Sealegs tablets for travel sickness
Casso replied to Country Joe's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
looking beyond the tablets,i think you've still got an underlining problem, the car journey is just magnifying ,,dont want you to take this the wrong way because its not sent with that intention bud,,but is the dog nervy with you, and what sort of a bond do you have with the pup,, some dogs love car rides and relish the chance to be in a moving vehicle with their owner,,,some sensitive, submissive types, find the close proximity with their owner extremely difficult to stomach,,if ya get my drift also the sicker the pup is the more unsettled you are with him,and the pup will pick up on that,an -
a working collie bred for generations to listen and take commands and follow them through or a collie that just looks like a collie,i know which one i prefare,,

dogs can only function on 1 level at a time, you leave a sensitive dog into a boarding kennel for a few days and chances are he wont eat for them few days, because he not referencing him gut ,he's all in his mind or out of his mind with worry, its stress basically,,its it exactly the same with people ,highly stressed people wont eat, a dog in drive wont reference his gut either, same principle, because he to is all in his head,, as the man said let him settle in ,dont overpower him with attention, its only going to make things worse in the short term, once he feels relaxed in his new surrou

STOCK BREAKING /PUP/CALLING DOGS OFF QUARRY 2
Casso replied to 3 Turns's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
3 turns ,your either a complete genius,or a total f**king rehab case,, -
nervousness is untrainable, dead right ,because its a instinct, the only thing that will overcome it is a desire,a want, all animals in the wild are totally fear based, instinctive,,and its a want or desire that brings them into contact with us,,mostly food, a dog is somewhat different,,with working dogs their biggest pull can be drive, not in every case but most,,drive as in hunting ,sniffing round, chasing ,killing etc if you can give the mutt a desire to focus on ,some sort of toy ,tug or otherwise ,dont leave it with him , ,you will have some sort of a handle on him ,something he can focus o

its possible,

greyhound's in the field or anywhere else ,are not bred to catch, anything they are bred to race each other,

even breeding a good dog and bitch together your going to get a mix of different traits, now the trait you wanted when you bred to that dog may not come out in the pup you've picked or some of the pups a dog been an animal that has evolved this far ,is still breeding with an evolutionary aspect ,that means that your going to have some active and direct pups, some less direct and more cautious ones, and so on ,every trait needing in the wild will be in some shape or form in every litter, In a litter of wolf pups ,since nature in the wild is unpredictable will have to cover all angles,

his good retrieving his rag and toys etc but [bANNED TEXT] he caught the rabbit it was a diff story he began to approach me but stopped and pinned it down and try to tuck in to his prize ! the pup is seeing the rabbit as food,,i would try getting him less possessive of what he thinks is his ,food is one of the biggies for a dog ,i know its not always possible but try feeding him everything out of your hand in close contact with you, while feeding praise him ,rub him round the shoulders ,neck, its easier with dry food moisten it first, dont tell him off for making any form of contact,,g

i think if they're likely to yap they will, saw a beddy bitch before didn't open up til about 2 years old,you only heard her on hare because she was completely out gunned for speed,,was mute when used for drawing and on other heavy quarry, bred a litter of mute pups too ,figure that one out??
-
caught 2 in the same field one night with a collie as a kid ,never again, its a personal choice, ,but to the folk on here that think because you dont agree with lamping hare your somehow not a proper hunting man,, you dont know how wrong you are,,
-
bitch wont piss on the ferret box when you put it down, apart from that ,i think a lot of it will come down to individual choice through experiences both good and bad,,to say one is better than the other is way off the mark,, bitch's can be every bit as hard and unforgiving as dogs, depending on the breeding,,

training through drive for the recall ,retrieve etc,is as near to the real thing as you'll get,,the only time your going to need to give any command in truth will be when the dog is stimulated through some aspect of his drive ,smell of a cat or some other scent, if the dog is responsive to you while in drive, tugging, getting him to out, dropping him in drive on command, his mindset in drive is open to your commands, because he equate been in drive to listening to you, ,in the other case if he doesn't have experience listening to commands in drive your f**ked,,you can shout and ball all yo

the more she's out ,the greater her feel for the running habits of rabbits, all you can do is keep her at it and let her get a feel for them she'll develop a running sense for them, dogs gravitate to a system that works for them,,had a old bitch before rarely picked up a bunny out in the open space of a field but figured out how to work the hedge to her advantage,, she'll come good given enough work,,best of luck with her

Just wondering because there are a lot of folk from different backgrounds on here, would be interested to know what level of education some have had,, myself ,finished school, hated every f**king minute, couldn't make money out of dogs, ended up in the building game, city & guilds would be my highest qualification,,

i know a lot of lads have a problem giving credit to the beddy cross for having bottle,,to be fair i dont know what they're like now, but years ago we worked some who were the bollox when the going got tough, we drew out more at the end of digs with beddy x's than wheatons who were too dog aggressive and would n't stand round off lead waiting to work, without bursting into some other dog, could hold 8/10 pointers till the cavalry arrived , change from a leg hold to a nose hold without getting speared, on her own, and hold that for as long as it took us to get there,, until you've seen a go

i think it will occur again, ollie see's parker as a way of resolving drive energy by the sound of it, when ollie's in drive like the stick throwing issue, when that stopped, parker became the focus of his drive energy ,because energy was still in his system its nothing got to do with dominance,,think of two terriers tied together at a dig ,they can happily live together at home but once the excitement ,energy of the dig seep into the terriers its only a matter of time before one of them overload, then all hell breaks loose,, it doesn't matter which dog is bigger or stronger, its not abo

seen this before in young whippety dogs or sensitive mutts ,the daytime is different, she's feels safer because all her senses are telling her she's safe,, when out in strange environment ,dark ,wind blowing, not sure of themselves, ,they will chase but are running into the unknown, so one part of their mindset will be looking for danger in situations but their drive is compelling her to chase,,and you may only be getting 97% of ability,, but as the man said ,the more work you give her,the more shes going to settle down to her job,, she'll grow into it with maturity ,best of luck with her,

excersise before working? how much? age dependency etc?
Casso replied to RossM's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
if im taking a dog out lamping,,i would have wanted to take that edge off him before hand, holding a dog back only causes frustration in the mutt,,let him out earlier in the day, let them do all the doggy stuff as much as possible, digging ,stretching ,some running, it will relax the mutt and she wont feel as tense and bound up, which leads to reckless running and over shooting,, a chilled out mutt is what you want on the beam, bunnies are easier caught by a calm dog who sits in and waits more than a mutt bound up with energy,, if shes still going well at 7 that bitch has done ya proud ,and -
its been a few years since i attended school, but i cant for the life of me figure out how you got 120mins from those figures bud, if im missing something my mistake, but i cant figure it,

road works does f**k all imo dogs need free running and hunted to become fit.You can walk a dog on road for miles a day but never be fit . a dog that gets free running and worked will always be fitter but you should know road work does f**k all for a dog?? dont kid yourself.i susoect you say this to justify being a bit of a lazy git who does not walk his dogs.road work gives a dog stamina, and also keeps thier feet in check.with that statement you made, you are another one who i will chalk up as someone who talks waaash When you think about it road work would have been an instrument

both teams deserve on merit to be there,,hope its a good one,but as dub its got to be, Up the Dubs,, but seems to be at this stage of the competition the dubs start getting a bit shaky and take their eye of the game in hand, looking to the big one ,hope not,
