I wonder how much a cheap pair of second hand skis are? Be a piece of piss to screw them to a bit of 12mm ply raised on some lengths of2x4 for ground clearence. I imagine that would fly! f**k it, that's a project for next year!

I haven't lit a traditional open fire in a few years now. There was a bit of a skill to drawing, you could have it going like a bitch and think it was right then pull the pan/paper away and with a poof of smoke it all went dead and choked the house out! lol. Leave it too long and the paper gradually turned black and sponaneously erupts into flame as if the whole thing had been soaked in petrol! I always used to come in and ask my parents if we needed a fire lighting, loved doing it when a kid. That and spending my mornings with my grandpa choping sticks in the autumn, feck me he could hand

We used to do that too mate, drawing the fire! Worked fine until you overdid it and the paper caught fire! Amateur! Use ya coalpan rested on the fire place's metalwork, the pressure from draw will hold the paper in place and draw like feck hands free! These modern multfuel burners are killing off the old skills. No idea if ya still can but you used to be able to scrunch up paper real tight and it would burn slower like wood and light the coal from that?

Dog Owners Home Veterinary Handbook
Born Hunter replied to mikeball's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Seems quite extensive, I'm printing a pdf now. The short section on raw feeding is a bit retarded though. -
Ratattack got what I meant. I didn't mean to be driving them like in Europe with shots at fallow in full flight. Just pushing them gently towards positioned rifles, bit of skill in it from the beaters. Fair enough response though. Still, might work for the lad that started the thread.

It's interesting though from a technical point of view. Of all the kicks and kick combos there are, all I saw being thrown was the two most basic kicks, front and round. And mostly off the same legs......

We just don't have great amounts of snow these days so when we do many aren't prepared. The media mae it sound worse than it is, nobody I know gives a feck. Wont stop me going to work tomorrow but I'm sure a couple will blag it. Using gears to break can be dangerous to I'll add, going from 3rd to 2nd for a bend on friday my front end was skidding, at least with the brakes you can respond quicker imo. It's just a matter of experience. On the plus side, places where you would usually have to do a 3pt turn can just handbrake it in half the space instead, lol.

Them pics of ya pups suprise me reddawn, didn't expect them to look quite so smart, I expected something real mongrely. That red and merle is an interesting looking animal. Probably be bang on, time will tell. I can certainly see the weakness that a straight terrier has when bushing and the advantage of having a bigger and stronger dog that more easily cover rough ground. I'm more inclined to go springer x terrier but I can't imagine the end result being a great deal different in terms of success in the field.

Unfortunately some people don't have that option, I know I don't. I favour letting them out fairly regular and they don't shit in the runs then.

I believe ya, lucky to make it back to the safety of your home mate! First your telling me we have had an earthquake and now blizzards!?

Takeing Pups On Farm Land For First Time ?
Born Hunter replied to SKYGOD's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Sometimes I think people worry too much about pups. Like if they chase then that's it they're f****d! They're not as fragile as a lot think, just get out there with them and let them investigate the world. they'll be the better for it. But no need to be lamping with them untill later in the year. -
Neil Bromiley right? Forwarded it round work, should have a couple hundred coming in very soon! Just f*****g with ya, before anyone actually starts voting for Neil Bromiley.

Is it really that big a deal? My dogs NEED to jump so they jump. It's a lot less dangerous than running but they also need to do that. If someone is scared of having dogs that jump or don't want them to then so be it. They're happy, I'm happy, every f****r is happy!

Born Hunter replied to the night hunter's topic in General Talk
Well, now it's been made public I can hazard a guess that there will be a couple more vigilante gangs mooching about. -
that one shook our house Aye I'm sure it shook ours to, infact I'm sure it shook the entire midlands but when my head hits the pillow I'm dead to the world! Quite a bit of damage to peoples houses with that one If I remember, f**k knows what goes on when I'm asleep.

I'm not far from L'boro, didn't feel a thing. They said even for the UK it was just a little en. There was a big one back in 2007/2008 (can't remember which) when I was living there, slept right through that to.

Trophy Skins.
Born Hunter replied to baldockbanks courser's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
Tried rabbits once and got pissed off with tearing the skin while trying to scrape it clean. Got a mate that does the odd dear skin, he's currently doing a muntjack buck and always uses tradition brain tanning. I want to try tanning a nice winter fox skin but tbh I'd prob just end up sending a nice one to a proper tannery. Would love a decent tanned coyote skin as well. -
Jesus f*****g christ............. what a great use of tax payers money. The old boy maybe wants to invest in a better air rifle! Never heard of a 2.2 caliber............

every week at my forge and workshop(updated)
Born Hunter replied to midnight's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
Looks very nice matt. I can't help but imagine something very similar with a 8" blade for the lads that dog boar and big bucks/stags! -
Why shouldn't they if you have a habit of kicking shit out of them. I don't think any case can be built upon hearsay but if you are a prolific. Convicted wife beater. Then fair play If you are a convicted wife beater then it'll be on your record! Why ask the consent of past/current partners? Unless we want to base an application on the say so of potentially biased people? It just opens the doors to spitefull wankers preventing grant. It's a stupid idea only being talked about to apease the anti gun lobby. It wont save a single life but WILL prevent some unfortunates from being grant

That last stag had some pretty amazing head gear! Something about the delicate roe buck though, beautiful creatures.
-
Snap! Not exactly a blizzard but deffo very light snow.
-
Why should a past /current partner have any say at all? If you haven't be prosecuted in a British court then any accusations are meaningless surely. More bullshit legislation imo. Maybe they should ask ya next door neighbour if your a nice chap as well? Perhaps the milkman's opinion should also be sought after?
