So does any one have the size for the holes in the ladder and do you need to have wire hanging down across the length of the ladder to stop them seeing a way out thanks.

After Vin's Food/diet Thread. What About Condtioning
weasle replied to Tiny 7's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Read the first page then got bored. Work them hard as I can during season, then just mooch them round in the summer, do a bit to harden them of before the season starts. Never noticed much difference to how they work,if they've been kept lean and fit,or allowed to lie around in the sun getting fat for the summer.Just have to start the road work a bit earlier. Also a dog with a good nose will keep its self in good shape just by giving it a hour or two to mooch around. -
See that's the thing with these forums, folk get to know other folk who get to know others..... Ends up one big place where no one is willing to tell the truth about what they hear incase they upset a 'friend' so they have to use other usernames as a disguise to get digs in. Better staying anonymous and letting every c**t know the truth . Very true, I wouldn't bother coming on if I couldn't come on and tell some one when there talking bull, there again I'd do it even if it was a friend ,if I had any:(

Top Line Coursing Dog Men..question About Dog Diets.
weasle replied to a topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
All of the above except i use gain,Garlic, milk eggs, scraps, fat ,tins of oily fish, what evers around, good varied diet.Easy as that really, saves reading vets journals and worrying about carbs and shit..Do many lads give a starve day once a week? garlic is toxic to dogs[/quote. So is cod liver oil if you feed to much, personally only seen good points from feeding garlica couple a times a week.untill one of mine drops dead from eating a clove of garlic I will keep feeding it,keeping down parasites and good coat. -
Who worries you then weasel? LOL,The only thing I have to worry about is my own dogs...Remember reading on here"he must be a good dog there was a photo of him in************ book"

Top Line Coursing Dog Men..question About Dog Diets.
weasle replied to a topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I miss days out but not as often as once a week it helps give them a good appetite Fussy eaters are a pain, sometimes its hard to keep good eaters in condition when there under the cosh never mind a fussy eater. Carnivores in captivity are given a starve day or 2 a week ment to be good for them, but they wouldn't get much work.I can never bring myself to do it though, but like to keep them guessing somedays just give them a handful. Agree about the fussy ness,Found the worst thing to do is be feeding pups 2/3 times a day as soon as there big enough I give them one meal a day,and they will -

Do you not find it a bit rich, black tar like scuts?

Thanks skycat,Will take you up on that during the season,Would like to see it,Not the type who likes to see a dog fail, not the type to say I saw something I didn't good or bad, even with my own dogs. When my own started skipping around I blamed the kc blood. Then started to find threads like the ones put up.The photos always showing the dogs staying well out of harms way, even the ones put up by the owners are the same,Maybe your right and there trained that way . Any way we don't always see eye to eye,but at least you don't take it to seriously, unlike a lot of the lads on here..

I like airedales, but have seen a good fewAmerican links like that to many to discredit . Untill I saw a game one single ,not working in a pack,I wouldn't believe it.
-
If that's something you think might be passed on to lurchers bred like mine ,I would def stay with the redline:)

Didn't think redlines got as hairy as that? http://www.mogollonrimairedales.com/redline_new.html

How do you know they have been ruined unless you tried a kc,? Someone who used to run Airedale rescue in the UK told me that she knew of a couple of KC dogs that were being used in the shooting field: as pickers up, I think. The sad fact is that virtually all show and pet Airedales in this country have had any instinct stifled: not what their owners want at all The few that I have met have been very lacking in anything resembling fire of any sort. I would love to hear of some KC Dales working, but have failed so far in my attempts ... but the Aussies use them so there must be a spark of

I'd say not ,even from what I've read in America lads question there gameness, they are used to hunt in packs holding things at bay, don't know if they would be stupid enough to stick there heads down a hole and get a mouthful of teeth twice, just my take though.

Ha For once I was in the right place at the right time, will never have another so knew..Still had to get up every morning and go to work to pay for it. Who's most dedicated the lads supplementing there dole with a bit of meat,Or the working lads that despite having to get up early every morning to go to work,do there best by there dogs getting them out 3-4 nights a week then getting up half hour early to gut the rabbits. I had very little work last winter ferreted 3-5 days a week lamped when ever it was worth it,and I tell you it was fantastic, life how it should be. But It didn't mean I was

My car had 6000 miles when I brought it,now it's done144567,do you think I could try my dog on a rabbit now or should I carry on having her chase the car?
-
so how can blood hounds follow scent that's maybe a fortnight old for miles and miles? sometimes for days as in a few cases in the USA. i do believe there's a lot we don't understand about scent or the way a dog uses it senses just to throw one in on scent how deep can a search and rescue dog locate using scent ?. That's a good one....but would they ever be searching air tight compacted soil,or building rubble avalanche ect with air pockets?
-
Yes put your ear to ground you can hear a ferret scratching at a rabbit. Here's a experiment for you bury some rabbit guts a foot under ground(I will give you some if you want) If your dogs are like mine they will dig them straight out as will foxes,Next day bury them 3 foot they won't even scrape the soil neither will the foxes, because they cannot smell them.
