  1. 5 in the morning no walkers and dogs get twice the excercise
  2. if it's windy 4 -5 nights in a row you need to use them ,no point thinking ah poor reg ran 8 rabbits last night and giving him a day off. No one mentioned the fact of terrain if a dogs used to running flat land,it might have a shock when running up and down dales? Don't think a dog can smell through 2-3-4 foot of soil,When a dog marks it stands at the holes,if it could smell through the ground it would mark individual rabbits from above. They defiantly cannot smell when your on your way home.
  3. To be honest I've always found mine have got used to the amount of work I can give them. While some might have a bit of extra natural wind, It would still blow up if it was used to running12 rabbits a night, and you took it of to run 30+. My own stamina runs out at about 30 so stamina isn't really a issue:)
  4. Lol,Yeah or don't let two out at a time but not my dog,or my farm.
  5. Just wondering if any one has any ideas on how to stop a farm terrier, going of into rabbit burys, Thinking maybe a light bar across the collar or similar,Any one ever seen anything?
  6. Leveller yeah cannot beat getting away on your own... Hounds may well be better left alone when hunting, but when drawing its nice to hear huntsman,to know where he is,personally would rather get bollocked by a excited huntsman, than see a lad walking around with a if they do they do if they don't they don't attitude. If I was a subscriber on a quite day would like to hear the huntsman encouraging hounds,as opposed to see him go into cover then spending the next 40 min wondering where he is. I also think you can tell when a huntsman ain't trying by watching the hounds. All part of being part
  7. Over in Ireland last season watched a few young lads hunting hounds. If you cannot see them you wouldn't know they where there,I can only presume this is a trend coming from England , No noise no urging on.Something missing as far as I'm concerned,Wouldn't want to whip to lads like that.
  8. Where wires not used by coursing lads, coursing clubs? Now that would be wrong.
  9. I lost one recently, only got it back because it was chipped, phone the cops or dog wardens they ain't interested unless its chipped, the best few £ you would ever spend.
  10. If there's stock grazing it there isn't going to be any wires..
  11. I like books when there by lads who have story's to tell, moochers tale was very good. When lads bring out book after book it just seems to be about the £ to me. Also have brought books, based on reviews on here"lurcher bible" blah blah.Fact is I've been disappointed when I've got it. Some lads might have been genuinely taken by the books, some could have been friends, received a free copy,or just plain ass lickers. Either way from now I will be keeping my hard earned in my pocket, until something comes along that is written by a author who has a story to tell,I will carry on reading Rebecca the
  12. Ive owned some lurcher's with great noses, and not scared of cover........... but its absolutely pointless a lurcher pushing into cover for say a rabbit,by the time the dogs half way in,the rabbits out the, other side, and in a hole, leaving you shouting here Bruce here. Neither do i remember ever seeing rabbits being scared out of cover, because dogs were yapping in cover next to it,after all if they where that easy to get out you wouldn't need a bushing dog you could just walk around barking like a dog Miss the bushing great way to spend a hour on a summers evening.
  13. Did you not notice the first three words in the post?it said IN MY OPINION that is what it is my opinion it is worth no more or no less than anyone else,s.I two have seen plenty of Irish terriers and found them all gassy just like a lot of show Lakelands. But at least I gave my opinion and kept away from the snide comments that are all to common on here.. I didn't say you we're right or wrong,I was just making a observation, hence the ?
  14. For dogs that have nothing to offer there seems to be plenty of lads who are happy with what they got?
  15. Bustard is the heaviest flying bird.
  16. it was chewing baccy they used pip it was also said a pound of raw liver as well some said to use garlic or onions theres a book with them all in cant remember what its called old wifes tales and pets i think or something like that I add garlic to the dogs food a couple of times a week, good for there blood and skin.
  17. I know what your saying, what i'm sure many aren't aware of is the fact certain people are currently trying to make an amendment to the current DDA which will make it an offence for YOUR dog to kill a cat on YOUR own property. Now I certainly don't want my dog to kill a cat in any situation but I find it incredulous that a neighbours cat can enter my garden, kill birds on my feeders, shit all over my borders and flower beds and now I have to scan the garden before letting my dogs out of property I paid for in case they tag a cat. Which may potentially land me and my dogs in trouble.........
  18. Lot of people seem to think a dog lives for the moment ect, ect. While it is kind of true a dog ain't stupid and is very able to understand that it can do something while your not around ,that its not allowed to do while you are there.I had a dog that used to love rolling in fox shit, after a while I got sick of bathing her every day,so instead started hosing her with the cold water even if I had to defrost the hose first,It took a while but she learnt that rolling in it ment at some time later she would be getting a cold bath and stopped maybe not totally but mostly, any one that thinks a dog ca
  19. farm collie stands in the road watching a car come towards it as it passes its already running to get behind it ,barking its head off,The next car that passes though the driver flings open the door as the collie starts running and it runs straight into it,with a thud and a welp it runs straight back to the farm, tail between its legs.A few days later the car passes. Again collie looks up from its road side bed see's the car coming welps and runs back to the farm tail between its legs. Might not sound very nice but better than the dog that comes running out to chase a car not r
  20. wouldn't be surprised if it worked.
  21. I like a dog with real tight up on there toes never had a dog with those type of feet get damage,You never have to even clip there nails, Dogs your forever clipping nails seem to be the ones that get injured, just what I found.
  22. Lovely to see the old uns and for a dog to be still doing he's job at that age he must have a heart of a lion.
  23. Your dog needed to be 100% with sheep as well, those mountain sheep have a smell on them and jump up out of bits of cover,a "stock broken"" dog could easy make a mistake first time it saw them. From what i seen any way.
