Advice needed on electric colars
Casso replied to irishboy's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
the only thing about trainers of non working dogs, they will all try preventing the mutt jumping up,seems to be the thing to do,,but working dogs need to be able to come into your space without fear,,get plenty of contact from the dog again, it wont happen overnight but it will get better in time, hand feeding ,and tugging items in your space help, big time,,you can ease those fears again in the dog, just got to believe you can ,dogs are very forgiven,, -
Advice needed on electric colars

in situations where the mutt is stopping short of coming all the way into you,,the answer usually lies somewhere in the relationship between both of you, sometimes if the dog has been corrected in or around your personal space, it will leave a block in how the dog sees that space around you, you'll notice if the dog wont make contact when your out on a day to day basis, dont tell him off for jumping up,in fact teach the dog to jump up on command,it eases his fears of contact hand feed while out ,throw a handful of dry food into your pocket, and feed him out getting plenty of contact, and -
Sealegs tablets for travel sickness
Casso replied to Country Joe's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
its more of how they perceive the car and the motion,,if they perceive it as a negative it will have that effect on them,,if on the other hand you make it a positive experience ,the feeling of been in motion will feel great to the mutt,, Take an hour out and try this, start with as short a journey as possible ,just to some green patch to throw ball for the pup, back in car again drive to some other grassy area ,play ball again ,and so it goes on ,if ya can drive to as many areas in that hour, dont have to be different places just back and forth ,the pup hoping in and out of the motor ,on -

What do you suggest instead of the hand? As far as i read Patrick pinned the dog down, something i also do with pups, and scruffing them. everyone on here will have their own way of dealing with situations like this,,case's like this ,with this young man are avoidable i feel, i dont let them up on things and i dont allow play in the house, its about how the mutt see's his environment , as far as hitting the dog and pining it go ,,i dont,,i have in the past but i think it was a case where its the first and fastest reaction, a dog is the most social animal on earth,,if a mutt is in

straight away, hit her and pinned, said no, pushed her off the sofa, everyone ignored and told her off if she tried getting back on with me, felt bad she didnt wana be my mate after that for a little while how do you know what association you made in the pups mind by that , will it teach her biting is wrong ,or, your unpredictable and aggressive, bud, how we deal with all these little things and the emotional impact on the dog ,is what forms an image in the pups mind of how it deals with us in future,, i would wager the pup acted instinctively ,with no intention,,but the out come is that

you need to get the dog to see you as instrumental to its drive process, that means that the dog must equate coming back to you as a way of getting to chase rabbits again ,as some lads have already said and rightly so ,the more you work the dog the more it will figure it out, that is because a dog in drive , is a dog whose senses are making connections at a super canine rate ,much faster than when its at ease,, it also works because its the best rate of expenditure of energy, and to the mutt thats right up there in its portfolio for survival, inherited from its wild ancestors, recall if no

there's a few things you mention would give me cause for concern,,firstly, been in the house must be seen as down time to the mutt,,if you have a dog that thinks the house is a play area the same as another dog see's a field, your going to have trouble in the house,,inside rest and chill, outside play,,it will cut out a whole heap of unwanted behavior in the home if the dog gets used to coming in and just lying down ,they need that downtime too , some people have dogs on the sofa's, beds whatever, i dont like how it effects them, its where a lot of folk run into real big problems, some don

im not sure how you sum it up ,Bosun has got pretty close, although my focus nowadays is more fixed on the mutt ,and getting the best out of him ,it's more of a compulsion, primal you could say, im not sure if sport or way of life explain it properly ,its an urge,,

Lead aggression is a huge one with reactive dogs, when you think about it two dogs coming at one another straight face on,is a very aggressive gesture in the canine world and with no way of being able to express its self while on the lead ,if the two dogs had met off the lead ,they can express themselves through body language that their not a threat, the aggression would not arise Nervous aggression is also a big one ,a truly confidential dog doesn't need to express himself through aggression in a social setting, food and play items are different,, and a lot of lads will have bitchs in their

Is a dogs stamina in its genes? or breed?
Casso replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
todays greyhounds are the sprinters of the canine world, maximum muscle for relative short distances,,shouldn't really compare the two,,one bred to catch, the other bred to race another canine to the first turn,, -
May not effect his working ability, but it will effect his sociability with other mutts,

get her focused on some sort of play, tug items are ideal, start in the garden or some safe area with no disturbances, whens she hooked and will play at the drop of a hat,you have then formed a desire in her,the desire is something you can then work with, because you cant work with nervousness its untrainable, but a desire can overcome fear,,so take that desire with you out in the form of the tug item, begin walking her in places with not too many folk, and when somebody appears, take out the tug item and start playing, what you have done in that instance is create an association in the mutts mi

Your answer is in your question,,4 months old,,not sure what you expect from a pup of that age, i wouldn't really be expecting much drive for anything,, a pup of that age is still trying to figure out if its prey or predator to other bigger animals,,its still in its instinctive precautionary mind set,, encourage confidence in your pup,,prevent as much as you can his instinctive nervousness in situations,,jolly him along and dont overtax him,, too many nervous experiences now even with you , will teach him that ,thats how he deals with situations in the future,, any interaction with you th
