate, I use electrical cable ties, every bit as good and a fraction of the price ATB
  3. If you're not going to breed from them mate get them neutered . That'll cut the smell to almost nothing and they can live in the same cage all year round . Cost might be an issue tho ATB
  4. Good choice of nets mate, very versatile choice as time goes by and you gain more experience you MIGHT want to down size to 4z but stick with 6z to start, they will work extremely well . Sorry can't help with either jbs or netloft but to the best of my knowledge they are both genuine blokes ATB
  5. I'm with the Guild of Brit Molecatchers and I'm very impressed with them . They do very inexpensive training courses and Jeff Nichols (the guilds fearless leader) books are well worth a read . Did you ask your local mole man?.....did he tell you to ?
  6. I did the RSPH Level 2 course at Datas several years ago (and passed)it was said then that it was a two week course crammed into one week....very intensive. Two points to bear in mind (1)It costs the thick end of a grand, if you ain't commited - don't waste your money (2) As Matt said it doesn't turn you into an instant pest controller - that takes time, experience and further training . I don't want to put anyone off doing this course but I think many go into it with thier eyes closed or with a 'Grime Fighters' vision of what pest control is all about. Don't be influenced by the tele, try t
  7. It sounds great in theory but the problem is the whole set up is vunerable to theft or vandalism
  8. Do I recognise that top pic from a certain website ?
  9. Couldn't tell you where to get it over there mate, but you want 1" mesh ,heavy duty if you can get it, galvanised. It used to be called Weldmesh or Twillweld (weldmesh over here in Norfolk) Don't use chicken netting it ain't strong enough. ATB
  10. Thanks for that tb25 Yeah I would say that a nice heavy nylon is good for a beginner less tangles/ hassle/pains in the 5rse and about 3'6" long is a good all rounder . Once you've got a bit more experience (and money ) you could start looking at other materials and sizes ATB
  11. That's not a bad offer, for a net you ain't using ATB
  12. Very nice net mate, I'd dig those dandelions out of your lawn tho the bloody things spread like wild fire
  13. Most of the completely black ferrets I've seen have been bred down from wild polecat/ferret crosses (or that's the story) I've seen seversl supposedly 1st cross wild polecat/ferrets and they were all nasty little sods completely unhandable . I suppose this is why they are rare, also I think the demand is so great that if anyone is breeding black ferrets the kits are sold before they are born, which is probably why you don't see many about . ATB
  14. Good luck to both of you, hope you find your ferrets . ATB
  15. We used to use potatoes soaked in creosote . But the creosote those old books are talking about is no longer available . ATB
  16. You know, this guy could be Jewish in which case this particular piece of advice would be completely useless . Get along to your local ferret rescue mate tell 'em you're abeginner and you want a beginners ferret, they'll make sureyou don't get a biter ATB
  17. The NFWS is not the all seeing oracle, its only as good as the information is given, remember GIGO. Hats off to Mercia & to John Goddard who have cancelled shows regardless off the loss especially to mercia who use shows to fund the rescue keep your ferrets at home simple as that If John has cancelled shows it's at huge cost and no doubt Mercia as well....a very brave move......well done
  18. OK mate Keep the jill seperate in her own cage, make sure she gets the best food and fresh water - don't leave carcasses in the cage or any food that's likely to go off . Don't worry too much about that first litter...it happens with young jills with thier first litter....they just don't seem to know what to do . When the kits are born resist the temptation to disturb them just for the sake of a little peak, leave her alone, just keep an eye on her from a distance . Keep posting and asking questions and don't let the slaggers woerry you mate.....shoit 'appens . ATB
  19. Nice looking hob mate.....I see he's still got his nuts so you'll probably need to keep him on his own anyway ATB
  20. Theres been quite a few people get there ferrets jabbed after the show at shugborough where it was also confirmed several dogs were treated for distemper in stafford Especially for your benefit Leeview or should I say Lee didn't view
  21. The outbreak wasn't at the Stilton ferret rescue. I know those people, they're a good lot.....likely they've suspended that service anyway as a precaution ATB
  22. You've got to ask yourself "Do I really want a live ,very p5ssed off, rat in a purse net"? If you were to ask me I'd probably say no ATB
  23. Bad luck "kill um" rotten news . Personally I think it's the shows (ferret, lurcher, terrier, whatever)that's going to be responsible for spreading distemper ATB
  24. Just a word of warning.....Distemper....has reared its ugly head again. Its not just confined to the Midlands or the North of the country a confirmed case has been reported ,recently, in Stilton near Peterborough ATB
